Advantages: Good reputation, wonderful new building

Disadvantages: Not as good as they may portray

Management science has been a course at UMIST for 100 years and has established itself as a respected field of study. It has now changed its name to just management, a course which you can take with or without a specialism.

Those of you who are lucky enough to get in (the current requirements are A B B, it used to be much lower but demand has pushed it up), I am sure you will be impressed with the new dedicated building which I was lucky enough to go to.

Most lectures and seminars are based in this building or over the road in the lecture theatre which is shared with the University of Manachester. If you have friends in Manachester Uni, don't worry. The Manchester School of Management (MSM) building is close to Man Uni and Man Met Uni than UMIST!

If you like swimming then the new olymipic swimming pool is being built next door. The course itself is wide and varied with the greatest range in the first year before you get to choose. Not all of the modules are for everyone, but they are a good test of your determination.

The school is proud of its high rating from the inspections and although not always what you would expect, I feel that this university may be better than most.
