“ Brand: Ambre Solaire / Type: Bronzer / Subcategory: Body Mist / Suitable for: Body / What it does: Bronzes, „
Ambre Solaire no streaks bronzer body mist uses a light and fine mist in order to provide an easy and non - streaked coverage which quickly dries and doesn't transfer easily. The colour is natural and can be built up easily into a stronger colour if used consistently.
I used Ambre Solaire body mist before my prom in order to achieve a light glow rather than a full on tan. It was easy to use myself when doing my legs, my arms or my front but when you want to use it on your back you may want to ask someone else to do it so that you don't miss any spots. The difference is noticeable after the first use but isn't too strong and is more natural which is the look I was trying to achieve.
If you want to achieve a darker look then you will have to use the product more in order to build up the colour. Instead of being a quick fix for when you want a tan this product needs to be used over time in order to achieve a darker, more noticeable tan, but if you are trying to achieve a natural glow then this product is ideal as it doesn't cake the product on like tan mousses or gels.
As the product promises the mist doesn't streak because there is no need to rub the product into your skin. This also means that you don't have to deal with having brown hands after applying it like you would with most other products! The tan is even and the can allows you to use the product at any angle so you don't miss any spots. The tan does take a couple of hours to develop though so you may want to apply this product in advance to make sure you achieve your desired colour.
The only problem with this product is that because it is a spray the mist tends to settle on the floor and on anything that it is sprayed on to. Me and my friend used this product when it first came out but didn't really know what to do and so just did it in her bathroom, much to our horror the next day we woke up to rather brown foot soles and also rather brown previously white towels... her family wasn't impressed shall we say... But now, with a bit of experience, in order to combat this I apply the product while standing in the bath tub so that I can easily wash away any mist that has settled on the bath. However, once the product is dry it doesn't transfer on to bed sheets or clothes unlike some other products.
Price wise, in comparison to other brands the price is very reasonable, but being a student I tend to wait until it is on offer just to get as much money off as possible! But considering the quality of the product I would still be more than happy to pay the full price!
Overall, I would definitely recommend Ambre Solaire to a friend because it is high quality for a reasonable price! If you want to achieve a natural, tanned look that you can build up to a colour that you want then this product is ideal for you, if you prefer a quick tan then you'd probably be better with another product. Personally, this is the only fake tan for me because of it's ease, price and quality.
I had never been one for using fake tan, always hating the "tango'd" look that some girls achieve and seem to love! However, when it came around to a big night out and I was looking particularly pale, I decided it might be worth a shout. I was very confused by the vast array of products available and so took advice from a friend. She advised that I go for something which was spray on and didn't require me to shower it off.
This product caught my eye because it promised a streak free finish and it also came in a spray bottle which I assumed would be easy to use. I chose the version for fair skin as I didn't want to go too many shades darker than my natural whiteness! It is also available for medium and dark skin.
I was very wary of the product to begin with so made sure that I read the instructions carefully before starting. The mist sprays on and dries without any need to rub the product into skin. The instructions say to spray the product about 40cm from the skin in regular motions. It recommends using the spray every day until the shade you want is achieved. The tan will take 3 hours to develop. This product is not suitable for use on your face. However, there is a face mist also available in the range.
Using the spray is very easy. The bottle is easy to hold, and it will spray at any angle which is very useful if you don't have someone to help you with the difficult angles! The weird thing about this product is that it is colourless, so you can't see where you have already sprayed. However, if you use it in a logical way you can work out which parts you have already sprayed so I don't feel this is too much of a disadvantage. Initially the product feels damp on the skin and I always end up standing in strange positions so that I don't touch anything. This feeling lasts a few minutes and then my skin feels dry again. I am always paranoid about rubbing my skin afterwards for the first few hours so I try to use the product when I have time to just chill out for a bit. The product will develop over a few hours, so you won't see any change straight away. This is slightly disconcerting as I tend to worry about the eventual results.
The results I have had with the product are very good. I find that it works very well on my legs and chest area where I end up with a lovely even looking tan. Sometimes I do get a good tan on my arms too but I have found my elbow area repeatedly ends up patchy. The last few times I have used this product I havn't bothered to tan my arms. This works out fine as my legs are always paler so I just end up looking more evenly tanned. The pale skin version is definitely the one for me. The final colour is a couple of shades darker than my skin but does not look orange or yellow. I feel that it gives me a nice glow that I would get with a couple of days of sunbathing but isn't too over the top. I once bought the version for medium skin just to see how it would work on my legs. It was considerably darker and I thought it was too much for me.
