Tripp Express Compact Suitcase
Advantages: Good quality, vivid colour, expansion possible, very good value on sale, luggage tag window.
Disadvantages: More expensive than you can find elsewhere. No small pockets.
Having had a fab experience with Tripp when I bought my Maisie Moo medium wheeled duffle last year (see seperate review for details) I decided to go online in the christmas sales and see if I could find one for my other half.
Now he is a VERY light packer based on lots of travel experience and therefore I knew that he would not need a large suitcase by any stretch of the imagination. I looked at this 'compact' version in red and figured it was just about perfect for his needs. Knowing the quality of Tripp items and because this was reduced from a full price of £79 to £33 I went for it and I am glad I did so because for what we need it for it is perfect.
Quite basic in style, it has no smaller pockets, just the one main section (which does have an expansion zip to allow you a little more room if needs be). On the back of the main body there is a sewn in luggage tag with window, which is a nice feature and means that you can quickly ascertain that it is indeed your case. Mine is a deep red colour, not the raspberry style shown above. Currently on the website they also have this in black.
The suitcase has a pull out handle which fits neatly back into the frame when not being used and two wheels which are smooth running and make the luggage easy to handle and pull around. The zips have loops to enable them to be padlocked together and a small padlock and two keys come with the bag as standard.
The dimensions of this case are as follows: H57cm, W36cm, D20cm. It holds around 41 litres and is too big to be taken into the cabin as hand luggage but it around half the size of the large suitcases you see people with. This may be quite small for some people but believe me, with efficient packing it is plenty big enough and my husband is intending to use it for a two week holiday later this year and is convinced he can survive with this luggage space.
As with all Tripp products, this item comes with a 5 year guarantee which is, in my opinion, an added bonus. However, the 600 denier material it is made from seems to be very robust and will not, in fact succomb to damage during the rigours of travel. I also have a large suitcase from the Tripp range which I have been using for around 4 years now and it still looks like new despite lots of usage. I do believe Tripp are a quality brand and fantastic value when you can find the products on sale.
As an aside, Tripp sell their range exclusively via Debanhams in the uk but they also have their own website (just google Tripp) which usually seems to offer lower prices than the department store. Their own website also delivers for free across the UK so it is well worth checking out. Whilst you can pick up luggage cheaper than this in places like TK Maxx, this is great quality and a decent investment, especially if you travel a lot.
Summary: Great value and quality from this established luggage brand.
