We holiday quite a few times a year and I was sick of using suitcases to throw toys into for when we go away. Yes holidays are fun and there is always lots to do but the girls still like to take a few toys and books for while we are away to give them something to do while we are getting ready, or to take to the pool etc. We first bought the Trunki ride on suitcases in early 2007 so they had only really been out for a few months. I remember wheeling my eldest daughter who was only a toddler at the time, through Manchester airport and people were literally stopping and pointing! They are of course, much more popular now and you see them regularly in airports, but despite owning the Trunki's for so long, I didn't actually realise until summer last year that they had branched out and released other products. The Trunki Toy Box has been a life saver and we love it just as much as we loved the Trunki suitcases.
At only £15 I think they are excellent value and we actually have a few now at home which are used every day. They are stackable and actually fit really well in a square Ikea storage solution, which I think is meant to house wicker baskets or tubs, but the Trunki Toy Boxes make fun and colourful alternatives for a child's bedroom. I can't actually believe the amount of use they have had for the small price.
The toy box does resemble the suitcase pretty similarly, and is made from a very durable and tough plastic. It comes in the colour options of pink or blue. We have four now, 2 pink and 2 blue which are stacked in the cube storage system, but only the pink ones travel with us (the girls choice not mine!). To be honest, although the colours are obviously aimed at girls and boys, they have splashes of other colours on them anyway, for example the pink one has green wheels, so I don't think it matters 'too' much. Each toy box has a lid on which is secure but easy enough for a child to remove. The lid actually forms a locking base to sit the toy box on so it doesn't move around on the wheels when they are trying to get items out. The toy box can also be turned upside down and can also be used as a ride on! So so versatile, it's fun, practical and durable. It can also pull along (much like a train) other Trunki toy boxes as there is a fastening mechanism on the back. The toy box alone has brought hours of entertainment. It was a life saver one rainy day in France - as we had driven to France we had brought two of the toy boxes as we had room to spare, and they spent much of the afternoon pulling one another along on the boxes! It also doubles as a rocking cradle although this part isn't suitable for children and is better suited to Ted or Dolly.
The 25 litre capacity is more than enough to store some decent sized toys in and it fits like a glove in the foot car well (measuring 30cm x 40cm x 30cm), so on long trips they can help themselves to toys when breaks permit them to be able to remove their seatbelt.
I cannot fault this toy box one bit and most importantly for mum and dad, this 4 in 1 toy box makes tidying up FUN!
After Christmas we were left with so many toys that needed a home. As my daughter is 10 months her toys are either large so go in the corner of her playroom or small things like Megablocks. I didn't want a wooden toybox as I was worried when she was older she would catch her fingers and normal plastic storage boxes looked boring. Browsing on Amazon I came across these toyboxes for £14, I ordered two a blue one and a pink one.
When the box arrived it was a little smaller than I expected it measures 40cm x 30cm x 30cm. The boxes are made of really strong plastic. The pink one is a really vibrant pink with a purple lid and bright green wheels and handles. The blue box is a bright blue with a bright green lid and orange handles and wheels.
The box comes with a piece of cardboard wrapped around it which describes it as 'world's first ride-on, push-around, travelling toy box allows you to take toys and games with you wherever you go'
The first thing I did was take the lid off to fill it with toys, my daughter is still only small but she likes to put things in the box herself and she also enjoys pulling them back out! The box is shaped so that your toddler can ride on it, this means that the bottom is wider than the top. The top of the box also has 'grooves' which accomodate your childs legs making it easy for them to push themselves along. I managed to fill the box with a lot of toys, it is like a Tardis it holds a lot more than it looks like it would. Once the box is full you simply clip on the lid which is really easy to do the lid of the box has a handle which makes it easy for mum or dad to move it around the house or take it travelling with you. You can also turn the toybox around so the wheels are on the floor, when it is facing this way your shild can sit on the box and ride along, or you can simply pull the handle on the box to move it along the floor.
The fun thing about these boxes is that they can be clipped together to form a train, this can be done while the box is shut or open as the box is designed to stand on the lid and be pulled along as well as being used closed. The boxes can also be stored on top of each other as they are designed to fit together. The box can also be used as a rocker by placing the box on the lid, which needs to be facing wheels up, your child can then put their doll or teddy in there and rock them to sleep.
This toybox is great value for the money it will grow with your child and is a versitile as their imagination. My daughter does sit on the box to ride it if I push her but she is too small to push herself along but I know she will grow into it. The box is also designed to be ideal for travelling, it fits perfectly in the footwell of your car. When I take my daughter to her nans she loves to take toys with her.
I would highly recommend this box, it is fun and also practical, 5 out of 5 from us!
Having just had my first child nearly six months ago and planning on travelling we soon started looking at toy boxes and other items to keep all our little ones toys together.
This toy box is a part of the Trunki family and features all the things you expect off Trunki. Durability, flexability, adaptability as well as looking child friendly and being practical too.
