Green People SPF15 Organic Sun Lotion
by shangfastic
Green People sells natural Organic cosmetic and skincare products. Their products are all free from certain nasties present in most beauty products that can be incredibly bad for you. They're a very ethical company and their products are always top notch. Their Sun Lotions (which have won a load of awards) are no exception. ...
The price
The SPF15 Organic Sun Lotion with Tan Accelerator 200ml costs £17.95 on the Green People website. Now this may seem a little more pricey than other sun creams, but it's definitely worth it. I got this cheap when it was on offer with the Green People After Sun. If you're not sure, there are trial sizes available for much less that you can try out before buying a bigger tube. Green People products tend to go further anyway - you don't have to put as much on for it to be effective so it lasts longer than conventional sun lotion.
Putting it on
Green People sun lotion comes in a little tube which you just squeeze the lotion out of. Some people might prefer sprays, but this worked for me. The only criticism I have of their sun lotion is that it does require a bit more rubbing in than some sun lotions, though a lot of sun lotions are like that anyway. A previous reviewer said that it didn't get absorbed by her skin and sat on top, but I think she was probably putting too much on. I use a little and rub it in until it's not visible anymore and haven't found it to offer any less protection than just slapping a load on and looking like an albino! It's very non greasy and I don't feel like I have to wash my hands after applying. The scent of the product is more to my taste than conventional sun creams. Green People tells you to reapply the sun lotion every 2 hours or after swimming, though I've found it lasts longer.
Effectiveness
This is the best suncream I've ever tried. I used to suffer from prickly heat, which for those of you who are lucky enough not to know what it is, is a horrible itchy rash some people get after being out in the sun. But I've never had it since I started using this. I haven't really burnt whilst wearing it and it moisturises my skin so find that my skin doesn't peel after being out in the sun for a long time. Not that I care about getting tanned, but I've noticed that I tan more evenly with this sun lotion. It makes my skin feel and look moisturised. The sun lotion is water resistant and I've found it to be effective even whilst spending a lot of time swimming in the sea.
Chemicals
The best thing (apart from its effectiveness) about Green People sun lotion is that it's not full of nasty cancer causing chemicals and skin irritants like most sun lotions are. It even has cancer fighting antioxidants in it! It is made without Parabens, Lanolin, phthalates, artificial perfumes, petrochemicals and colourants. I would recommend this sun lotion for children as it's even more important that products used on their skin are free from harsh chemicals with their skin being more absorbent at a young age. Green People also have a sun lotion especially for children and babies.
I've tried other 'natural' and organic sun lotions but in terms of effectiveness I would say this one is the best. Look forward to some more Green People reviews soon! Read the complete review |

Green People After Sun Lotion
by juicy_lucy
Green people after sun
On a recent holiday I decided to try out an after sun lotion which I had never tried before and decided that this would be one of the products I would trial. I liked the fact that the packaging is recyclable and also, because I was using it on Little Miss, I like that the company claims to use only the ... purest, natural and organic ingredients.
The product contains organic aloe vera, Candula and Mint, and whilst I know very little about the healing properties of different ingredients, I do know that these will be soothing
**What/who is it for?**
This is marketed as a natural after sun lotion for all skin types which can also be used as a cool, fresh body lotion. It is also apparently suitable for people who may be prone to eczema and psoriasis and also people with sensitive skin. It is also suitable for vegans and vegetarians
**What does it do?**
The product promises to:
*Reduce peeling and help the healing processes in the skin
*Have a cooling effect on sun-heated skin
*Prolong the tan by retaining moisture in dehydrated skin
**Product and Packaging...**
The product comes in a 200ml plastic squeezable tube with a screw on/off lid. When I open the lid to get some of the product out, I do have to give it quite a squeeze to get it out, and when it does start to come out of the bottle, it does so quite slowly. The sun lotion itself is quite thick although not overly creamy but when I rub it into the skin, it does feel really cooling and after a day in the sun it really does cool my skin down. It is absorbed easily into the skin, leaving no sticky residue and the cooling feeling does last for a considerable length of time. It has a strong mint smell when first applied which once absorbed by the skin isn't overpowering but does give more of a feeling of coolness. I like the mint smell, as it smells fresh and light and just right for freshness after being in the sun.
