A great and very soothing after sun lotion - would recommend.

Garnier are my favourite skincare brand - I have yet to find a product that I don't like and this Ambre Solaire after sun lotion has not disappointed me. It cost me £4.99 in Boots last year although I haven't seen it around in shops recently. It is still available online though in places such as Amazon.

It comes in a simple 250ml plastic bottle with a pale blue background covered with the logo and useful product information such as a product description, directions and ingredients. It has a pump which can be pushed down to get the product out. I really like this aspect as it's quick and convenient to get the product out although the only downside is that it's hard to get the last bit of lotion out when the bottle gets low. You have to unscrew the pump and either use the tube to dig it out or just cut open the bottle which is a shame.

The product is an after sun lotion which is supposed to provide "intensive restoration to sooth dry, sun exposed skin with immediate rehydrating refreshing care, restore suntan and leave the skin with a cooling effect". It should be applied onto the face or body, avoiding eyebrows and hair roots, straight after sun exposure to provide the best protection against UV rays, dry air and heat. To achieve this the ingredients are enriched with a variety of high-tech, innovative products such as cactus extracts like Cactus Nutriflavones which are supposed to moisturise and nourish the skin as well as Vitamin E to restore natural moisture levels and prolong tanning.

So, it certainly sounds impressive...but does it work? Well I think it does. The white-coloured lotion has a milky texture making it very light and very easy to spread over the skin and quick to absorb. It instantly has a cool soothing affect which is great in hot weather and can be made even more effective by leaving the lotion in the fridge. It isn't greasy or sticky and it leaves my skin feeling nice and soft afterwards as well as leaving a light, pleasant scent. It does a brilliant job at moisturising the skin and the area of dry skin which I had on hand has disappeared completely since using this product. I can't really comment on whether or not it prolongs tanning as I am fair skinned and have a tendency to burn rather than tan but it has done an excellent job at keeping my skin healthy and comfortable despite long hours working in the sun.