The one thing I would recommend you do before using the product is exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! When I take the time to make sure my skin is in good condition I always see better results. If you try to use the product with some dry skin you will end up with patches without any doubt. Don't take the chance!
** Top Tip Alert! **
I have another handy tip to share with you based on personal experience! If you have wooden flooring, always put a towel on the floor. A few times I have ended up smearing the product on the bottom of my feet from the floor. This results in a horrible dark orange colour developing on the soles of my feet. This is super embarrassing especially since my boyfriend will not stop mentioning it!! So, if you don't want dark orange feet, use a towel and wash your feet afterwards.
One thing everyone always moans about with fake tan is the smell it leaves on your skin. Compared with the products that my friends use I think that this one smells pretty good. It isn't too overpowering and I always think it smells quite sweet. The smell will stay on your skin for the whole day until you shower. Like I said I don't mind the smell but my boyfriend hates it!
The product is quite pricey, but I do feel that I would pay more for a fake tan product as I would not want to end up with a bad result. I usually buy this from Boots and it costs £11.73 usually. The last time I purchased it I got it on offer for around £7. I find that the can does last for a few applications. If I tan my whole body the can will probably last for 4 applications. Obviously if I just use it for my legs it will last must longer. The tan itself will last a few days and you can re-apply to freshen the tan or to achieve a darker tone.
So, in summary I do like this product a lot. I have been put of using it on my arms by some streaks but it does work well on legs and chest area. The smell is fine, the colour is good and it is easy to use. Just remember to exfoliate and be careful of orange feet!
I decided to try this product because i'm really pale and don't tan very much. I have tried fake tan products in the past but end up either orange, streaky or exactly the same colour as before I used the fake tan. I have also used wash off tans because they are often visible as you put them on so you can check if it's even. However, this year I didn't want one that will wash off. I planned to research fake tan products properly, read reviews, and spend a little more than I have done in the past in the hope that it would be worth it. So after finding, examining, and reading reviews on many fake tan products I decided on Ambre solaire. I bought the dry face mist as well as the dry body mist. I also have a review on the dry face mist if you are interested.
I bought this from Superdrug for £7.72 for a 150ml can, however this is a reduced price; it is usually £11.22. They do one for fair skin and one for medium skin, so even though i'm very pale skinned, I went for the medium one because I wanted to see a good effect.
The first time I tried this, I tried it just on my arms, shoulders, neck and upper chest, as it wasn't quite warm enough to be showing my legs. I found that it was very easy to apply, you just spray it and it requires no rubbing in, however it comes out clear so you can't really tell if you've missed patches. It feels a little like it is dripping down after you apply it but you have to resist the urge to touch it to stop it dripping. I liked the smell as I was applying it as it was nicer than a lot of self tan products I have used in the past. It smelt light and fruity to me. It says on the can 'dries instantly', however it does not dry instantly. For a while I felt like little bits of it were dripping down me and I felt like it was still too wet to touch for a while after. I allowed two hours for the fake tan to dry before going to bed. It still didn't feel dry then but I was shattered and needed my sleep. The tan is supposed to develop in three hours. I had no tan after two hours but as I went to bed then I don't know how long it took.
The next morning I was hoping to see non- streaky lightly tanned arms. However, I was very disappointed to see that instead I had patches of tan over my arms and chest, but also patches of my normal skin colour. It looked horrific. Moreover, it took days to wash off however much I scrubbed at it. So I had to keep my arms covered for about a week. Fortunately, my chest and neck weren't quite as patchy so it wasn't too noticable when I wore a high necklined top and something to cover my arms.
A couple of weeks later I was feeling ready to give this product another chance. I read up on the internet for tips for applying self tan. I read that you should apply it in circular motions, so that's what I did. I only applied it to my legs this time because I knew it would be easier to keep my legs covered. I applied it four hours before I went to bed this time, and was really careful not to let anything at all touch my legs before then. It hadn't developed by the time I went to sleep, but it had by the next morning. I was, again, very disappointed to see that my tan was once again very patchy. The one good thing about this product is that where you do tan, it is a lovely colour and looks natural ant not OTT. So if it is just me being bad at applying it then it may be lovely on someone else.
The bottle feels like it is already about half empty from just one use so I don't think you would get that many uses from it. Therefore it isn't really worth the money I paid for it.
Overall, the only good things about this are that it is easy to apply and it does come out a nice colour. However it is patchy and nothing makes up for that. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone and I definitely won't be using it again.
