A great find to stop me looking so pale

As I am naturally quite pale, I often try to make myself look more glowing by using some fake tan, but as the skin on my face is sensitive and spot prone I always struggled to find a good fake tan for my face. I have tried Dove's moisturiser with added tanning and the Olay but found they smelt far too strongly and brought me out in spots

As I had used the Ambre Solaire No Streak Bronzer Dry Mist on my body and found it suited my skin the best I thought I would give their face mist a try.

The Dry Face Mist comes in Fair-Light Skin and Medium-Dark Skin. I opted for the Fair to Light Skin option as I did not want to look orange. All I wanted was a little colour to make me look and feel better. The tanning spray comes in a 75ml spray can with an aerosol spray applicator. The can is a creamy-brown in colour with Ambre Solaire's logo and name at the top, 'no streaks bronzer in a brown box and a quick direction of use with a picture at the bottom. On the back is a full list of ingredients and a more detailed directions of use.

Ambre Solaire claim this to give a naturally looking, streak free tan whilst the Apricot extract leave skin feeling moisturised and supple. As I have dry patches of skin the moisturising benefit really does appeal. As I have now been using the mist on and off for a year I thought I could now give it a thorough review and I have to say I love it! It is also the only fake tan for your face that has never brought me out in spots! Amazing!

      Direction of Use
To apply simply shake the can, close your eyes and hold back any hair, and hold around 30 cm away from the face, then spray for no more than 5 seconds. I always do this after my face is cleansed and toned. The spray is a dry mist so dries instantly on your skin.

      Results & Verdict
The mist has a natural fragrance to it when first applied which I associate with the Apricot extract, but after an hour or so you can get a faint fake tan smell, but this is only a light smell to it and it isn't too overpowering like the Dove and Olay versions. I also like the fact it is a spray as this makes it so easy to use and apply and you don't have to rub it in, which is where I had problems with other brands. The mist feels lovely on your skin and my face felt moisturised when it was applied and for hours afterwards. Within 3 hours the tan will begin to develop and you are left with a light natural looking tan.

With using the fair to light option the depth of the tan is very light, but if you have a few applications the tan does build but this is a gradually increase which means you don't go from being pale to looking lie you've been on the sunbed for 10 hours. The tan had a golden look to it when it develops which is very close to my natural tan, and even if you build the tan up it still never looks orange. It doesn't sweat off or flake at all and if you stop using it, it slowly wears off.

I would say that from when you apply it the tan will last for around 4 days if you are regularly cleansing, toning and exfoliating. I tend to top it up every 3 days to maintain the tan and it never becomes too heavy but stays a natural glow. I have used it to build up a deeper tan prior to going on holiday and I applied it once a day for a week and this worked great and still looked natural.

The tan costs around £8.50 from Superdrug and Boots stores but last week I did buy it from Morrison's Supermarket for £3.00!! This was advertised as an offer so I am not sure if it was a promotion or not, but nevertheless it's a good buy at over half the price of the RRP!

The tanning mist is great for those wanting a natural tan, easy to use, not messy and gives a great natural look!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A fake tan I can't make my mind up about!

I'm very pale and don't tan very easily. I have tried fake tan products in the past but end up either orange, streaky or exactly the same colour as before I used the fake tan. I have also resorted to using wash off tans because they are often visible as you put them on so you can check if it's even. However, this year I didn't want one that will wash off. My plan was to research fake tan products properly, read reviews, and spend a little more than I have done in the past in the hope that it would be worth it. So after finding, examining, and reading reviews on many fake tan products I decided on Ambre solaire. I bought the dry face mist and also the dry body mist.

This product cost me £7.72 from Superdrug for a 75ml bottle, however I later realised that it is available from Boots for £5.78. It is available for light/medium skin or medium/dark skin. I went for light/medium because I only wanted a light tan as i'm very pale naturally with light blonde hair and blue eyes. A dark tan would look too unnatural.

