Advantages: Fun for children, sturdy, entertaining, lots of ways to use the Trunki
Disadvantages: none
The Trunki is a suitcase designed for children. There are many different styles and colours each with their own name and features. The one my daughter has is the green one called Towgo.
The Towgo is fantastic. I wanted something to help keep my daughter entertained whilst travelling to Florida. It is really meant for hand luggage and meets the current hand luggage restrictions for the UK. It's made of very strong plastic and is lighter than you would think.
The Trunki is suitable for age 3-6yrs. It has wheels on the bottom so a child can use it as a sit and ride toy, the child can hold on to the sticky up ears at the front. It has a long strap that can be used to put it over your shoulder or unclip it at one end and you can pull your child along. There is also a small carry handle.
There is loads of room inside the Trunki to store all your items you need to entertain your child on the plane. The Towgo has internal straps to keep everything in place and a pouch to store smaller items. Not all Trunki's have these features but to me they were essential and worth paying extra for.
I paid about £35 for mine, however I think you can get them for about £30 now. My daughter absolutely loves her Trunki and I have to say I love it too!
It made our journey to Florida so much easier. There were no moans and groans from my daughter at the airport while we were queueing at check-in. She was happy whizzing around us on her Trunki and she made friends with two other children who were in the queue who also had Trunki's. It made everyone in the queue smile as they watched them. I have lost count of the number of people who asked me where I got the Trunki. My son who was almost 8yrs at the time played with it too.
On the plane the Trunki easily fitted into the overhead compartments. We were able to access it easily each time we had to get it down to get things for my daughter. Thankfully I didn't hit anyone on the head with it as the plastic is hard and it would've hurt.
On arrival at Florida again the Trunki was put to good use by my kids. I think it helped keep their minds off how tired they really were. It was useful for something for them just to sit on when they needed a rest.
The Trunki is not restricted to just use as hand luggage. You can take it absolutely anywhere. We found it came in really handy when we went to Water Parks as we could store all the wet towels inside. My daughter loved all the attention she got from people passing us, they just couldn't help but watch in amazement.
Tip - I got my daughter to decorate her Trunki with stickers so we new it was hers in case anyone else had the same one as her and we could identify it easily.
Just updating to add that you can now buy the Trunki from Argos, I spotted it in their new catalogue.
Summary: To me the Trunki is an essential item for travelling abroad with young children.
