I can't remember the last time that I had to buy after sun to use in this country but after the beautiful weather that we've been having, that exactly what I needed to do. After a quick browse, I chose the Garnier Ambre Solaire Aftersun Skin Soother Hydrating Milk
What does the product do?
The product promises to give the skin an intense burst of moisture after sun exposure. It claims that it will leave the skin feeling soothed, cooled and nourished. It promises to restore the skins natural moisture levels using cactus extract and hydrating milk. The end result should be skin that looks restored and refreshed, and that feels soft and smooth. It also contains Aloe Vera to calm, soothe and heal the skin.
How do you use the product?
The product is to be applied to clean and dry skin that has been exposed to the sun. It is to be applied generously and massaged gently into the skin on the body until it has been fully absorbed. It can be reapplied as necessary.
Packaging and Price
The product comes contained within a pale blue plastic bottle which has a blue and white flip top lid. On the front is a picture of a water droplet and some extra information is given on both the front and the back of the bottle. The product costs around £5 for 400ml and it can be bought from stores such as Boots and Superdrug, large supermarkets and also from a range of online websites.
Application and Performance
The product has a really nice summery smell to it which makes it perfect for using on sunny evening. It has a hint of coconut to it and I think it is really lovely. It isn't strong or overpowering but it is definitely there and it makes using the product even more enjoyable. The lotion is pure white in colour and it has a runny consistency that is a little thinner than most lotions. Due to the runny consistency, it does come out quite quickly from the bottle so you need to make sure that you don't squeeze it too hard because you can't put back in what you take out. As long as you are careful though, it is easy to control.
Because of the runny consistency, the lotion is easy to apply to the body. It glides easily over the skin and it is absorbed quickly with minimal massaging. This is ideal because you don't want to take to long rubbing your sore skin. It almost seems to melt into the skin and it doesn't leave any greasiness behind it on your skin. It doesn't have a sticky consistency and it doesn't leave me feeling unclean. It simply leaves a healthy sheen on the skin.
The product leaves the delicious summery aroma on the skin for a while after application. You do need to use quite a bit of this product in order to get the desired results so my bottle isn't going to last me long. The formula is gentle and it hasn't made my skin irritated, even when I've applied it to the burnt bits. The product is light on the skin and it isn't soothes my skin and makes me feel more comfortable. It relieves feelings of tightness and dryness immediately and it cools my skin down nicely. It's even better when stored in the fridge. The product keeps my skin feeling comfortable for quite a few hours, even when it's quite pink from the sun.
All in all, this is a great after sun product which instantly soothes and calms my skin. It has a light formula which is easily absorbed and it hydrates my skin quickly and effectively leaving it feeling soft and smooth and looking healthier. It has a delicious aroma which lingers on the skin and the results are long lasting. If the sun is here to stay then I will happily be repurchasing a bottle of this.
Ambre Solaire After Sun Soother
I cannot go on holiday with a bottle (or two) of after sun lotion, unfortunately I always miss areas of my skin with my sun cream and end up with lobster red patches which need care and attention afterwards.
The Ambre Solaire brand is a well-known and reliable skin care product that has been on the market for many years. The after sun soother lotion is designed to hydrate and cool the skin particularly after being exposed to damaging sunlight, UV rays, dry air and overheating.
One of the chief ingredients in this after sun cream is the naturally derived Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera is rich in vitamins and minerals and is also known for their calming and soothing properties which is a perfect combination for painful and delicate skin.
The bottle is a nice pal blue coloured plastic tub which has a flip open white top which is where the cream is dispensed out of. The bottle has the Garnier branded leaf logo on the front and After Sun written in huge font. The bottle has some basic product info on the front and more detailed instructions and ingredients on the back.
The After Sun cream is the typical white coloured cream that all sun skin care products tend to be. It is quite a thin and runny consistency and reminds me more of a milk than a cream. This is a good consistency because it is so much easier to rub a thin cream into tender skin than a thick and viscous cream which can hurt and irritate it more.
