“ Brand: Ambre Solaire / Sun / Type: After Sun / Subcategory: Tan / What it does: Smoothes, Tans, / Gender: Unisex Sun and Tan „
I first tired out this product when I went on holiday a few months ago. I spent an entire afternoon browsing Boots and Superdrug, looking for the perfect sun protection lotion and after sun to take on holiday with me.
I didn't want my after sun to be oily or greasy feeling in any way and I wanted something to help me maintain my tan for as long as possible, knowing that when I came back after 7 days of sun, I most likely wouldn't have the chance to top up in rainy England.
There was an offer on at Boots for buy one get one free sun lotion and after sun. What a perfect offer I thought, but there were so many different brands to chose from!
What attracted me to this one was that it read "tan maintainer" and that was exactly what I was looking for. When I tried this after my first tanning session, I was very pleased with the pleasant, creamy feel of it. The lotion absorbed nicely and quite quickly into my skin and the fragrance was nice and not too overpowering.
I did notice that there was a hint of self tan in the lotion that did help boost and maintain my natural tan and I was very pleased with that. This lotion gets a big thumbs up for me as it did exactly what it said on the bottle!
- AMBRE SOLAIRE.-
I have been using Ambre Solaire after sun tan maintainer for a couple of years now. I always buy a tube when Summer approaches. This stuff is brilliant! It is the best tan enhancer I have tried, and I have tried a few. I love Ambre Solaire products, the scents are always so nice and instantly recognisable.
The tan maintainer comes in a blue plastic tube, with the Ambre Solaire written across the top. It states this cream is for a longer lasting tan, and that it is an after sun tan maintainer. It is also suitable for face and body. The weight is 150ml. It prolongs your tan, and maintains a nice bronzed healthy glow, and that's exactly what it does, and a very natural look it is too.
What it does is makes your own natural sun kissed colour a little more intense. It contains it's own self tanning properties to bring out gradually, a stronger depth of colour in your skin and maintain it for you. It is packed full of it's own moisturisers, which will rehydrate your skin to keep it in tip top condition, after being in the damaging heat of the sun.
It will also soothe 'sun skin' and cool it down. It's a very subtle look, and gives a very pretty effect. After you have been in the sun smooth it all over your body, till it is fully absorbed, the active ingredients will make your skin feel fully moisturised, whilst giving it a nice healthy glow. The tanning agents will take about four hours to fully intensify, but once it is rubbed into the skin well, and after the recommended period of 15 minutes of not coming into contact with any clothing etc, it should not rub off on your clothes, or stain them at all. The tube lasts for ages, you don't seem to need an awful lot of this on application.
The colour when it comes out of the tube is a white cream, and quite loose in consistency, which you squeeze through the nozzle in the end of the tube, looking pretty much like a large tube of toothpaste. The smell is that of a mild self tanning cream, it has that 'tang'. Remember after you have applied this creme to your skin, wash your hands at once, and thoroughly, to remove any residue of the cream, as this will stain your palms if you don't get it off! You will have a severe case of orange palm!
As I say, I have been using this for a couple of years now, as it is just so darn good. The colour it achieves is very natural looking light tan. I use this in the winter as well. It just makes me look that little bit healthier. The creme absorbs well, and doesn't feel sticky at all. The smell is like Ambre Solaire products, they have a certain smell about them, and it is very pleasant. It reminds me of summer, and the beach. ~
The Ambre Solaire after sun tan maintainer costs: £6.99 for 150ml from Superdrug.
Thank you for reading
I came back from a holiday in Lanzarote last year a Bronzed Goddess! Actually I was just bronzed, as, at just 5ft nothing, I certainly could never be described as a 'Goddess'! Of course, as we all know, those beautiful sun kissed (or for those more sensible ones......sun damaged) looks do tend to fade rather quickly once we get back to the good old British weather that we all love...Hee Hee. This time, however I was determined to make it last !! Hence I decided to try Ambre Solaire after Sun Tan Maintainer.(Now known as Garnier Ambre Solaire)
I purchased my 150ml tube from Sainsbury's, it was on a special offer at just 5.99 GBP. (normally retails at between 6.99 and 7.50).