When I used it, it had been sunny over the weekend, so I assumed that everybody except for me would have a natural tan. So in time for Monday I used both the face and the body fake tan. I won't speak about the body fake tan in this review, i'll just say that I wasn't happy with it. The face tan, I found was very easy to apply. You simply shake the can and spray over your face. There is no need to rub it in so you don't have to touch your face at all. It feels slightly like it's dripping down your face but don't touch your face because you might smudge it. I liked the smell as I was applying it as it was nicer than a lot of self tan products I have used in the past. It smelt light and fruity to me. It says on the can 'dries instantly', however it does not dry instantly. For a while I felt like little bits of it were dripping down my face and I felt like it was still too wet to touch for several hours after.

The tan is supposed to develop in three hours. After about two hours I had no tan and I went to bed, so I don't know when it developed.

The next morning I went to look in the mirror, hoping it had worked but also hoping it wouldn't be too dark or streaky. I was expecting a light tan, however I was horrified to see that my face was orange. It looked completely unnatural. On the bright side, it was completely streak free. Obviously I washed my face as usual but the tan didn't get any less orange. I went to college and noticed throughout the day that my tan seemed to get even more orange.

When I got home I had a shower and gave my face a really, really good scrub in the hope of getting this hideous orange tan off my face. When I came out of the shower, I had the lovely light, streak free tan on my face that I wanted. I wondered then if it was maybe too light, but then anything is better than dark orange. I was pretty happy with it now but I found that once i'd got the colour I wanted it only lasted about a day, and I haven't dared to use it again.

The bottle feels like it is already about half empty from just one use so I don't think you would get that many uses from it. Therefore it isn't really worth the money I paid for it.

Overall, there are things I liked and things I didn't like about this product. First, I loved how easy it was to apply and the fact that my tan was completely streak free. However, I hated the colour it came out and the fact that it didn't seem to wash off in the morning. I then loved the colour it was when I did manage to wash it off, but didn't like that it didn't really last. Overall, I don't think i'd recommend it unless you want to look like an oompa lumpa. Weighing everything up, I'm going to give this product three stars.

        Try now!!

This product that I am reviewing is Garnier Ambre Solaire Dry Face Mist. I have been using this product for around one year now and tend to spray my face every month or so just to give me a healthy glow.

This is a self tan with apricot extract and vitamin E. It is a no streaks bronzer- and believe me it really isn't! I have the light version to suit my skin tones but you can get the medium/dark version. I found this product great when I had come back from my holiday and wanted to prolong my tan and my face does tan too good as it is!

It dries instantly so there is no need to wait for it to dry and be really careful about it. This an excellent product! To use it all you have to do is shake the bottle, move hair and close eyes, hold can 30cm away and spray for up to 30 seconds and the tan will develop in 3 hours!

This product comes in an orange looking tin- do not be put off with lots of information on it! I brought mine from Boots but it is available in all good supermarkets too! It retails for around £7-8.00 but this is not too bad because it lasts for a while!

You can also get the body version to make your body look bronzed and beautiful and this is around £9.00! Also lasts a long time too.

I have used this product many times and it has never gone wrong, it smells fruity and delicious and I have always had good things to say about it. Many of my friends have used this product and they feel the same. The only bad point I suppose is the price which can be expensive initially but it is worth it. 5/5 from me.

This is not like any other fake tan- it is amazing!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Great product and easy to use.

I recently bought this product after good results from the garnier dry body mist tan. I had never put fake tan on my face before as most products didn't work very well but I gave it a go.

I sprayed the product for a couple of seconds all over my face and neck. It dried very quickly and wasn't sticky like other products I have used. It still had that fake tan smell but it seems like every tanning product has that. The product didn't come off even when dried in like the body mist had done which I was pleased about. The colour started to appear very quickly as said on the back of the bottle (3 hours) which was good. The colour didn't come out a lot as I had only put on a little just to make sure I didn't end up with an orange streaky face. Although I had only put on a little the colour was perfectly even with no streaks at all. It was a nice brown colour, not orange but a natural colour which you don't find with many other products. Another bonus was that because it was a spray it didn't get all over your hands and tan them aswell making it easy to use.