**Using it...**
It can be used on the face and body all year round, but as an after sun should be applied liberally after exposure to the sun. This we did, and found that a little bit of the product does go along way and really cools the skin.
**Price and Availability...**
I bought mine online for £9.99. A full list of the products can be found on the website www.greenpeople.co.uk.
**Verdict...**
I like this product and would certainly buy it again for future holidays. It was fine for my skin as well as for Little Miss and seemed to reduce any redness or soreness. We don't tend to peel but regardless of this, this product did help to keep our skin really moisturised. We continued to use it on our return to England and didn't suffer from drying out skin as sometimes happens once out of the sun and not using sun creams.
A highly recommended after sun product for the whole family.

Green People Day Solution SPF 15
by OscarsWilderness
Green People's Day Solution SPF15 Skin Defence Moisturiser is 85% certified organic and very gentle on the skin. The ingredients list is quite satisfactory, with only one item really catching my attention in a negative way, and that's phenoxyethanol. This is a preservative, which when I contacted Green People, they assured me they only ... use in very small amounts in order to prolong the life of the product. While extremists such as myself might prefer it weren't in there at all, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. It's not the worst thing they could have put in there and many "natural" and organic products include it as a way to increase shelf-life.
As I have said in previous reviews, natural products do seem to have quite minimalist packaging, and Green People's are no exception. The plain white tube with just a splash of blue suggests that there's very little to worry about in terms of its contents. I would have to agree. The main ingredients this company obviously wants us to look at, and the ones it has chosen to mention on the front of the bottle, are aloe vera, green tea and chamomile. The front of the bottle also tells us: "Prevent premature ageing. All skin types". Whilst ingredients such as hemp oil and jojoba oil must go some way towards nourishing the skin, I imagine that this reference to the prevention of premature ageing is largely down to the fact that this product includes sun protection, albeit only SPF15. Certainly, for me, this is adequate in the middle of winter, although, being fair-skinned, I would choose something with a higher level of protection in summer.
The moisturiser itself actually feels surprisingly dry when you apply it, and I'm fairly sure that this is also down to the fact it includes sun protection. It does mean that you find yourself using a little more than you perhaps expect, which isn't a terribly good thing since this little 50ml bottle costs £13.99 if you buy it directly from the manufacturer, although you can usually find it cheaper elsewhere. Green People themselves charge postage on top of this, so I would recommend buying from an independent site or even a local health store. Despite the price, this product is very convenient when travelling as the plastic container is lightweight and compact, unlike many of the weighty glass jars favoured by some manufacturers.
I have to say that, although I like this product, it doesn't feel as moisturising as you might hope. Although it does not leave my skin feeling dry, I think it might benefit from being slightly more hydrating. I used to use this product several years ago, when my skin was more oily, and it did seem to suit it better then, although I have recently decided buy it again. I certainly wouldn't say it would cause your skin to become drier, but unless you have naturally oily skin, you might want something more moisturising underneath it. Even so, I find that make-up goes on quite well on top of this product and you don't have to wait long at all for it to soak in.
Despite having absurdly sensitive skin, I have not reacted badly to this cream as yet. So far, so good. One criticism I have regarding the packaging is that, due to the type of pump dispenser and the fact that the bottle is totally opaque, it's almost impossible to tell how much is left. On the plus side, the pump is very easy to control, so you can dispense as much or as little as you need, but it also means that one morning you could press it and find that it's empty! Perhaps this is a (not-so-) clever marketing ploy to get us all buying a replacement nice and early.
All in all, a good quality product, and suitable for vegans, too, but perhaps not such a good choice for more mature skin. Read the complete review |