On the back of the tube it does ask if this product is right for you ? It advises that it is ideal if your skin needs rehydrating and if you want to prolong and 'intensify' your suntan. It has been especially devised to rebalance and rehydrate overheated skin....Yep this is definitely for me !
The way it works is that it contains a very low level of self tan, it will subtly enhance and even deepen your existing tan. It contains Glycerol and vitamin E thus hydrating your skin and helping to prevent peeling, leaving your skin soft and smooth. It is dermatologically tested and suitable for both the face and the body.
Right, I've showered and am ready to 'Enhance', For once in my life I have decided to read the instructions, something I never normally do and has resulted in a great many disasters ! Simply apply on to clean skin avoiding the eyebrows and the roots of your hair and wash your hands after application.
Well time is now moving on and I am due to go to work soon so best get going then !! I smoothed the pleasant smelling, non greasy, milk all over my body, I have used it quite sparingly and it spreads quite nicely so I think a little will go a long way.
By the time I have done this I have little time to spare so hurriedly dress and rush out the door to work, I am assuming it will take a while to 'develop' as there are no immediate results.
Isn't it flattering when you see people for the first time after a holiday and they all comment "you've gone a lovely colour", well that's exactly what people said to me when I got to work and, of course I was chuffed. It did help that I had worn the obligatory white T-shirt, I'm sure we all do that, white shows your tan off .
Okay, so far so good, however after about an hour at work, my friend suddenly asked me what I had got all over my T-shirt, puzzled I looked down...........and was mortified.........I had rusty fingerprints all over my previously pristine white shirt......yep, you got it, I had been in such a hurry to get to work I had forgotten the 'golden rule' always wash your hands after application. Of course by then my tan had started to develop, I have to say it was subtle and a lovely colour (it did help that I was already a lovely bronze shade) and had worked well, however I did have to admit to my work colleagues that I had....err.....helped it along a little, and they all had a good giggle at my expense !! My hands, by the way, looked a bit of a mess as they had gone a little brown and rusty around the nails and the lotion had collected in the lines of my palms so much so that a palmist could have read my palms from a distance !!
Overall this is a very good product, it does what it says on the packet and enhances a natural tan perfectly. It is recommended that you use it on a daily basis for the first week and twice a week thereafter. My skin is left feeling very soft and it does have a lovely soothing effect after the heat leaving a very subtle yet fragrant smell, it takes about 15 minutes to dry, sinking into your skin quite quickly,it takes about an hour to develop and you are left with a lovely glow. I did not get any streaking, other than on my hands, but I think you would get streaks if you did not rub it in well. The bright blue packaging is also recyclable so environmentally friendly too.
So there you have it , but, please always make sure you wash your hands after using it !!!!!!!

I purchased this originally because it was on offer at superdrug for £3.49, which is half price and had read about products like this in magazines, which help you keep that healthy suntanned glow. I started using this product after my first days sunbathing and found it made my skin sooo smooth unfortunately I had applied a little too much because the next day I was a little streaky around the bottom of my feet and now realise that you should treat it as a fake tan and should apply with care (and wash your hands afterwards!) But now I apply it correctly I found that it really works I know I?m not really this brown but people at work don?t and that is all due to this product. The Product ----------------- The product first and foremost is an after sun it contains glycerol and vitamin E to keep your skin smooth and prevent peeling but the hidden secret is the low level of self tanning ingredients that it contains and this helps to maintain your tan for longer by subtly deepening your current colour. The product is white and creamy, slightly runny and smells like aftersun not fake tan and it absorbs really easy. How to use ----------------- The product states that you should this daily during your first week of tanning and then once or twice a week thereafter. I use it every day but as my tan fades I shall probably cut down to 3 times a week. The price ------------- Well it should cost £6.99 for 150ml but superdrug have it on offer at half price £3.49. This is an ace product and there are a lot on the market at the minute, which I haven?t tried, but I think this really is value for money! Cheers x
I cannot believe l am about to give away my tanning enhancing secret which l have kept quite about for the last 2 years not even telling my closest friends!! DooYoo readers consider yourselves very lucky!! Ambre Solaire After Sun Tan Maintainer comes in a 500ml tub and can be found at the usual outlets - Boots, Superdrug, Tescos etc - its also available from online pharmacists also who stock sun products. It costs approximately £6.49 and is worth every single penny spent!! BEWARE - do not buy Tescos own brand which is cheaper - it does not work like the Ambre Solaire. So why is this product sooo fabulous? Well apart from moisturising your skin after you have spent a hard day sun bathing it also contains 1-2% of a false tan that develops over time. It helps enhance your natural colour - boosting if you like!! It is especially good if you do find it hard to develop a decent colour! It does not streak but l would advise just to err on the side of caution that you thorougly wash your hands after applying (and advise that to who ever rubs it into your back for you!!!) and also wipe excess away from areas such as elbows or knees. The lotion is in a screw top tube and is white and quite runny, but a little really does go a long way. When summer threatens l tend to use this product especially after bathing as there is a moisturisor in built so it is soothing also and it takes away that glow in the dark shade you have become over the dark dank winter months. The cream also smells of summer - you know it reminds you of sangria, sun sea and sand!! Now l have let you all into my secret l am expecting your promise to keep this mircale in a tube to yourselfs - we wouldnt want everyone knowing how to look bronzed and beautiful now would we!!