These toy boxes can be connected to form a train, which is great if you have more than one child and need to keep them enterained as well as teaching them the skill of tidying up. They also stack quite nicely in a corner if you plan to use them around the home.
I personally found these toy boxes a little on the small side, however as I've stated I'm a new parent thus still processing skills such as which toys to pack and which I won't need whilst on holiday. If on the other hand you are a seasoned packer you will know which toys to pack and will find these really really helpful.
I've been checking various airline policies and from what I gather these boxes cannot be taken on as hand luggage, so would need to be checked in with suitcases and so on. Although these boxes durable I wouldn't wish to risk getting them damaged (even if they cost under £15.00 on Amazon). I suppose it's a trial and error as with all things.
I'm not sure if there is any airlines that would allow these on as hand luggage for children or maybe they would charge for the option?
I would have liked to have seen a larger box for the RRP. That could be just me as I've mentioned before. Maybe travelling light is the mission with these boxes.
Nice compact design, look nice and are durable so can handle knocks.
Having recently been converted to the Trunki suitcase and been extremely impressed by the case I decided to have a look at what other products the company had to offer.
Being a mum of two I am inundated with toys and books but finding practical, fun and not ugly storage which is reasonably priced is a challenge indeed. So when a discovered the travel toy box I immediately ordered one.
What is it?
The toy box comes in pink or Blue and the colours are very vibrant it is essentionally a plastic toy box however they are designed to clip together and can be ridden on as a train or singly as a ride on they stack up together as well so great for storing in the corner.
The trunki toy box is designed so that it fits comfortably in the foot well of a car or in the boot I have one in the boot of my car which contains the must have options for travelling with children change of clothes colouring books, ball and wellies and I am really pleased with it as this takes up less space than the bags did and keeps everything from falling all over the boot.
We have three of these boxes in the house they colour co-ordinate with the girls bedroom and because the have wheels on they are easy for the children to take from one room to another they also have a carry handle making it easy for adults to carry around and I like the fact that they have a lid so you cannot see the junk inside!
Cost and Stockist
You can buy these direct from Trunki at wwwtrunki.co.uk at a cost of £19.99 or £50.00 for three or Amazon at £10.99 or free if you use Dooyoo points!!
I have to say I think these are excellent that do not take up too much space in the car ideal for when we visit family there is no longer a debate on whether they can take this toy or that toy if it fits in the box they can take it! The boxes look stylish store well and have far more uses than Trunki say a brilliant box
I really like trunki products, trunki is a brand name now and was first discovered on the dragons den tv program a few years ago. I seen the invention on tv and thought the products were great, this was before i had my girls. I since have bought loads of the trunki products and always keep my eyes on the newer products coming out because they are strong, robust , will last forever, i also feel they are inexpensive , practical and funky.
The trunki travel toy box has been out for almost a year now however i have only had the travel toy boxes for six months as the trunki products were on sale half price at amazon uk.
I paid 12.99 from amazon uk with free postage but these do normally retail at £20.00. Trunki toy boxes so far only come in two colours, pink with purple lid and blue with green lid. I have one of each colour for my girls.
The idea of the trunki travel toy box is its small, it has a distinctive shaped bottom on it, this is so the box can be stored on the foot well of the car and compact in the boot.
The box is small and measures around 14 inches wide and 10 inches tall. Although the box is not very big it holds a lot of toys, my daughters can fit in their favoured dolls, puzzles, books etc.
We use the boxes for when the girls are visiting grandparents, holidays and every few weeks when they got to their dads over night.
The box is made from strong solid plastic and even the most destructive child will not be able to brake it.
The colours are bright and really stand out. The lids are easy to clip on and don't come loose, although they are very strong my daughters can both open and close the clips with ease witch are attached to the side of the boxes and not the lids but they do clip onto the lid to hold it in place.
I like the rubber handle on the lid it makes the box easy to carry by hand, the lid also has four hard plastic wheels on it, one wheel on each corner.
The box bottom has a curved shape on it this is so the child can sit on the box upside down with the lid on and use as a ride on toy, this is fun and my daughters use the boxes like this even when full of toys. Trunki toy boxes come with clips so you can clip both toy boxes together when using them as a ride on this creates a train, i love this idea however only good if you have a few boxes. When the toy box is open it can sit on top of the lid that makes the box into a rocking dolls cot, a lovely idea but my girls have never used them as a bed for their dolls perhaps its because the have proper dolls cots.
The ideas are endless and really good for younger children helps bring out the imagination. Even when the boxes are full of toys trunki toy boxes are extreamly lightweight.
The boxes are still like new, but to give them a clean a damp cloth is all that's needed.
I am very happy with the trunki travel toy boxes and have had a lot of use out of them so far. I plan to buy another two shortly when amazon uk has them on sale again, however these are very much worth every penny of the rrp but i just like a bargain. You can even buy trunki stickers to personalise the boxes to the childs taste from trunki.co.uk i have not bought them though but thought they were a fab idea.
I would highly recommend trunki travel toy boxes, ideal for pre school children and would suit toddlers too. Keeps toys neat , tidy and great for space saving.
