Tripp Navy Express Sunshine Flower Suitcase
Advantages: Great value, reliable and good quality
Disadvantages: It is ugly!!!!
Last summer I decided that the next suitcase we bought was going to be something reasonably priced, something with the capacity to carry the full 23kg for a flight and something that we could easily spot rolling around the luggage conveyor belt without fear that it wasn't ours.
This Tripp Navy Express Medium Suitcase is flower coloured, its dark navy with pink and blue flower patterning all over it. The case looks garish and to me ugly, but that is really why I wanted it, as alongside my wife's own bright pink suitcase we always know exactly when our cases are rolling around. Also it is so ugly you'd spot somebody trying to nick it, although it is also so ugly it would take a brave person to try to steal it!!!
In the past we've bought fashion cases that lost their looks quickly and were either awkward, hard to carry or simply poor quality, this ugly duckling really excels in two of the three areas and has no looks to lose.
The case is the same as others in the Tripp range, heavy with a good size inside, it also comes with a Five year guarantee which I think is excellent and shows real confidence by Tripp in their products. They are right to feel confident, this is a soft luggage item, but is hard wearing and has done us proud when we've used it recently.
The case weighs over 4kg without any luggage so it is fairly heavy as your losing almost a quarter of your weight limit for luggage simply through the case, but it has a strong metallic ribbing to ensure it is sturdy and can carry luggage without risk of collapse, therefore it is a necessary evil.
The case has wheels at the bottom and a trolley handle which extends and it is reasonably reliable, although at 6ft 1, I do find it difficult sometimes having to bend down slightly to pull it. I think the handle is fairly decent and it doesn't stick like some others I have used in the past.
The case is 67cm tall and 41cm wide with 26cm depth, it has a 58 litre capacity, it is a reasonable sized case that isn't overwhelming and doesn't take up too much space in your car, like some of the large cases that can still only take 23 kilograms. Zips come round the outside of the case and a lock and key are also provided for added security. The zip is reliable and easy to use and the case is made of polyester, so far it has survived two long haul flights easily enough and the polyester hasn't really had any damage, unlike the pink case which is hard plastic and has lots of dents.
The case is easily identifiable and small enough to pick up whilst being large enough to carry 23kg, I rate this highly and wish they would stop saying how much the case should retail for as it clearly isn't worth more than £100, but is definitely worth its current £32 and even the £40 I paid. The Tripp range are convenient and reliable, they are available in Debenhams around the UK and offer good value and comfort, i'd recommend this, its ugly, but I wanted ugly, reliable and easy to spot over fashion, as I was sick of losing cases or struggling to identify them on arrival at airports!!!
We bought the suitcase for £40 in Debenhams, the label said the suitcase was reduced from £135 but having checked whilst writing this review, this is simply something they record on the cases as its currently possible to buy the case on the Tripp website for £32 although you may find there is also a delivery charge of some kind.

If this case is too ugly for you, there is also a plain black or navy version that is of similar quality but doesn't look like a darts players shirt!!
