I try to avoid the sun in summer and always wear sunscreen but now that winter is here my skin is looking particularly pasty. I decided to try some moisturiser with a hint of a tan so see if it could give me a bit of a natural colour so I didn't resemble Casper the friendly ghost so much. I bought the Biotherm self-tanning gel as I really like Biotherm's products which are especially designed for male skin.
The Biotherm home power bronze gel to give it its full name cost me £28 from an online shop which was a little bit cheaper than I had actually expected to pay having bought Biotherm homme products before and knowing how expensive they actually are.
The power bronze gel comes in a tube which contains 40ml of product. The tube is brown coloured which I suppose is to differentiate it from their other products without the tanner in them but it does look masculine and you wouldn't be embarrassed for it to be seen in your bathroom.
Being a gel as opposed to a cream it manages to just glide over the skin on my face evenly and quickly. It also doesn't absorb instantly and instead takes a minute or so to absorb completely which I assume is to make sure that you have evenly spread it so that you don't get any streaks with it. The gel is really lightweight and it actually feels nice on the skin and it doesn't feel heavy and as if you are plastering your skin with product.
The gel is tinted a bronze colour but this it doesn't give your skin an immediate tint and instead goes on clear and the colour develops over the next few hours. It is supposed to be ultra-natural looking according to the tube but I was a little bit worried it might turn my skin orange looking as I have a bit of a natural orange tint to my skin when it tans. I needn't have worried though as it actually does what it promises and leaves my skin looking really natural with only the slightest hint of colour on it.
Someone else would be hard pressed to notice that you were wearing any sort of self-tan on your skin but you will be able to see that you are not looking quite so pale and pasty with it and it does give the skin a more even uniform look without being unnatural.
Because it is so natural looking I would definitely recommend that you use this for a few days consecutively so that you can build up a bit of colour on the skin. Don't worry about it going too dark as it won't but just putting it on one day probably won't be enough for the majority of people.
The colour is supposed to last for 7 days but I find that I need to use the gel again after about 5 days.
Because the gel makes this go on the skin so smooth I find that I really only do need a little bit of it to cover my own face. I make sure that I get my ears and also my neck when I am doing it but again because it is so natural looking you probably wouldn't even notice if you did forget to do your neck and only did your face.
Overall I have been left really impressed with this gel and think it does exactly what it promises to do which is to give you a really natural colour without any hint of orange or make you look like you are wearing any sort of fake tan.