The cream smells nice and very summer holiday like! The scent is very fresh and fragrant and not at all overwhelming. To use the after sun you apply it directly onto clean skin, you can use as little or as much as this after sun cream as you would like depending on the extent of your sunburn and skin irritation. The smell is lovely and remains on your skin during the day. It is not oily or greasy unlike some creams I have used in the past.
As I have mentioned already this is quite a runny cream and so a little goes a long way. I apply this directly to my sunburnt skin and immediately feel relieved and soothed. The cream is cool to the touch which helps to calm the burning sensation and this also hydrates you skin and aids in the healing process. This is meant to hydrated skin for up to twenty four hours, however when I have sunburn I apply it every few hours or whenever I feel that I need it.
Overall I feel that this really does help to rehydrate my skin and help it to recover from sun damage. I can't find fault with it at all and feel it is a very good quality and reliable after sun cream. A 400 ml bottle of this currently costs £5 in Tesco and is available for similar prices in other supermarkets, pharmacies and beauty shops which is good value and will easily last a holiday or two.
I hate getting sun burnt, the pain is horrible and so getting something decent to put on it to help with the pain is always good. This product I used a lot last year when sun burn happened.
I always try to wear sun tan lotion but sometimes I get caught out or I miss a bit and the sun burns my skin very easily. At the time I don't always notice it, it is usually later in the day when the pain begins or my husband will point out that my shoulders are red.
The pain is a horrible burning sensation that can make it difficult to sleep and wearing any clothes against it really uncomfortable. So having something to soothe it is essential really.
I apply this when I know I've burnt myself. It takes the heat away from it and instantly cools it down. I lather it on, I think when you're in pain you can't help but apply as much as you can. It comes out of the bottle easily, it's a little hole but the liquid is not thick so it soon runs out and is easy to apply. It doesn't soak into the skin very quickly which I like as it feels like its helping to cool it down for longer. As well as taking the burning sensation away it also helps to keep your skin moisturised. Sun burn can damage your skin so applying this can help to try to make it as healthy as possible despite the damage. I find if I apply this then my skin is slightly less dry afterwards and doesn't peel as much.
This is a bathroom cabinet must have for those days when you get caught out in the sun and get burnt!
On my recent holiday to Turkey, after sun was a must have and I chose Garnier as one of our selections from a trusted well known brand, and also because of the offer price at the time.
I personally think this product is quite highly priced in most stores.
It can be found for ;
£7.99 from Boots and £7.80 from feelunique.com.
This is also widely available in most stores and I picked mine up from Sainsburys better than half priced at £3! Ok I only went in for some change but I this was well worth the buy and I don't think we could have got through our holiday without it!
£8 for an after sun lotion is rather high considering there are many other cheaper ones available, however looking back I personally think it was worth the price as the effects and soothing of the cream had a great benefit to my skin whilst away.
I have to comment on the bottle as I loved the design! The lid is fantastic, it has a snap lid which is a little longer than the bottle top which makes it easy to open even with very slipper fingers.
The lid is also very strong and I could carry it around with me without the worry of it leaking or coming open.
The bottle is a lovely blue colour giving me the first impression that it is refreshing and cooling and the bottle stands upright securely.
I also liked that the bottle is easy to squeeze and easy to hold securely in your hand even when you are covered in lotion.
Me and my partner got badly sunburnt whilst on a cruise the third day into our holiday, so this after sun was needed desperately and used every night without fail and even throughout the day a lot of the time.
The lotion doesn't need much pressure to come out and easily oozes out simply by holding the bottle upside down, because of this it is very easy to apply 'too much'.
Although, when your skin is burning red rore and you feel like you cant move, 'too much' isn't really a possibility and you just want to get the lotion smothered into your skin as much as possible!
After applying and massaging smoothly into your skin, we found the lotion sinks in rather quickly and doesn't leave any uncomfortable residue on your skin. It doesn't make you feel sticky or oily and we found we could get into bed quite soon after applying at night.
The lotion for me did feel hydrating and very soothing, it was very nice to use and did provide us with some relief to our sun burn pains. We loved it so much we usually applied multiple layers and I did feel without it my skin became dry, firm and very uncomfortable.
