Boots Soltan Moisturising Suncare Spray
Advantages: Protects skin, Range of SPF's, Not sticky, Smells nice, Water resistant.
Disadvantages: Price a little high.
I recently went on holiday to the Canary Islands where the temperature was much better than here in England. We had glorious sunshine day in day out, and as much as I love sunbathing, I also know the risks which come along with it. My skin is quite fair, so can burn easily if not protected, so I always stock up on plenty of sun tan lotion as I'd rather be safe than sorry. My mom had always preached about how good the Boots' own Soltan sun lotions were, so I picked up their moisturising sun care spray.
Obviously as this is a Boots' own branded product, it is only available in their stores and online on their website. The RRP of this sun spray is £10.99 which I think is very expensive, but all sun lotions tend to be quite steep anyway. I would never pay full price for this as I think it is too expensive. I got a deal on mine which was buy 1 get 1 free, and this is still currently on (Sep 2012). It is worth stocking up on these when these deals are on as it can save you a fortune.
The sun spray comes as shown in the image. It is a predictable looking sun protection spray, all yellow in colour with all the usual details scrawled across it. It is quite a hefty bottle being 200ml, so in a way you do get your moneys worth. The only problem with it being bigger than other sun creams is that it makes it heavier to carry around with you, but this did not bother me as I planned to be relaxing rather than walking on my holiday!
Because of my fairer skin, and because of the risks of burning, I opted for an SPF 30 which I think is a good protection for an adult, and I still managed to tan whilst using this. The good thing about the Soltan range of these sprays is that there are a whole host of SPF's to suit your needs. It is available in:
* SPF 8
* SPF 15
* SPF 30
* SPF 50+
This makes it suitable for those who want a lower protection and want to focus on tanning. But the option of 50+ in SPF is fantastic as this is great for all the family, especially young children. I was really impressed with the range as it really caters for everyone's needs.
To use this, you simply have to remove the lid and spray directly to the body and rub in. The spray comes out with a nice amount and at a good speed. Give it a good shake before applying for the best results. I have used the Soltan creams before and have been impressed, but this spray is just fantastic. It is so convenient and much less messy than using a cream. I just squirt it all over the body and rub in quickly. It is great if you just want to reapply a quick fix on perhaps your shoulders or one particular area without making a mess. The ease of use with this is just fantastic.
As far as the scent of this product goes, there is a typical sun tan lotion fragrance to it. However, it is quite subtle which is nice, and it isn't one of those absurd fruity or coconut fragranced sun products. It smells nice, but nothing special. One thing I was really impressed with was that is is not sticky. Many spray sun lotions which I have used prior to this left me feeling quite sticky and uncomfortable for a good while after application. This soaks into the skin quickly and easily, and means you can put clothes on straight away without the awkward stickiness.
I could already tell from my first few uses that this was a fantastic, high quality sun spray. However, the icing on the cake for me was how water resistant this is. Many sun products claim to be water resistant, but I seem to burn the worst when I am in water - whether this be the sea or swimming pool on holiday. This sun lotion stuck to my skin during long lengths in water, and you could still feel that it was on. Fantastic, and definitely a safe one for using on kids who go in the pool a lot.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this sun spray to all. The only reason I will knock off one star is due to its high price, however if you can get it on offer I would really recommend doing so. It is a high quality sun spray, and definitely one of the best I have ever used. It seems our summer in the UK is nearly over (was it ever here)? However, I will be sure to stock up for holidays in the future and summers to come. Thanks for reading.
Summary: A really good quality sun lotion from Boots.
