The Dove Summer Glow Nourishing Lotion is available for GBP 2.50.
The lotion is described as follows. "Dove believes having a fresh, sun-kissed look should not be reserved just for the summer. Dove Summer Glow Nourishing Lotion with a subtle self-tanner nourishes your skin while gradually enhancing your natural skin colour. For a beautiful summer glow all year round. Apply daily in circular motions all over to gradually build an even tan. Allow to absorb fully before dressing. Wash hands after use. Dove Summer Glow contains the unique DeepCare Complex, with natural skin nutrients and rich essential oil to help gradually improve skin starting deep down."
The lotion has a pleasant scent, so it has a slight scent of sunscreen, but you can also, if it smells a little longer, so perceive a slight chemical smell that but have just about all tanning products. The consistency I would personally describe as relatively liquid, but really has its advantages when applying, because I do not need much, so my skin is completely covered with it. The lotion moves extremely quickly into the skin and then I wash my hands, just to prevent my skin something could be too brown on the hands eventually. It took a few days until I could actually see results that I also found both good and bad. Was very good, that the lotion has actually made my skin a little tan, which I thought was incredible. It is a pity, however, that in spite of a regular order my tan has not become even, but could be seen in some places even more or less. Well, I think as well as the care, since the product nourishes the skin incredibly soft and delicate and the maintenance also stops very long.
Living in Scotland you don't see a lot of sunshine, even is summer which means that my skin is so pale it almost has a blue tinge to it! Having a few moles on my back ad legs I am not keen to use sunbeds for safety reasons so my only option is fake tan to stop me looking like a walking corpse.
I have tried many over the years and have had more disasters than I care to admit so I like the idea of the dove summer skin body lotion with a gradual tan. Meaning I wouldn't go from blue to orange in one small sweep and I could top up my tan whilst moisturising my skin. I chose the fair to medium shade, (not wanting to end up looking like a wotsit) which cost me about £4ish from Asda.
The lotion is quite strong smell, which I'm not quite sure how to describe. It's not overly unpleasant, but then its not how I would choose to go around smelling either. The cream itself is white in colour and has a nice light texture. It applies easily and leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturised. I applied it to my skin after a shower.
I woke up the next day hoping for a nice golden glow to my skin, but nothing, no change at all. Since I am so pasty I thought maybe I needed a few applications to get it going so I applied it every night for over a week and guess what?...not a thing! Maybe I just got a dodgy batch but I was disappointed to find that after the effort my skin was still as blue as it had always been.
I persevered until the end of the bottle but it made no difference, so sadly I would not recommend this product based on my experience of it. My hunt for the holy grail of self tan continues so what this space...
I am a massive fan of this and I have been using it for about 3 years now.I usually buy the fair to medium skin as I do have quite light skin but I have on occasion tried the medium to dark which was also ok just a little dark for my skin tone.I tend to use this moisturiser more during the summer months and i have found it to be a great gradual tan lotion it looks a lot more natural than some other tinted moisturising lotions and it is less streaky and develops evenly(As long as youbapply it evenly to your skin). It does stain your hands so make sure you was them throughly after you have applied it...do not be fooled into thinking it will not stain your hands because it may not look like it is on your hands but remember it is a gradual tanner and the colour will develop over several hours then it will be to late to wash it off.I made this mistake the first time I used it. The moisturiser goes on very smoothly and I am obsessed with how nice it smells..it smells far better tan some other dove moisturising products. It is not a soapy smell at all like so many of the other Dove oroduct range tends to smell of..it is just a really nice smell. It applies to your skin really well and you will se results in as little as 3 - 4 hours. The more times you applynit the darker your tan will become .Imwas lucky enough to buy it for the bargain price of £1 from Poundland when imfirst tried it but I have never bought it that cheap since ...intend to buy it fro Amazon for around £3:or wilkinsons for a little less but you may not find it after summer has passed unless you buy it online,
I am naturally dark skinned, so always get a bit grumpy in the winter when the suns gone in! This product is fantastic and is not expensive either. It smells gorgeous and it''s really easy to apply. Non greasy and absorbs really well. I absolutely love it. A lovely subtle and gradual tan and the bottle lasts ages as it''s a great size! I use it every day as my moisturiser and I swear by it -- an absolute staple for me!
