Solait Lotion
by chrisheels Last year I found myself working in West Africa (Gabon) for 3 months. Knowing that this would require a large amount of sun protection cream, I headed to the superdrug nearest to my office and found the Solait sun lotion as part of a 3 for 2 deal and bought 3 large bottles. ===The Product=== The Solait sun lotion ... comes in a large 500ml red bottle. The bottle is fairly flexible, so easy to squeeze out the lotion. The lid clips off easily meaning if packing it in luggage it should be put inside a plastic bag to avoid any spillage all over your clothes, ===The Lotion=== I found it very watery when squeezed onto your hand, yet it still didn't absorb into the skin very well. The lotion does cover quite a large area and in 3 months I used about one and a half bottles, but this was mostly just on my head (having a lack of hair means that the top of my head burns first) and to be honest not bothering a lot of the time. On hot sunny days around 30 degrees I found that it did stop me buring when out in the sun on the beach. It claims to be water resistant, but when cycling or running I found sweat made it pour off me. Also after swimming in the pool or sea, I couldn't see any residual lotion remaining. The lotion doesn't really have a scent and isn't as greasy as some I have used. I would consider it a cheap simple lotion which does the job, but I would recommend going for something with a better consistency that rubs in better. The bottles I bought were SPF 15, but it comes in a range from SPF 8-50. I don;t actually burn that easily and once I have a tan only bother on really hot days when I will be outside a lot, so for me SPF 15 is usually fine. For very fair skin the higher SPF values would be better. ===The testing/claims on the bottle=== I usually don;t repeat whatts on the bottle in my reviews, as this can easily be read if you are looking to buy it, however for a sun cream I think the following are important points: The Sun lotion helps with the following: * helps protect against DNA damage * helps protect against premature effects of the sun * help combat against free radicals It also claims to help protect against insect bites. I found this to be completley untrue in Africa! The product has been dermatologically tested and is EU compliant ===Price=== I paid about £8.99 each for two bottles and recieved a 3rd free, however they are currently BOGOF (buy one get one free) at superdrug for £8.99 for the 500ml bottle so a bit of a BOGOF bargain. ===Summary=== It does the job, bt I'd recommend spending the extra for something less runny that absorbs into the skin better and has more water resistance. Solait Lotion
by juicy_lucy Solait sun cream SPF 15 I had never before bought and used the sun creams from Superdrug but when going on a recent holiday decided to give them a go, influenced in no small part by the reasonable prices. WHAT IS IT? The sun lotion is formulated with a combination of photostable sunscreens to protect ... against UVA and UVB rays. The product contains Aquarich which will help to keep skin soft and supple when exposed to the sun The product has been dermatologically tested and is EU compliant It will apparantly: * help protect against DNA damage * help protect against premature effects of the sun * Protect against insect bites * help conbat against free radicals With all of these promises, it seems it will provide as much protection as some of the "bigger" and more expensive brands. PRODUCT AND PACKAGING... The sun lotion states on the front of the bottle that it is SPF 15 but when I read the back of the bottle, medium protection is SPF 15-25, which I think is enough protection for my skin when abroad. the sun lotion comes packaged in a red plastic bottle with all of the instructions and information on the back of the bottle. It has a flip up to open flip down to close lid and the lotion is then dispensed through a small hole once the bottle is opened. When I open the bottle and dispense some of the lotion it is not an especially thick lotion which immediately I like as some lotions are for me, overly thick and take an age to be absorbed by my skin.Like most sun products, I like the smell of this one; it reminds me of the summer and whilst not a very tropical smell, it is definitely pleasantly perfumed and summery. USING THE LOTION... To ensure the skin has sufficient protection, the lotion should be applied liberally all over the body and allowed to absorb and dry for 20 minutes before sun exposure. It should be reapplied generously throughout the day and especially after swimming and towel drying since bathing and showering will remove the product. PRICE AND AVAILABILITY... The lotion I have is Medium protection, SPF 15. It is also available in low (SPF 6-10), High (SPF 30-50) and very high (SPF 50+) It is available online at www.superdrug.co.uk and also in stores, and costs less than a tenner for 200ml which is very reasonable especially when combined with the bogof offer VERDICT... The sun lotion is easily absorbed and fortunately doesn't require too much rubbing into my skin for it to be fully absorbed. I like the fact that because it is easily absorbed I am not left with bit of white cream sitting on my body, and also am not standing getting agitated in the heat because it refuses to budge. It smells nice and the product has proved to be suitable for children, as it has been used by Little Miss and caused no adverse reactions. I am not sure about the insect repellent which is apparently in the lotion since we have still been bitten but this could have been at times of the day or night when not using the lotion. Regular use of the product has ensured that we have not suffered any burning and our skin has been left moisturised and so thankfully no peeling. Given the cheap price and effectiveness of the product I would recommend it and will certainly be buying it again. Thanks for reading daniela xx Read the complete review |

Solait Sun Oil Spray Silky Texture Spf6
by juicy_lucy Solait SPF 6 oil I was recently due to go on holiday and needed lotions and potions. Tempted by the reasonable prices, I decided to give some of the Superdurg products a go. I always like to use and oil on holiday especially during the last few days so given that this also contains some sun protection, albeit ... relatively low, I decided it would be a good idea. WHAT IS IT? The sun oil is formulated with a combination of photostable sunscreens to protect against UVA and UVB rays. It contains Shea butter and coconut oil to help combat the drying effects of the sun and promises to leave skin moisturised. The sun oil is also apparently water resistant and non greasy. The product has been dermatologically tested and is EU compliant PRODUCT AND PACKAGING... The oil comes in a plastic 200ml bottle which is brown and has a pull off lid which when removed shows that the product is dispensed via a pump action spray. All of the information and instructions for use are on the back of the bottle. When i press the spray trigger the oil comes out easily as a fine clear mist although when sprayed at anything but an upright position it seems unable to dispense any of the oil. The oil is nicely perfumed and definitely a small which is reminiscent of summer and hot days. It is, as advertised, non greasy and when I spray onto my body and then rub it in, my hands are fortunately not left feeling all horribly greasy but rather they are almost immediately dry and the oil is absorbed easily into my skin. It still doesn't stop the sand from finding it though! USING THE OIL... before using, the bottle should be shaken thoeorughly and then sprayed liberally all over the body 20 minutes before sun exposure. It should then be reapplied frequently throughout the day especially after swimming and towelling. It is suggested that it is not applied to the skin or to any irritated areas of skin. There are the various warnings about using the product and about sun exposure in general including the fact that young children should not use the product and should be kept out of the sun when it is at its hottest. PRICE AND AVAILABILITY. the sun oil is one of a range of products available online at www.superdrug.co.uk and also in store. It costs under £4 for 200ml of the stuff, so not one of the more expensive products. VERDICT... This oil has lived up to its claims. It is definitely non greasy and is an ideal choice for anyone with a base tan who wants to keep skin moisturised and supple when exposed to the sun. I like the smell of it and the fact that I don't feel like an oil slick is a definite bonus. I am not sure about the claim that it is water resistant although water does seem to sit on top of my skin when in the sea but I don't think any of these types of products can be truly water resistant. The one down side is the fact that it can only dispense the oil in an upright position which makes spraying on legs and such quite tricky. Other than that, a good product at a very reasonable price. thanks for reading Daniela xx Read the complete review |