The lotion holds a pleasant smell which was a plus for us as the last after sun I chose smelt horrid and by the end of the holiday we were so sick of it!
Also, because of my sun burn I was reluctant to wear perfume so I appreciated the pleasant smell in the lotion.
To us, the lotion smells lightly floral and 'fresh' without smelling feminine and it was a smell we could easily put up with multiple times a day, every day of our holiday.
I believe the lotion did have a beneficial effect to my skin however I cant compare as we both used the lotion. We both peeled a little on our shoulders although I found the lotion helped when this occurred also and when applied it hydrated the peeling areas and encouraged the skin to come away which I liked as it took away my temptations to peel it off myself.
The lotion comes in a 200ml size and we just managed to make it last for our 11 night holiday, however considering we used it a lot throughout the day as well as before bed, and as we did use a generous amount every time the lotion did last a reasonable length of time.
I would definitely recommend this lotion for anybody looking for a decent after sun with great hydrating properties. The price is a little high compared to a few others, but it is worth it and I would use this again.
Thank you for reading, I also post on Ciao
While being abroad recently in 35 degrees I had sun cream with me, and thought that would be enough for me as I almost never burn and have darker skin. Well it must be my age, as this time my skin and my body was not prepared for 35 degrees straight away. So after my first exposure to the sun, my body did feel very hot and in some places red, especially my face. Seeing me like that my sister gave me Garnier Ambre Solaire after sun lotion/milk. I was sceptical about it, but not having any choice decided to give it a go. Well I have to say how pleasantly surprised I was. It felt really good on my skin. It was very easy to apply. Only needed a little amount and it spreads easily. And it did cool my body straight away. I was amazed how nice it felt .It does have a flip lid which makes it so much easier and quicker to use. I did apply three times that afternoon/evening and my redness has disappeared completely. When I got back here I have decided to buy a bottle so I can have it here too, if weather changes. I did managed to buy Garnier Ambre Solaire after sun lotion with aloe vera 400ml in argos for £4.49 (half price at the moment), which was great as 200ml of same product abroad would have cost me around £6.
To me, there is nothing worse than going on holiday, getting burnt , then using a rubbish after sun that barely even soothes the inflammation or the aches and pains that come from the sun. We all fall into the trap of buying a cheap after-sun and thinking they all do the same thing. But I would never look back after buying this one. Its not a gel or a cream it is a milk, so it is very smooth and soothing and works a treat if you keep it in the cool or even in the fridge wherever you fancy!
It is labelled on the front as a skin soother hydrating milk and it does exactly what it says on the tin and I know that from experience. It soothes dry skin in '12 hours' but it works faster than this because as soon as you put it on your skin is benefiting from the moisture you are providing it with. It hydrates for half a day 12 hours and it provides an instant cooling effect.
With this 200ml bottle there is plenty to go around and it should last you the whole holiday, if not a little bit longer! I rate this product 10/10, it does what it it supposed to and more. If you pick the time to buy your toiletries right you can pick this product up on offer for £5.00. However it can be £10.00 when it is peak season. I really recommend this, it is too late after your skin has been ruined and it is something to think about. I would pick this up when you are buying your sun cream for sure. This is the best one on the market, it doesn't go bitty or too runny, just right. Try it out and see.
Thanks for reading!
I have a pale complexion and tend to burn in the sun quite easily. I therefore have to make sure I always have some after sun lotion at hand. I tend to buy whatever is on offer but usually stick to brand name products I know will be good quality. That is why I bought this Garnier Ambre Solaire After Sun lotion.
It comes in a 200ml sized turquoise plastic bottle. It is fitted with a flip style hinged lid which has a large lip and a compression underneath so that you fingertip can slide in and flick it open. Although it feels very secure when closed I would recommend taping up the top if you intend to put this in a suitcase.
The labels on the bottle are printed with an abundance of information which makes the product look very high quality. On the front of the bottle, for instance, the brand call this lotion "soothing" and "hydrating" and say that it will moisturise your skin for 24 hours. They also claim that the "naturally derived Aloe Vera" ingredient helps to create a "cooling effect" and also state that the lotion is dermatologically tested, which means it's tested to make sure it won't irritate skin.
