I tan quite easy abroad and generally use factor 15 suncream to protect my skin. I had been told though to use dry oil on the last couple of days of my holiday to really bring out my tan.
I bought this dry oil for £2.99 which compared to alot of suncreams and dry oils is relatively cheap! Its in a spray bottle which is generally the case for dry oils as it makes them easier to apply. It is easy to apply and doesn't take much rubbing in. Your skin fels a bit wet with it on but not greasy which was a surprise. The dry oil does smell really fresh and of coconuts but its not too strong and overpowering. It does say it is water resistant although I didn't go in the water for the last couple of days as I had had my hair braided so I couldn't recommend either way.
The bottle is 250ml and states it is 15 sun protection. I would say its much less than this though as my skin felt like it was cooking which it didn't when I had my 15 suncream on. It did help me tan much quicker the last couple of days and brought me out in a lovely golden tan. I wouldn't recommend using the whole holiday unless you are darker skinned and never burn.
The bottle does last a long time so is definitely worth the £2.99 I paid for it. I would recommend but only for people who don't burn as it doesn't give you the protection needed for more sensitive skin.
I am very lucky to have skin that tans well, if using the proper protection. When I go aboard I always use sun cream for the first few days to allow my skin to get the initial tan and then I go onto the Calypso dry oil range.
I first came across the range in Matalan who were selling it for £2 a bottle several years ago. This was my first adult holiday abroad and so I brought a factor 15, 10 and 8 in this range as well as other sun creams. Since then I always try to get this spray again because for me its the best one out there. I brought it from Matalan way back in 2008 but I have seen it there numerous times since and is usually my first port of call when buying it. I have seen it on Amazon and Home bargains sell it, all ranging from £2.99 to £8 for a 250ml bottle and has a variety of different factors, I usually get the lower end ones but I have seen this in a factor 30 for those who prefer higher factors. I have also used this on all of my foreign holidays since 2008, my last being in Cuba July 2012 and used it here in the UK if needed.
Using the spray
Ive used various oils and sun creams over the years both here in the UK and abroad, however I find that a lot of them are incredibly greasy and heavy. I brought this spray with a hope of it being much lighter and non greasy feeling and that is what I got. Having been in the sun for over a week I apply this first thing before going out into the sun. Application is easy and hassle free, the oil is clear and smelling ok, nothing amazing but it smells like most sun cream/oils smell like. The oil settles onto the skin well and once applied it does not leave any greasy residue or leaving the skin feeling clammy, a problem I get a lot with sun cream and other oils. Once its on it doesn't feel like you have anything on the skin, which for me is good because all sun creams/oils should melt into the skin. So once applied off I go into the sun. As recommended with all creams and oils regular reapplying is advised, of which I did 2/3 times during the day. It is water resistant but again its always advisable to reapply once out of the pool/sea
I love this oil so much. As stated above a lot of creams and oils feel incredibly heavy and greasy on the skin but this didn't at all. It gave me a lovely golden tan and not at any stage did I burn or feel like I was burning with this on. I usually use the lower factors but my friend who is lighter skinned used factor 20 and said it gave her a great tan. I have used this many times and if I go abroad I always seek to find this oil first, sometimes its not always possible as I do go away out of season and so not stocked in the winter months. If you do locate it try a bottle as you wont be disappointed.
One thing I have never really given a lot of though to in the past if I'm honest is suncare. I am very pale skinned and only been sunburnt once in my life and that was when I was a child (up until a few weeks ago that is!) because I never liked the sun much (in the past) and didn't worship it and tried to avoid it at all costs.
However this year I've had to take an interest in stuff to stop my skin getting frazzled because like I have just mentioned I have got sunburt this year once and it was only when I was exposed to the skin one morning walking around a huge outdoor market and this year I have been spending alot of time outdoors as my parents have a lovely backgarden, I have one as well that I like to sit in and I have a new hobby which is cycling and I love it which is why when I was recently in my local B & M Store and spotted this 'Dry Oil' I bought it. I liked very much the idea of a spray and go method of application style and it only cost £2.99 for a very large bottle of the stuff which I thought was a great price too.
The bottle this comes in is 250ml in size and clear plastic with a slightly curved middle to it for ease of handling and a pump action orange sprayer to the top of it which comes with a matching coloured safety cap. On the front of it we are told that it is indeed Calypso, Dry Oil Clear Protection '15 Medium' Sun Protection and that it is suitable for use on the body and the scalp and the size is stated (As I have listed already) and on the back label we are told a bit about the product and how to use it, we are told that once opened to use it up within 18 months and contact details for the manufacturer are stated. Nice enough, unisex bottle and its highly informative too and I like it its simple and no nonsense approach!
This is absolutely fantastic stuff and I love it! It is a formula that is suitable for the whole family to use on the body and/or scalp and is meant to stop sunburn and contain UVA & UVB protection and to use it all you do is spray it generously to where you want to and it comes out wet and takes so little rubbing in it is unreal and not only does this smell divine and really tropical of coconuts with a slight hint of cocoa to it (I get comments about this all the time, most recently in the pub!) it really does protect my skin incredibly well and gently moisturises my skin without it feeling greasy, heavy or pore blocking and I can dress as soon as I have applied this too as it is so fastly absorbed.
You are meant to reapply this if you are sweating heavy or in and out of water though it does say that it is water resistant which I guess means if you are in the water with it on you should be fine but that its a good idea to top it up from time to time.
On every level I love this one and am so happy I took the chance and bought it. With this I can literally spray and go, I love the scent and can happily go about my day and find that even if I am in the sun all day long, cycling and sunbathing I am protected from sun burn without having to apply it more than once....unless I want to!
A little of this goes a very long way indeed and I have noticed that not only when I have applied this my skin looks really healthy but that with using it every day for the past couple of weeks that my skin really is in top notch condition and think this is a fantastic moisturiser and I haven't been burnt once, in fact I have a lovely golden tan at the moment!
A brilliant buy and one I won't be without now!
Google if interested though I have seen this on my travels in many discount type stores!
