Fake Bake Luxurious Golden Bronze Self Tanning Mousse
by FayeJay
I'm Naturally very pale, I don't even tan in the sun.. which I don't recommend anyway.
I love the tanned look, So a few years ago I turned to self tanning products. After trying many products.. Some good.. Some really bad, I now see myself as an experienced self tanner with a list of firm fave self tanning products.
I ... often get asked which products I use and how I use them, so I've decided to review my favourites on DooYoo and hopefully help anyone out who is looking for a good self tan!
I've picked Fake Bake Self tan Mousse to review first as its something I use all the time and it's the easiest to use. The bottle does seem quite small but a little really goes a long way! I use it a lot and bottle lasts me ages. Also its is available in some larger Boots stores so its great to collect your points!
It Develops to lovely golden tan colour, not oompa loompa at all! 1 / 2 Applications is enough for me as I'm so pale, but if you want a darker colour apply once a day until you reach your target colour.
Its also great to prolong an existing tan by applying once a week.
It drys very quickly and only has a faint smell not like some others so its perfect to apply and leave on in the day ready for the evening!
This is how I apply my Fake Bake Mousse :
1) I have VERY dry skin, so I make sure to exfoliate really well before I apply fake tan. Concentrating on Elbows, Knees and ankles.
2) I recommend using the Fake Bake Smoothie Oil first, I spray it all over and lightly rub it in. Clip Back your hair and if you need to apply some nail varnish to your nails. Bare Nails will soak up the tan and you will have orange brown finger nails. Urgh!
3) Give the Mousse a really good shake, and apply to your hands, mitts or gloves. I always use a mitt. I find they buff the tan in at the same time and I never get streaks.
4) Be careful when you squirt the tan out, it doubles in size when it hit's the mitt and little goes a long way. Firstly apply to your legs, apply using wiping movements, as if you are wiping down a kitchen worktop, do this quickly as the tan also drys quickly. Once the leg area is covered use circular movements to buff the tan in. You can see the colour even out.
5) Without applying more tan to the mitt skim over your feet, ankles and knees. There will still be product on the mitt it just doesn't feel as wet as before. Nothing worse than orange ankles!
6) Follow the same procedure on your front, back and arms. Maybe get your partner to do your back? Remember only skim over those hands!
7) Apply a really small amount of mousse to the mitt, and apply in circular movements on the face. Even when the mitt feels dry just rub it over your face and it will still be tanning. This will ensure its even.
8) Your done! Leave to dry for 10/15mins before you get dressed. Avoid wearing white. Also keep some wet wipes handy incase you touch yourself while dressing just wipe your palms after.
9) You'll see the tan develop throughout the day. Shower off that evening. Or apply before you go to bed and wash off in the morning.
Tips : Remove any trace of Deodrant before tanning as it might go green in your armpits! Read the complete review |

Fake Bake Instant Self Tanning Spray
by Fiona415
Fake bake is a very popular fake tan brand that is amongst some of the best and can often be used in salons but can be bought in highstreet stores too.
Before you tan you must exfoliate and moisturise, adding Extra moisturiser to elbows, knees and ankles. To apply the tan it's always better to get someone else to apply it but you ... can manage it yourself apart from the back.
The can should be held 30cm away from the body at all areas and the salon way to apply tan is as follows:
1. Stand legs shoulder width apart and with your arms held out so you are making a T shape but then drop your forearms so your hands are pointed to the floor and your now making a box shape with your arms. ( obviously this cannot be done if applying yourself)
2. Spray the tan 30cm away from you UP and DOWN your shins on both legs then up and down both thighs. Then the same to your tummy, but when you get to your chest and breasts spray from side to side raising yOur head up to look at the ceiling when spraying your neck. This is the front of your body done.
3. For your face do It in three up and down storks one down the side, up the middle, then down the other side of the face again.
4. The back is similar to the front, up and down the legs and up and down the back.
5. Next turn to the side and pretend you are taking one big step with the leg that ISNT facing the person spraying and hold both arms straight out infront of you. Do the arm facing nearest the sprayer by spraying straight along the arm, spray one long stroke down the side of your tummy and down the side of the leg and then spray down the side of the leg that is stepping forward so you are spraying the INSIDE of this leg then repeat on the other side.
6. hold your hands out then spread your fingers like a claw and do one light spray across the fingers. During all this try not to stop an start spraying whilst the spray is directed at the skin as it will cause patches, stop spraying by ending at a place off the body e.g if doing the legs finished in a fast motion pointing away from the leg then stop.
A LITTLE TIP is to get an old towel or something to stand on even in the bath as some spray falls to the floor and if you step in it the bottom Of your feet will turn black!
This is best done in the shower cubicle as the spray is so fine it gets EVERYWHERE!
The tan itself goes on nicely an is already coloured so you can see where you have been but will also develope deeper and darker over a few hours. It will take about 15mins to dry before you can get dressed but it's best to wear loose clothes and no bra as bras can rub it off easily.