On the back of the bottle even more information is provided to me. This lotion is aimed at all skin types and is suitable for using on skin that feels a bit burned or dry or tight at the end of a sunny day. This lotion, Garnier say, will "nourish" skin and re-hydrate it so that it feels normal again.
Garnier are very proud of the fact that this lotion contains the ingredient Aloe Vera. They boast of the plant's benefits and say that it is a plant that can survive for months without water. They also say how the plant is full of vitamins and minerals and is known for it's soothing qualities. Having looked at the ingredients list as printed on the label I see this product also contains softening Shea Butter and glycerine.
Directions for use state that you should use on clean skin at the end of any exposure to the sun. The lotion is described as being "non-sticky and non-greasy" and is supposed to absorb into the skin instantly.
When I open the lid of the bottle the first thing I notice is the fragrance of the lotion. It is a lovely scented product. I'd describe the fragrance as being slightly fruity but quite mild. It's a hint of orange blossom and kiwi flesh.
The lotion is white and although it looks thick when you squeeze it out once you start rubbing it over your skin you'll see it's quite runny. It almost seems to turn more watery as you rub and does a disappearing act into your skin! It's very easy to work into the skin therefore and it's not like a normal moisturiser that goes into white streaks - this lotion simply vanishes.
The lotion changes the appearance of my skin somewhat. It makes it look a little shinier and healthier. If you have a tan the lotion seems to enhance the golden tones in your skin.
The lotion definitely has a cooling, relaxing and healing sensation when you apply it. This is wonderful if you feel a bit tingly or sore after being outdoors for too long. It's like a cold balm and really takes away any of the sunburn sting. The cold sensation actually lasts a little while too, seeming to remain for a while even after the lotion is fully absorbed. It feels like you've had a cool shower.
The fragrance is very evident on my skin when I use this lotion and I really like the smell. It does smell like a typical summer product but that's why I like it. Even if I'm not on my holiday in some sunny resort I can still use this and imagine I'm there! The fragrance is quite feminine though, so men may not enjoy it as much. The scent does stay on the skin until you wash the lotion off.
I really like this after sun lotion and am enjoying using it often. I have used some thicker lotions in the past and they have felt more luxurious when applying but the end result is basically the same with this Garnier product. I would therefore recommend it to anyone who needs this kind of product.

On my recent family holiday to Cyprus I took lots of sun screen and lots of after-sun. I've been to Cyprus before, and so I know how extremely hot it is, meaning that good skin protection and treatment is of the utmost importance. Before I went I knew I would get through at least one large bottle of after sun (myself, my husband and daughter) so I took two. I bought two large containers (I think 400 ml) from Boots as there was an offer of two for one. I'm not sure now how much I paid, but I think normally the large container is around the £10 mark. I never pay full price as I buy when I consider the offer to be good. After making this purchase and arriving home I found that I'd previously bought two Soltan after suns. This is typical me-as I like a bargain and hunt around, I end up storing things away ready for the holiday and forgetting about them, so some bargain that turned out to be! Still, I gave a bottle to my son and his girlfriend so at least it didn't go to waste.
When packing, I was undecided as to which two after suns to take as I couldn't remember which I preferred, knowing I liked both makes. I decided to take one of each as I thought the Garnier was proabaly a little better but the Soltan contained an insect repellant, if needed. As it turned out, none of us were bitten, and I didn't find there was a problem with mosquitos at this time, or place.
Every evening, on returning to our appartment after an enjoyable day of sunshine, I would take my turn in the shower and then, once dry, liberally apply after sun lotion. I used a little of each, to see which I preferred and... it was the Garnier Ambre Solaire.
I found that the Ambre Solaire spread over the skin very easily, feeling wonderfully smooth. I felt I could feel the moisture going back into my skin and replenishing it. Ambre Solaire claims to rebalance the skin. It felt as if it did.
This after sun lotion dried quickly, slightly quicker than the Soltan, although that wasn't bad either. After a few minutes I was dry enough to dress for dinner and my skin felt soothed.