I put on another coat the day after to get a darker colour which came out a lot better with no streaks again and not orange. I was extremely happy with this product as it didn't leave my face orange and streaky. I would definately recommend it but my advice would be to only put a little on the first day and then another coat the next day. This stops the tan going streaky because if to much is put on it runs leaving streaks. Another tip is to remember DO NOT RUB IN. This makes it go streaky. The tan also lasts for about three or even four days depending on how many coats you put on which is good as the bottle will last along time, so good value for money (about £6). A fabulous product that dries quick, doesn't leave you streaky or like an orange. Excellent!

I never tried self tanning products on the face because I was terrified of having to walk around with a streaky orange face for days! I decided to give it a go, and got ambre solaire dry face mist. Long story short, I absolutely love it!! I sprayed just a little product on the face, and the day after I had a lovely, very subtle glow. I repeated a few days later and it looked like I went away for the weekend, totally natural and no streaks! I'm very happy I tried this and will keep on using it for a long time! I also love the fact that it dries very quickly and doesn't smell weird. Plus, it's not too expensive either!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A self tanning spray specifically for the face from Garnier.

In the past I’ve tried a couple of self tan products specifically for the face but they’ve all left me looking unnaturally tanned and also rather streaky which isn’t a good look at all! I then moved onto using body self tan’s on my face but found this made my face feel quite greasy and repeated application resulted in spots, again it wasn’t a good look! On a recent shopping trip to Boots I came across the Ambre Solaire Garnier Dry Face Mist which was designed just for the face. I’d previously seen the TV advert for the body version of this mist and was rather dubious about looking as orange as the girl featured on the advertisement but as it was on offer I decided to splurge out, hoping for a good look!

The spray comes in a 75ml bottle which is a golden / orange colour designed to give you a hint presumably of the result of using the spray. The spray is dispensed using a push down applicator at the top which is covered by a clear plastic lid. The lid does have a tendency to come off quite easily so do be careful if you’re carrying it around in a bag. The bottle is a little overcrowded with information which does make it quite hard to focus on the relevant information.

As for the spray itself it comes out clear and has a strong fake tan spray which is quite sickly if you spray it for too long. It’s slightly perfumed and has that typical tan smell that seems to be present in all self tan products these days. If you get it on your clothes and wash them straight away then it doesn’t appear to stain at all which is always good.

Here’s to the important bit of the review… using the spray! Firstly you need to make sure you remove all your make up and tie your hair back to ensure that your face can be evenly covered. To dispense the spray you merely need to press down on the dispenser which will release a constant and even mist approximately 30cm from your face. Simply hold the dispenser down for around 3-5 seconds and move the spray over your face to ensure it reaches all areas. It feels quite cooling on your face at first although when I feel it start to run slightly I always want to wipe my face – DON’T! This is a clear sign that you’ve put enough spray on your face and you can stop spraying! Then you need to let the spray dry which actually only takes about a minute or two which I was quite impressed with, there’s no need to rub in the spray or anything which avoids streaks I’ve found. A little tip is to apply it to the top of your neck a little as well to avoid any sharp lines.

The results will develop within 3 hours it says on the packaging although I tend to apply the product just before bed and by the next morning my face has an even and golden tan all over it. The first time I used it I woke up expecting streaks and unevenness galore so was mightily surprised to find that my face looked naturally tanned with not a single streak in sight! The colour is quite deep; it does look like you’ve been in the sun for a good few hours or on the sun bed but I suppose that’s the whole point of using a fake tan product. The colour is very natural, despite the colours shown on some of the adverts on the TV for the body version of this product there is never a hint of orange in site on my face. The effects last about 2-3 days but I find it best to re-apply the product every other night to keep the colour up.

The spray comes in “fair to normal skin” “normal to dark skin” which means that there’s a shade for most people out there. I bought the normal to dark skin version and although I’m not particularly tanned this seems to bring out the best results. I think that the fair to normal skin would suit very pale people but everyone else, if you actually want to see a result, should opt for the latter spray.

It’s currently priced at £6.99 for a bottle from Boots which may seem quite pricey but does seem to fit in quite well with other face tanning products. I’ve had my bottle for about 3 weeks now and I’d say I’m nearing the halfway point from what I can tell, therefore if you regularly apply this product 2-3 times a week I’d expect it to last you anything up to 2 months. I’ll certainly be buying this again and think I’ve found a good staple product that will be present in my make up bag for a long time to come!

        Thanks for reading!