The colour comes out a lovely golden brown but can be made darker by adding more layers.
The colour will last about a week before patches will show mainly on the neck, between breasts, around the groin and between the creases in your arms. When this happens if you use a body scrub the tan should come off quite easy, ready to be re applied.
Dependig on how many layers you use at once the tan can last for about 4 or 5 fully body applications.
Overall I love the colour of the tan and I think it's good how it comes off when it needs to as nothing looks worse than a patchy tan that takes ages to stub off.
The only down sides to the product are the price can vary from about £14 to £20 and the spay nozle can often have a build up of product and cause some large brown blobs to be sprayed out mid-tan. And it also gets everywhere so make sure you do it in the shower! Read the complete review |

Fake Bake Original Self Tanning Lotion
by dinosaur9211
Being a self confessed fake tan addict, I couldn't help but try every product in the shop which gives my skin a darker tone. I hate being pale!
Fake Bake is one of the best known tanning brands, selling products to salons aswell as ones for you to use at home. I originally tried Fake Bake when I went to my friends salon ... whilst she was training for her spray tanning certificate (if that is what you call it when your qualified to tan?). She used Fake Bake in the spray form which is produced to be used in salons (and I could swear its better than the one you use at home!). Whilst doing my tan, I was speaking to her and her tutor about how the tan works, which is by working with your skins melanin to give you a natural looking glow as if you'd been on holiday.
If you don't know what melanin is, it is basically the thing which determines your skins colour. When the melanin is changed, it gives you a darker tan - probably not the best description but you can see where I am coming from.
After getting this gorgeous tan at the salon, I loved the result so much I couldn't help but research on the internet to find out where I could buy some either online or in a store. I wasn't surprised when the price for a bottle of the tan was around £25-£30, but luckily my friend worked in the local department store, so when they were on sale at £20 she got me a bottle.
PACKAGING:
The bottle I brought is 'Original Self Tanning Lotion' which is in a 170ml bottle. The bottle is an oval shape with a slight curve, its dark brown and has the flip top lid at the bottom. Fake Bakes signature logo is on the front with all information needed on the back. I quite like how the bottle comes in a box along with some latex gloves. I find these to be a good way to apply tan, but I do prefer a mitt sometimes. The glove is good when you'd like the tan to be applied quite thick and dark.
THE TAN:
The tan itself comes out in a very thick dark brown, which is the colour it stays on your skin just more even. I like that it comes out dark because it means you know exactly where the streaks are and where on your body needs doing. I tend to give myself two layers (because I'm a little obsessed with the stuff).
When it comes to scent - this one is no different from the rest. It smells biscuit-y and luckily this doesn't linger on your skin very long. If the scent stayed on the skin after washing, I probably wouldn't like it because it is off putting.
HOW TO USE:
To apply the tan you need to first exfoliate 12-24 hours before, moisturise and make sure you don't shave within 12 hours of applying the tan - especially your legs! The tan will just sit in the dots where your hair previously was which is never a good look.
Put on your gloves and squeeze a tiny amount onto your hand and smooth it onto your skin in circular motions making sure you don't leave streaks or patches. I find it quite easy to use the gloves because you can smooth the tan easier, with a mitt its quite hard to get into the little areas like between your fingers and toes, around your ankle etc.
Once you've applied the tan to your desired area (I only do my top half or arms/chest in winter because my legs are never out), you need to allow it to dry before dressing. Once its dried, you can dress yourself and wait 12 hours or more before washing your tan. The quicker you wash it, the less time it has to darken. During your bath/shower after the 12 hours, you will notice the water going a little brown and your skin fading a tiny bit. This is down to the excess tan coming off your skin, all the tan which could make you darker has sunk in and done its job!
To keep the tan gorgeous you simply need to exfoliate, tan and moisturize regularly. If you don't it will become patchy and streaky quickly.
Tip: use a hairdryer quickly over your body to dry faster without it going tacky.
VERDICT:
In my opinion, this is one of the best tanning products and I can see why its so highly priced. I suppose you are partly paying for the brand name but I do love this tan. It darkens nicely on the skin and gives a lovely, even tan. I like that the scent of biscuit doesn't stay on your skin, this could be partly down to me moisturizing once I'm out the shower but I'm not sure.
The only thing I will say is don't apply tan before a night out or on a rainy day. Before washing it off the tan will run and you will become a streaky mess. That is about the only downside to the product really. I had an experience on a night out where a drink got accidentally poured down my leg, it wasn't attractive walking around with streaky legs all night - especially when it was in the pub before going to the club! Lucky the toilet attendant had black tights or I'd of been miserable until I got home!
I would say price in the 'disadvantage' category but for such a good tanning product you've got to pay a lot. Nothing good is cheap nowadays. Read the complete review |