And I absolutely love the smell of this after sun. It must be the cactus extract but, whatever it is, it certainly smells subtle and refreshing, in my opinion.
As I previously mentioned, I applied this liberally, and yet the bottle still lasted well. Also, although I had had plenty of exposure to the sun, my skin didn't peel. I just noticed on a couple of evenings that the skin on my arms was a little flaky so, I repeated the application of after sun before going to bed and this seemed to do the trick. It is unusual for me not to peel, so I feel that the Ambre Solaire did a good job and I must have put the right amount on. Also, we were all quite sensible in the sun and didn't particularly burn, which must also be a factor. .
Garnier's Ambre Solaire after sun is easy to purchase. It's available in most chemists and supermarkets and also from many online outlets, such as CheapSmells. I only buy when I find a good offer but, during the summer months these offers are abundant.
Garnier Ambre Solaire After Sun is dermatologically tested.
I bought this in the winter sales in Tesco for £0.99 as the bottle was slightly damaged but I believe it retails at around £6.00 for a 200ml bottle.
The bottle itself has a flip top lid which is easier than screwtop when you have a handful of moisturiser...!
The consistency is light and fluid. This makes it really easy to apply to your skin as it does glide over. It also rubs in really well without too much rubbing! It doesn't feel greasy after either.
I've only applied this when I've caught the sun and my skin feels a bit tight rather than burnt and I must admit it is very cooling to the skin. It does proclaim to hydrate the skin which I believe it does as it does relieve some of the tightness, however I tend to reapply after 2-3 hours which probably helps although it states that it will soothe and hydrate for 12 hours...
It has a pleasant smell which does remain on your skin after its been applied...and I have been known to use it as normal moisturiser too!
Ambre Solaire After Sun Soother
I'm one of those people who ever since I've wanted to get a tan (14 years and older) I haven't been able too. So I go and sit out side longing for a tan in my sun cream only to return in several hours later looking like a lobster. So its fair to say that I have tried a fair few after suns in my time.
This particular aftersun is a personal favourite however mainly because it has a nice smell and is very easy to apply. The lotion has no key odour specified on the packaging but does have a very nice smell in my opinion.
Applying the cream is simple as I said above, you simply apply the lotion to the area of skin required and it instantly cools the skin. When you've sat out in the sun all day and then had that horrible after sun shower that burns through your skins further this lotion is an amazing cure. It cools your skin down as soon as you put it on and continues to sooth the skin for up to 12 hours after. I would recommend reapplying the cream daily until the sun burnt area feels more comfortable. However as the cream is a very nice smelling lotion it acts as a moisturiser also. Throughout summer I use it all the time partly because I generally always have sun burn but also because it keeps my skin soft when I have been out in the sun and haven't got burnt (the rare occurrence).
Unlike a lot of other creams this lotion is not sticky or greasy and leaves your skin feeling very soft after use, even long after it is first applied. I highly rate this product because of this as it makes you want to use it more to cool your skin down as it can be done at any time without having to wait for it to dry.
When I purchased this product I did not purchase it with the huge price tag that can be found in stores such as Boots. I picked it up from the supermarket on a seasonal special (these are often available). Alternative to this location I have also seen this product in Home Bargains where again I have purchased the product at a reduced price. So it has been a great bargain purchase for a great aftersun.
I would definitely recommend this product for over the summer it is a great investment for your skin!
Occasionally when we get sun I do like to take in a few rays. I do use sun cream/oil usually as I'm very fair skinned indeed however I'm not always as careful as I should be and don't bother slapping the stuff on if I'm only nipping over the shop or something quickly and thats usually when I get burnt! The sad thing about it though is I never tan and go a lovely golden brown colour I always go beetroot and crispy looking lol!
For the reason that I kept getting burnt I decided to purchase this a couple of weeks ago for the somewhat princely sum of £5.50 (in all good chemists, supermarkets etc). I love the Ambre Solaire suntan oil and buy that regularly and wouldn't want to use anything else other than that so I had high hopes for this product!
