Trademark In The Night Garden Wheelie Bag
by chrisandmark I bought Hollie this In The Night Garden bag last year, we were travelling from Birmingham to Wales and my main reason for purchasing it was to put her some bits and pieces in to keep her entertained on the journey. I'm not sure why it's classed as a suitcase as you wouldn't get much in there if you were going on holiday, it's what ... you'd probably call an overnight bag if you were talking about an adults case. It's a small case with a zip on the top and two pockets on the sides; these pockets will hold a small toy or book but unfortunately aren't big enough for much else. Actually, when we went away I popped my travel sized make-up bag in one of the pockets to keep it safe and out of the way! I think these pockets would be more suitable for children younger and older than Hollie - younger as they can be used for storing dummies and other 'bits', older children will fill them with the crap they accumulate on the average day away from home. There are no extra pockets inside the bag, but considering it's designed for young children I don't think this would be particularly useful anyway. This bag is made from a very tough material and also has a securely attached piping running around all the edges. This will help to protect the body of the case from knocks and scrapes as it's being used and will also ensure it keeps its shape even when stuffed full of cuddly toys. The tough fabric has proved itself over the eighteen months and there is hardly a mark on it, in fact it's in such good nick that I'm planning to list it on Ebay later as I bought Hollie a new wheeled bag yesterday. The wheels work brilliantly and they're secured well to the bottom of the case. Hollie loves pulling up the retractable handle and pulling the case behind her, the fact that the wheels move so smoothly is excellent as there is absolutely no wobbling or careering to one side or the other while she's pulling it along. The handle is equally smooth to use, Hollie was able to do it all on her own from the very first time she had the case and can also lock the handle into place without having to ask for help. I like the fact that the whole top of the retractable handle has a moulded plastic grip as this allows her to position her fingers comfortably and in the correct place to ensure the case can be pulled along smoothly. There's a second handle on the top of the case, this is a basic fabric handle and can be used when the case isn't particularly heavy or full. The height of the case is fine for Hollie to carry it rather than wheeling it around - but then again wheeling the case around is so much more fun! The decoration on the case is ideal for any small In The Night Garden fan as the main picture shows all the main characters, the actual colours of the case also point towards the colours you'd expect to see when watching the programme on tele. Over time a small area of Upsy Daisys dress has worn away on the main picture, this isn't a problem and unless you'd seen the design before you'd never know it was missing. This is the only 'problem' (which isn't really a problem) with the case and is to be expected I suppose as Hollie isn't very careful when throwing her bags around! I paid £16 for this case/bag and it's definitely been money well spent as not only has she used it several times since we went away, but also on days out and if she goes to my mums for the weekend. It'll hold a couple of outfits with shoes and a toy, but personally we tend to use it mainly for transporting her cuddlies and all the bumph that comes with them. *Please note, I've been mooching around online this morning and it looks like the design of this case may have changed slightly. The one I saw today looked like a slightly taller version without any pockets; the one I've written about would probably be more suitable for very small children due to the height, but older children may appreciate the more slimmed down (sans pockets) version.* Read the complete review |

by i_am_joy While arranging a weekend away last year I realised that my (then) two year old granddaughter had actually never been away from home for any length of time before. I decided to treat her to this In the Night Garden 'suitcase' after she spotted her two big sisters' packing their cases and became quite upset at having to share her ... father's luggage. If I remember correctly I paid £12.99 for this case, although it is currently retailing for around the £15 mark online. I personally believe it to be well worth the money as a toddler's bag; the overall size of it would make it quite unsuitable for a long stay away from home, although for shorter trips it has proved ideal. The bag itself is nothing more than a fairly large rucksack, with the shoulder straps having been removed and a telescopic handle attached in their place. The physical design of it is perfect for a small child as the zip fastening is a long one, meaning the bag will open out to a wide degree for packing, and the actual length of it is fairly stunted which makes for easier carrying/pulling for my granddaughter. Admittedly it was (and still is) a little too long for her to be able to carry it without canting herself on one side, but to be completely fair to the product it does claim to be suitable only for children aged three and above. By far the best way for a little girl or boy to transport this case is to pull out the extending handle and wheel it around. This has proved to be much more successful as the wheels are nicely positioned at the very back of the case so it naturally falls back into a comfortable position for your child. One downside I found is that if an adult attempts to pull it along the case will tend to slalom from one wheel to the other, this has not proved to be a problem as it will never hold enough to make it too heavy to actually pick up by the handle. Having said that, this durable little case will hold far more than you imagine it to. It cannot be overfilled by any huge amount due to the zip being rather rigid, however this was excellent when it came to explaining to Hollie how much she was allowed to take with her on our trip - if the case closed then fine, if it didn't then things would have to be taken out. I myself have used this case with my granddaughter on many occasions, it transports her favourite toys to my house each weekend and obviously has been used for her clothing when she stays away from home. The upright shape means you will probably need to iron any clothes after using this to carry them, but this is a very small price to pay for a contented travelling toddler. The two pockets on the sides of the case are fairly spacious, we haven't actually ever found a use for these unfortunately but I would estimate they would hold a pack of Top Trumps cards or something of a similar size. These pockets have a long zip which allows them to be opened quite widely; these zips are far more smooth to operate than the very long one which opens and closes the actual bag, which is strange in my opinion as the angles the zip has to travel around are much sharper. Another thing worth mentioning here is the fact that the telescopic handle is extremely smooth to pull up and down, my granddaughter has always managed to do it herself and I'm also impressed by the way the handle moves in one piece (as opposed to one side pulling out quicker than the other, as happens regularly with my adult sized suitcase). The case is made of tough rucksack material, this has a wipe clean finish which has allowed the body of the case to be kept looking in excellent condition considering the very regular use it gets. I have noticed parts of the In the Night Garden design have begun to fade, although frankly the longevity of this rather cheap looking transfer has pleased me greatly overall. No stitching or piping has come loose so the actual manufacture of the case is obviously higher quality than that of the Igglepiggle and Upsy Daisy print. I cannot recommend this small suitcase highly enough; it is extremely reasonably priced, brought a smile to my granddaughter's face and has proved to be a very useful addition to my small collection of luggage. Trademark In The Night Garden Wheelie Bag
by karalouk When my almost 2 year old, die hard In The Night Garden fan set her eyes on this in the shops just after christmas she whipped it off the shelf with a big smile on her face and wheeled away into the sunset with it. When we tried to get it from her she screamed the place down..I really didn't have much of a choice but to buy it for ... her! The main colour of this luggage bag is red and blue which means it's completley unisex and has pictures of all the main In The Night Garden characters - Uppsy Daisy, Iggle Piggle and Makka Pakka. The bag has 2 pockets on the side and a spacious main compartment. We went on a weekend break and I managed to fit most of her things into it, however we are going for a week long holiday next month and I in no way expect to fit a weeks worth in there so I will use it as hand luggage and stuff it with toys for the flight. It has 2 wheels, extendable plastic blue handle and is very lightweight which makes it really easy for the little ones to wheel around with them (which they'll really enjoy too). There is also a yellow handle on top of the bag for adults to carry the bag easily. You can pick this bag up for around £15-£20 which I think is reasonable. I brought mine for around £10 as it was during the january sales. I have tried to think of some disadvantages for this product but I can't really think of any! The bag seems safe - no small parts, sharp bits etc. Obviously the zip could be a hazzard but a bag without a zip really wouldn't be much of a bag!! Safety regulations say the bag is not suitable for 0-3 years so just keep an eye on your child with it. The material is easy to wipe down if it gets dirty or spilt on and seems as though it just might stand the test of time... Happy Holidays! Read the complete review |
