I never really go into Argos. I'm not sure why, as I always have a good experience there. Perhaps it's because I'm still a student and as yet I don't need many of the sort of household items Argos sells. Still, one day in the middle of January I ended up there, frantically searching for a small suitcase to take on my trip to Marrakech (which was in three days!). My trusty black leather suitcase is slightly too large to comply with Ryanair's strict hand luggage requirements, and I'd heard so many horror stories that I wasn't prepared to risk it. I'd already checked out Debenhams, John Lewis and BHS and found nothing, but popped into Argos simply because I was passing. Flicking through the pages of the catalogue, I came across this product, but unfortunately it was sold out, so I bought a cheap black suitcase instead. However, on getting it home I measured it and found that it was too big - the measurements given in the catalogue don't take into account handles or wheels. I looked online and found it was possible to reserve this set at the larger store in town. The next morning I popped in, returned the black case no problem, and collected this one. I was very pleased as I got it in the sale for £10.99 (normal price £19.99). This was even cheaper than the black case, and for two items a fantastic price! Both items are red with white polka dots. This is a really attractive standout design and is different from the usual black. It reminds me of the Fifties retro look. One disadvantage is that the colour attracts more dirt. I found this out the morning of my trip when I inadvertently dropped the trolley case onto the muddy floor of the tram! I was able to clean the polyester material fairly easily with soap and water but do be aware these items will require more effort to keep clean. **Flight Bag** Size: (H)12, (W)31, (D)25 cm / (H)4.7, (W)12.2, (D)9.8 in This item is designed to go over the handle of the trolley case for ease of carrying. It also has a shoulder strap which is reinforced at the shoulder, and a handle on top. I was unable to use this on my trip as Ryanair only allows one piece of hand luggage; however if you are travelling with a more lenient airline, taking the trolley case as checked baggage, or using a train, bus or car then this bag is very handy. It's ideal for all those essentials you need to be able to reach easily, and I'm looking forward to using it when I go home for the weekend in February. **Trolley Case** Size (H)41, (W)30, (D)18 cm / (H)16, (W)12, (D)7 in Weight 2.75kg Capacity 22 litres As you can see this case easily complies with Ryanair's hand luggage requirements, and presumably those of most if not all other airlines (but please check first). Having said that it is not as big as it *might* be, so if you are the sort of person who packs to within an inch of your life every time you go away then you might be better off with a case that is the maximum size permitted. It was adequate for my needs, however. The case is lined with black material and has two quick-release straps for holding your luggage (mainly clothes) in place. There is also a zipped compartment inside the lid, which I used for my passport, travel guide and Ryanair boarding passes. One minor gripe with this case is that there is no such compartment on the outside of the case. I had to open the case fully each time I wanted to retrieve my documents, which was slightly annoying. At no point before or during my trip did I weigh my case, however it *felt* very light and I had no problem carrying it (there are two handles, one on the top and one to the side, as well as the black pull-along handle) even though I'm really not strong! Unlike my leather case which always feels very heavy, this one felt as if it had been made to be as light as possible and I wasn't worried that I would go over the weight limit if my bag was weighed (I think the smaller size of the bag helped too). Despite the bag's cheap price, I felt that it was sturdy and well-made and I never felt that it was about to break! Having said that, I've seen how airlines chuck about checked-in bags and I'm not 100% certain I would want to check in this bag just in case it broke - I'm probably just being over-cautious however. The bag pulls along easily and the wheels are smooth. The zips on the outside of the case fit together so that there is space to lock the case if you wish (lock not provided). I didn't bother with this though as I was using the case as hand luggage and it was with me at all times. I'm really impressed with this set - I bought it on an impulse as I really needed a case and I couldn't have found a better one if I'd searched for weeks. It's attractive, functional and easy to use, exactly what I needed, and for the price, absolutely fantastic. At the time of writing the Dots Trolley Case and Flight Bag is still on the Argos website for the cheaper price of £10.99. It is not in stock for home delivery but if you're lucky there may be one in your local store to reserve.
