I left school at the age of 17, with a few GCE's under my belt, to seek employment in the medical profession. Fortunately for me, my hunt met with success. To secure a post of ones choice then, was much easier than it would be today, offering those same school certificates. - (anyone who is familiar with GCEs will certainly understand the comparative ease of obtaining employment.) Those were the days when 'in-training' was all the vogue, and therefore making it possible to continue education at a higher level whilst earning a reasonable salary.