200ml light aqua coloured bottle with a matching flip top lid to the top of it concealing a small hole. On the front I'm told it is Garnier Ambre Solaire and that it's After Sun Skin Soothing Hydrating Milk which soothes and rehydrates for 12 hrs with cactus extracts and offers a cooling effect to the skin and is dermalogically tested, On the back of the bottle I'm told a bit about the product and directions for use are given, ingredients are listed, size and the recycle symbol are displayed, contact details for Garnier are given and finally there is a bar-code on there. It looks a functional bottle instilling confidence it may work purely on it's appearance in my opinion and it's easy to use etc.
A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Bottle:
Is Skin Soothing Hydrating Milk Right For Me?
Yes, if your skin is drawn tight after one days exposure to the sun, and has to be hydrated contrary to your usual hydration. Hydrating milk is specially formulated to compensate for imbalance of your skin resulting from exposure to the sun.
How Does It Work?:
Its formula contains a refreshing feel which alleviates your skin instantly and eliminates the feeling of tingles and tightness due to the exposure to the sun. Enriched cactus concentrate acts like a reservoir of hydration for the skin, leaving your skin soft, smoothed and nourished for 12 hrs.
How Do I Use It?:
Apply generously all over the body after exposure to the sun
Non sticky, non greasy
Apply daily to clean skin after sun exposure.
Me Using It:
Well when I read the back of the bottle and all the information I have just shared with you it really did sound like what I needed. When I'm over exposed to the sun my skin feels hot, dry and slightly clammy all at the same time and the tightness my skin feels can just be terrible.
The lotion itself is just that really as in it is a lotion. It's not too thin and does have a decent consistency and blends into the skin immediately with no harsh rubbing required. I find when smoothing this on my hot skin that the hotter my skin is the more my skin drinks it and normally it's fast!
The white glossy lotion has a lovely, light, fresh, unisex smell to it that is just a little bit creamy with a hint of natural sweetness to it and it' probably best described as being a 'green' plant smell and considering this does contain cactus extract you'd expect that. I find the smell of this to be really fresh and light and that smell does delicately linger on the skin for a good couple of hours.
So once its on the skin yes it cools it down immediately. Again not in a harsh way that is freezing and too menthol but it does it very gently and pleasantly and isn't one bit irritating. Skin is left feeling soft, smooth and gently hydrated and one great thing about this is that because it's so fast absorbing and does it job from within the skin you can dress almost immediately and completely forget it's there. It isn't greasy or hard to work in and I defy you to not put some of this on your burnt bits and not for the sheer hell of it rub it everywhere else to just get that nice clean, moisturised feeling skin!
A little of this goes a very long way indeed and it's all round fabulous. I love the cooling effect on my skin this gives and it doesn't just give it for a few seconds but gives it does so gently for a good couple of hours and of course if you want/need to you can reapply it when desired. I feel so fresh and zingy with this on, I smell wonderful and my skin reeps the benefits in the moisturising stakes. It really is worth owning not just because it works so well but because it's a really nice beauty treatment too and great for the whole family!

Once upon a time, in a land not far away, the sun shone of a place called Great Britain. Everyone soaked up the rays and became transfixed with the sport of tennis for two weeks due to something going on a SW19. Nowadays however, this is a time of legends as since then the weather, has simply, been lousy. For those who remember the sun, or have been fortunate enough to go on holiday recently, this little product may be just the ticket for you.
Ambre Solaire's After Sun is the product, which helps soothe the skin after a nasty bout of sunburn, which us Brits are excellent at obtaining. The 200ml bottle comes in a light turquoise-blue plastic container, slightly different to the picture on shown on the product description on the website, but identical in shape.
The product description of the soother states..."This soothing, hydrating milk is specially developed to rebalance skin that has been dehydrated & over heated after sun exposure. Your skin is able to regain it's natural moisture levels and is left soft, supple & hydrated for 12 hours." That sounds delicious and ingenious. It's a slight euphemism for saying those who get burnt do have a saviour from impending agony and flaky skin. Of course, the product is dermatologically tested, and the list of ingredients reads on and on like a large portion of text taken from War & Peace.
