For my sins I studied Computer science at Loughborough university from 1993 to 1997. My degree course was a sandwich course, which involved a year out in industry between my second and final years. I was the only member out of my close friends who did and year out and the university didn't really give that much assistance to the people who wanted to do the placement year. My course, and ultimately my degree, got me into my first job and the Loughborough name is a good one with employers but the information that I learnt on my course hasn't been that much use in the IT Industry. The lecturers and course was very good but I learnt more practical knowledge in my year out than in the three years of the course. Although that sounds that I am been negative to Loughborough University, I am not, and my course was decent enough, just not in the real world!
