Argos Wheeled Holdall
Advantages: Practical, On Wheels, Large. Handles/Strap
Disadvantages: Tips when heavy
The Argos Value wheeled holdall I am reviewing was bought two years ago and therefore is not current stock.
However it is an excellent item and as it has been replaced by a very similar item, I feel the review is still
I bought my holdall prior to a weekend away and with no bags suitable I was on a mission to find the cheapest bag possible. Argos has an extensive range of baggage options in their catalogues, but I immediately flipped to the cheapest option possible.
The bag I bought was on offer at £9.99 from £19.99 and was one of the Value range. They had a pinkish one and a bluish one.
The holdall itself has a capacity of approximately 64 litres, and is made from polyester which has a repeated flower print in pink, purple, white and red. The "flower" print looks more like a line with basic shaped petals on it alternating in the colours mentioned and repeated across the entire bag. The background to this print is black as are the holdall handles, which are a good size and easy to grab. The bag has a detachable shoulder strap which can be adjusted in length but has a padded shoulder support which again can be moved up and down the strap to ensure maximum comfort.
The handles are covered in a soft plastic (leather effect) and are stitched on well, they show no sign of wear at all and have taken some pretty heavy loads. Likewise the shoulder strap is still sound after all this time.
The internal section of the holdall is lined and the lining is zipped over the handle poles, which are fitted into a plastic section at either end. At the handle end, the handle is tucked into a curved plastic base. This base stops it from bending or getting damaged. It extends from the holdall by 16cm which makes the entire product approx. 100cm in length when being pulled along.
The other end of the holdall also has a plastic base which holds the wheels. This is grooved and extends up the length so that when laid down it doesn't damage the fabric of the bag at all. The wheels have never been anything but fully functioning, although the bag does tip sometimes, mainly due to the size of it in comparison to the wheels.
One the handle is pushed back in it slots into the metal frame which forms the structure of the bag. The zipped up inside fabric allows you to fill the holdall with stuff without ever touching the frame/handle.
There is plenty of storage here, with both and internal and external zipped pocket. The zip for the whole bag extends fully from one side to the other leaving loads of room to manoeuvre and get big items in and out if necessary.
So far I have very minimal wear and tear on this product which is amazing as I'm not the most delicate of people when travelling. I pretty much throw my luggage around unless I have something breakable in it.
The price was amazing and even at full price is exceptional for such a well-made bag. The only downside if the pattern. It's quite bold and not really my style but as I don't use it every day I'm not fussed. It clearly stands out so if travelling by plane and putting it through the baggage handlers you will clearly see it on the conveyor belt. Equally it will fit in the boot of any normal size car with no problems at all.
If you do travel and you want to lock you bag up you will have to buy additional padlocks, however, the zips have a hole so you can fasten a padlock between the two of them and secure the contents on the inside.
The best bit about this bag, is that whilst it is a good size, measuring 45cm at full height, 60cm in length and 30cm in width, it squishes down and can be stored quite compactly. Obviously the length cannot change as it has a metal frame, but it can be flattened from the middle and I tend to place it on the shelf in my wardrobe, with no problems putting other stuff on top of it.
Like I said, this specific item is no longer stocked in Argos but they are their value equivalent and from what I can tell it is just a more modern design called Multi-Print Wheeled Holdall and is retailing at £24.99 at the moment.
Summary: Excellent value holdall for all your holiday stuff