But how does it work? Well, the rather complicated formula of ingredients contains a 'soothing agent' to help relieve the agony of sore skin caused by sun exposure. Problems such as prickly heat will also calm down somewhat when this is applied, but it's usually best to take anti-histamines if you're suffering from that. Apparently the after sun is "enriched with cactus extract" which helps lock in the moisture of the cream into the skin. How? Absolutely no idea, but it does. Honest.
You can pick up this product on Amazon for £5.07 at the moment, but I imagine most of us would buy it in Boots or Superdrug, which I believe price it at a similar cost. Products like after-sun, and suncream of course, are never cheap, partly due to the complexity in producing such a cream to help block out dangerous rays from the sun, which end up damaging the skin and could create all sorts of problems for us. I guess you can't put a price on that kind of protection...but if you can, then put some money aside for this little piece of relief!
A couple of weekends ago a heatwave hit Britain and we reached over 30 degrees here in the north west. I was out in the garden for 3 days straight, and after that I was so sunburnt I could not go out. However I did need to go driving somewhere so I put my roof down and burnt myself all over again as I had to drive around for hours.
My skin was bright red, tight and very very sore, so I searched my cupboards from top to bottom and found the ambre solaire aftersun. The family sized pack of 400ml is coloured light blue, a nice and soothing colour. The smell was really nice and reminds me of sun cream, which obviously reminds me of the sunny times I have in the summer.
On sight it looks like any other sun cream or after sun, a white cream but rubs in clear. On application it was painful (only because of my sun burn though ha!) however straight away started to cool and sooth my skin. I started putting it on a couple of times a day, and gradually my severe burn turned into a nice golden tan. However I did start to peel badly on my chest (and I NEVER peel!) so I can only imagine it was because I hadn't applied after sun to that area. I did not peel anywhere else.
This product soothes burns and soaks in well however I would suggest to apply it at night because then it won't stick to your clothes. I would recommend this after sun to anybody, especially those with children and those who want to prevent peeling. The only thing my after sun cannot get rid of is the hideous white lines that have been made by my bikini HA!
So, last weekend was probably one of the hottest of the year so far according to me. I didnt actually realise how hot it was at the time of course so avoiding putting on suntan lotion. However, I later regretted this when I got home, after hours of sunbathing. I noticed my arm was bright red as were my cheeks and nose. I didnt have any after sun at home unfortunately at the time so I was made to live out my daily life in humiliation with a bright red nose.
The first thing I did when I had the time to do so was run into Tesco and get some kind of after sun. The Ambre Solaire one was on offer so I bought it and ran home. The bottle is quite nice a light blue colour and this is relevant as it is a soother. It has a secure top that you snap open and the typical Garnier logo. It is a hydrating milk which to me sounded good because I cant stand these sticky creams for after sun that just dont loose the greasiness.
So, what it aims to do is soothe and rehydrate every 12 hours. It has cactus extract which to me didnt sound very cooling but I was so desperate for the redness to go down. I found it quite useful that on the back of the bottle it has some answered questions. It claims to be non-sticky and non-greasy and to be easily absorbed. It is meant to rebalance the skin that has been dehydrated and over-heated. It all sounded very promising and so I put it to the test.
I would say you only need to put on a little on each section because a small drop seems to easily cover the whole area. It is a cream which is not of a thick consistency and so is easy to rub into the skin. It is very cooling at first and also has a refreshing cucumber like smell. I found it absorbed really quickly and although it took a couple of minutes to properly dry it seemed to cool the areas that were really hot.
So, did it work? Well I applied it twice every day because my skin was REALLY red. After day one my face was back to its usual colour, well of course it was slightly more tanned but no longer did I look stupid with my bright red nose. My arms after a longer period of time maybe 3 days went down a lot and were no longer boiling hot. They are now a deep dark tanned colour and you would never know they had been badly sunburnt.
The bottle recommends that you apply the after sun every day to clean skin but I would say twice a day is probably better for quicker effects.
The after sun contains karate butter and certain plant extracts such as aloe vera and one thing I was really impressed by was the fact that I had no peeling. With most after sun I usually still have to go through the horrible peeling process. With this after sun I didnt have to deal with it at all so the skin was healthy and just turned right into the tan.