This product is THE ANSWER for all us girls with naturally pale skin. It only contains a wee small amount of fake tan, so no worries about orange skin. It goes on just like a nice body lotion, and develops in a few hours (or overnight). The smell (all important) is delicious and won't give you away. It's usually on special offer at Boots or Superdrug, so it's a great bargain. Use it on legs, arms, face - all over! I use it all year round. Oh and a tip from one who has learnt the hard way - remember to exfoliate all over, and put body lotion on your feet and hands before application. Don't know why, but even at this low level, fake tan clings to dry skin and will not yield to any amount of scrubbing if it all goes pearshaped!
i've been using fake tan for years now, being the kind of girl who would look pallid after two years in the gobi desert, so i feel i'min a position to comment on this one. after years of trying the cheapest and most expensive on the market, i can honestly say this is the best there is. the tan maintainer means that this product is half moisturiser (or after sun) and half fake tan, guaranteeing you a really natural colour, and if you have been nin the real rays atall, a silky soft rosy glow too. smells like lovely expensive moisturiser rather than mouldy tea skin dye, and is cheap as chips. i am never without a bottle and have even been known to got o gatwick airport to buy a botle when our crappy UK chemists dont stock it in the winter. praise indeed
I've recently bought a bottle of Ambre Solarie DuoTan Self Tanning Milk from Boots . It cost 6 pounds 49 which I didn't think was too expensive compared to other similar products avaliable , and it is made my Laboritories Ganier Paris , so that has to be good ! The golden tan was visible about 2 hours after I had applied the solution and I was amazed how natural it looked , I have fair skin so was worried i'd look like the honey monster , but it looked great . It is best to exfoliate before you apply the lotion as the tan lasts longer , mine lasted about 4 to 5 days . It takes about 15mins for the lotion to sink in so don't sit down during that time unless you want the streaky look !!! Another tip is to apply the lotion evenly and don't put to much on the back of the knees and elbows as it will look patchy . Also remember to wash your hand very well after application of other wise you will end up will tell - tale orange hands . It takes a while to perfect the look , but it's worth trying , mine looked a bit streaky the first time but I think it was because I didn't rub the lotion in well enough . Now i've perfected the art and I feel confident with my tan , the lotion is suitable for the body and face . The major bonus is a great tan with out hours in the sun or sunburn !!
Ambre Solaire - After Sun Tan Maintainer This is definitely on my shopping list after every holiday! Not only is it a really effective after sun, it contains a small amount of self-tanning agent to keep that newly back from your holiday look! Unlike lots of fully grown fake tans it's non streaky and doesn't turn your skin the colour of a tangerine! I think at seven pound odds it is a tad expensive to use on holiday but it's certainly worth the investment when you return. The only drawbacks are; it's in a plastic tube which is virtually impossible to use up the last drops without cutting the tube and after applying you have to leave it to soak in before dressing
Smoothes onto the skin / This is designed to be used after sun bathing and contains a little self-tanning agent to maintain a tan, however used purely as a fake tan the results were good / a medi
