Advantages: Excellent teaching, Great facilities, Wonderful city

Disadvantages: Dire scarf

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Bristol has one of the most foul scarf colours schemes I've seen, involving a horrible mustardy yellow colour in two stripes.

Other than that though, I can't think of anything else bad to say. The teaching is superb, with almost all lecturers covering their subjects in both an interesting and informative manner.

I've now got a job as an economic consultant after gaining an MSc from Bristol, and can honestly say that the degree has been priceless to me. My BSc was also from Bristol, and everything applies to both courses. They are run by people who are interested, by people who want their students to do well, and by people who know how to get results.

The course itself assumes no prior knowledge of economics. In the first year, students do basic courses in microeconomics and macroeconomics, as well as a few courses from around the University, and more general discussion courses.

The second year starts to get more technical, with the more mathematically-able progressing onto econometrics and technical models of economic theories. These are then built upon in the third year, and the third year courses include several distinct variations on the work previously covered - looking at organisational structure in micro, for example, or looking at time series in econometrics.

The main problem with this is that by the time you get to the third year, you're wanting to do too much!

I really, really can't fault them.