The bottle is 200ml in size and should last for quite a long time. I didnt need to use a lot and I got my skin back to normal. I agree on it soothing the skin because it really does and every day you notice the progress. The only thing that some might disagree on is the non-stickiness. At first it does seem really light but on touching the skin I would still say it wasnt completely soft but slightly sticky.
Not being someone who usually uses Garnier products I was really impressed with this product. In the past a lot of my after suns have been really greasy and also they have not seemed to cool down the skin but sting it. I tried using moisturiser on my skin after returning home from the sun but it just doesnt work after sun is definitely what you have to use as it cools down the skin instantly.
I would say this product should be used anytime you are exposing yourself to the sun. A lot of the time when going out in the sun I am unaware of how red I am actually getting so this just helps the skin gain back all of its moisture that was lost. It is dermatologically tested but all ingredients are listed on the back of the bottle so that you can check if you are allergic to any.
So I went and bought my after sun at Tesco which cost £2.99 and I dont think that was too expensive as Garnier is a good brand especially for skin products. Also 200ml is a good size. Im sure this product is available at all good supermarkets or Boots branches.
For more information on Garnier products visit the website at http://www.garnierbeautybar.co.uk/_en/_gb/ . It has all of the sun products listed and it is easy to navigate. Ambre Solaire also has a mini site. It shows how to apply the after sun and information on how it is used and what is included in the product.
This has been a hot summer this year, With an evercreasing need for protection against the suns rays, we now have to be ready with the sun tan milk, or risk the dangers of burning in the sun and worse getting skin cancer.
So, this week like a fool i have been working outside in the heat and forgot to take my sun tan milk with me. Today I came back burning up, red in the face and arms and the heat from the sun is burning in my skin.
Rushing to the supermarket to get something to help cool down, I came across this Ambre soliare after sun soother.
I usually buy the Ambre soliare products, even though they may be a little dearer in price than other brands, i find that the quality is always good. A high UV protection factor isn't something you should haggle over the price at. Nowadays with the ozone going it pays to be protected and today I have just found out how hot the sun can get.
Ambre Solaireafter sun soother is made by Garnier, to me this is one of the best sun tan protection milks on the market. Although it is quite expensive I do think that for protecting your children against the harmful sun rays then every penny is a penny well spent.
I bought two 200ml bottles which were on offer with the buy one get one free advertisement in the supermarket at the cost of £3.50 for the two, which to me is a bargain.
I thought this was a good deal for a top quality brand name.
The bottle is light blue and a calming colour which to me the colour blue says cool, it has a flip up lid for easy dispensing, and has the familiar scent of the sun tan cream which I remember from being a child on holiday.
The liquid inside the bottle is a creamy white colour and this is quickly absorbed when you put it on your skin, unlike other sun tan lotions ambre solaire doesnt make you feel greasy and the cooling effect can be felt almost staight away. The tightness of the burning skin seems to relax and the heat of the sun burn quickly cools, it leaves the ski9n feeling soft and smooth again after the redness of the sun burn.
Having said this you do have to wait a few minutes for it to sink in, laying down on the beach before it has sunk in will result in the sand sticking to your skin and as we all know this can be uncomfortable to say the least.
Ambre solaire works with the skins natural moisture and contains vitamin E which we all know is good for the skin. This hydrates your skin to help it keep feeling soft smooth and not dried out.
To apply the sun tan lotion, squeeze a little onto the palm of your hand and rub into the areas which has be exposed to the sun, dont worry about using too much of this stuff as it quickly absorbs.
Its also dermatological tested and is safe to use if you have sensitive skin.
When I look for a sun tan lotion I always like to buy a good make, I think its best to throw away any unused sun tan milk at the end of the year and buy new each year. Im not sure how long it keeps but it is always safer to get new then you know that your skin is protected against the suns rays.
If possible it's always better to stay out of the sun, but if you work outside like me then always keep something for protection against the sun in the car.
This sun tan cream can be used on children as well as adults.
So lets hope theres going to be a bit more sunshine around then I might get a good tan, after the redness has died down I should look good.
This stuff is staying in my car for now just in case I get caught out again.
