Advantages: Excellent facilities, good location within the city and the student bar is right next door.

Disadvantages: Poor organisation by the lecturers, administration and teaching staff.

Thumbs up???

Computing is a subject where the right resources, teaching ability and organisation by the University are paramount. Unfortunately, although the University has one of the largest and best funded computer departments in the area, and certainly one of the top departments in the country, it lacks organisation and the skills to effectively teach this subject.

The lecturers lack the ability to organise themselves to the satisfaction of the students. Always missing lectures because of absense and other commitments. It sometimes feels (Certainly with the senior lecturers who are experts in their field) that research and outside projects come before the needs of the students.

However, some of the modules were very well organised, others were a complete farse. The final year project (being the most important of them all) was lead by a lecturer who couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery.

All in all, the facilities are excellent, and the school of computing is commited to improving teaching standards, maybe in the year that I have been gone things have improved.