I have been using moisturisers with a hint of tan in them for years but trust me when I say that they aren't all the same and some are so much better than others. The Dove summer glow is a pretty good one and although it isn't my favourite one to use it is one that I do buy when it is on an offer and the one I prefer isn't.
It costs 5 but can often be found on either a third off or half price depending on where you buy it. Like all of the gradual tanners on the market this isn't an actual fake tan that develops over the course of a few hours and instead it is basically a body moisturiser that has a little touch of fake tan in it which builds up gradually over the course of a few days. It can be used on its own to give you just a hint of a glow or else it can be used to compliment a natural or fake tan by intensifying it and helping to prolong it for longer.
I always buy the one for fair to medium skin and it does develop into a nice colour after a few days. When I first used this I did develop some streaks but I figured out the best way to apply it by constantly rubbing it in until the whole lot was absorbed and now I can use it without streaks or patches. It takes a bit longer and is more involved than my favourite one but as long as I can be bothered with this extra faff then I know I am guaranteed a nice result. The colour is more natural than a lot of them and it doesn't make you orange or cover up your actual tan and instead it enhances it and just makes it a little bit deeper.
I like this one because even without the tan it is a really thick and rich body moisturiser so it is good if you are suffering from dry skin. Because it is thick though it does take extra massaging to get it to absorb properly into your skin and it is important to massage it until completely absorbed so as to not develop any streaks.
I am using a bottle of this at the moment because it was on offer last week and just looking at my arms as I type this I can see the difference in colour and it is helping to maintain my (fake) tan until Sunday when I go through the whole ritual of applying my actual proper fake tan.
I decided to try this product since I trust the brand, having used other Dove moisturisers in the past, and I liked the concept of the product, with the 2 in 1 effect of creating a natural-looking tan and nourishing the skin. I have never used fake tan or tinted moisturiser before, as I have always been afraid of getting an uneven finish or an unnatural or very dark colour. I have reasonably fair skin, especially in the winter, and although I do get a tan in the summer (if we actually get a summer!) I never get very dark. My skin can also get quite dry, especially if I go for too long without moisturising.
This body lotion comes in two varieties, one for fair to medium skin, and one for medium to dark skin. I originally tried the fair to medium one as I felt this best matched my skin tone. It comes in a tall bottle with a flip cap lid which closes securely and doesn't get messy. The lotion comes out as a thick cream and is easy to apply and absorbs well into the skin. At first there is no noticeable difference in colour but after a while I noticed a very subtle change, and felt I had a natural, less pasty-looking colour and even coverage. My skin felt a little sticky at first, but once the lotion had been fully absorbed it felt hydrated and well nourished. After several days use the colour built up and there was a more noticeable difference. I didn't look like I had a summer tan but my skin looked golden and more healthy.
The instructions say to apply it daily and you do need to apply it regularly to maintain the colour, although I didn't put it on every day. I used this product through the winter and stopped in the summer when I'd built up my own tan. I began using it again this winter but when I ran out this time I thought I'd risk the medium to dark variety. I wanted a quicker effect and a darker colour, as I have an upcoming event for which I will be wearing a white dress and don't want to look washed out. The colour was much more noticeable after the first application but still looked natural and not too dark, more like the colour you get if you use the lighter one for a long time. This colour has darkened with subsequent applications and now looks like my natural summer tan. One thing I found using the darker product was that when I was in a rush and particularly careless with one application I did leave a couple of streaks on my legs and back, though these were not very noticeable and easily faded when I showered and exfoliated. One other advantage to using the darker lotion is that I don't need to apply it so often as the colour takes longer to fade, ideal for a forgetful person like myself.
My only small criticism of this product is that is has a fairly strong smell compared to purely moisturising products, although the scent is much nicer and milder than many tanning products, and the smell does linger for a couple of hours. Also, as someone who is always in a rush in the mornings, I find it fairly time consuming to apply evenly and give it time to absorb, which takes longer if your skin is still slightly damp from the shower, but this would be the same for many moisturisers so perhaps I'm being fussy.
I'm not gonna lie; I love my fake tan. My skin is so pale it's see through, and I can go to the hottest place in the world, or go on a sunbed for half an hour, and leave whiter. The only way I get a nice glow is to pop on a coat of fake tan. The average spray tan lasts up to one week, which is why I'm so grateful a product like this was created.
Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion is a 2 in 1 product, not only does it moisturize your skin, but also builds up a natural looking tan. It comes in 2 shades; Fair to Normal and Normal to Dark. I prefer to go for the darker one, as I get a richer colour and I can use it every other day. Every time I have gone to buy this product it's always been on offer from £4.99 to £2.48, but offers and price will vary where you go. I'm happy to buy this product at full price as I use it a lot and it is one of my favorites. I would have liked this product to have an SPF which sadly it does not.
I tend to use this product during the week, when my fake tan starts to fade. I no longer have to go get another spray tan, but can top up the one I already have on. Sometimes I will use this product on its own so the colour can build up which only takes about 2 applications for a rich colour. It's leaves me skin feeling super soft and have a lovely summer smell, and not that nasty fake tan "bad chocolate" small which most leave behind. It dries fairly quickly and you can use it all over your body. At one point they did bring out the same product which was more suited for your face (I'm not sure if it's still out), but to be honest, I put the body one on my face and it's never done me any harm.
The bottle it comes in is tall and has a flip top lid, which is very secure, so I know it won't leak when I put it in my drawer (ha, that rhymed). It's also great people who haven't fake tanned before, as they can get a great glow and not worry about it going streaky or missing bits, as you can just shower then put another coat on so it blends nicely together.
I don't get a lot of time to spend on myself with two children under three and a full time job, so when it comes to multi taking, I am the self appointed queen! A product which moisturises and tans has huge appeal for me and so I was happy to try this summer glow body lotion.
I should add that this year my summer holiday was a mid week trip to York, so I have not got a glorious Carribean tan I'm wishing to elongate. My legs are pretty white and my arms have a light natural amount of colour but I wish I was a bit more tanned without the hassle of spray tans or the danger of the sun's rays.
the Dove lotion comes in a yellow bottle with a flip top lid. A colour strip suggests a gradual build up of tan if you use this product regularly.
Whilst it is recommended that you use this daily, I have to say I don't really get the chance to add daily but I've been trying hard to achieve every other day. I love the gradual colour build up you can achieve with this and it doesn't seem to show the same wear-off you get with a harder or stronger fake tan. The one overwhelming fact of this product though, is the lingering smell you get. It smells badly of a chemical bordering on plastic smell to me and it's one I feel quite conscious of, especially if I am wearing it from head to toe!
I love the results of this product, the colour is great, but the smell is unfortunate and one you just can't get away from and it's hard to mask too. I do think this is a really easy way to tan though and as a multi tasker it is great.
Price and availability
It is worth highlighting that this product is available in fair to normal and medium to dark (I have the former). The price is variable, it seems you can pay anything between £3 and £6 for a 250ml bottle so it is worth shopping around.
I really like the multi tasking properties of this product. I like the results too but because of the smell, I don't think it's one I'd buy again. I have not had any other problems with this body lotion, as someone I work with commented that they have had itchy skin and blocked pores from using these types of product and I have not had this problem. I have not found it possible to build up an unrealistic tan, nor has it made me orange in any way, so for some this may be a bit too subtle if they are after a very tanned look. For me it has been perfect (apart from the smell). I just make sure that I wash my hands straight after use to avoid tanned palms of my hands which are a dead giveaway.
I don't entirely know what it was that made me buy this in the first place to be honest, but I did. It was only £1 in Poundland, and somehow it made it's way into my basket. And then I completely forgot about it and found it in the cupboard several months later (about October time last year was when I rediscovered it).
Upon noticing that it should subtly top up your tan to give you a "summer glow" as the bottle states, I figured 'Oh, why not give it a go!' even though I'm not one to be particularly tanned anyway. It also specified that it would moisturize at the same time, which is always a bonus considering I do tend to suffer from dry skin, particularly on my arms and hands.
The lotion itself is a yellow sort of colour, which I suppose is what you should expect from a product that should tan? I don't really know, considering that this is the only one I've ever used. It seemed like it should be yellow in my mind though. The scent reminded me of biscuits, which I thought was a bit strange really, but I suppose it has to smell of something.
The bottle states that you should apply it in circular motions daily in order to get an even coverage, so this was what I did, trying to make sure I hadn't missed any areas. It seemed to look alright once I was finished, and thankfully it didn't seem to make me look orange (apart from on my knees - not entirely sure why this was though - I just took to putting a lot less on my knees!).
It did seem to be a bit on the greasy side when I applied it, and seemed to take quite some time to absorb, which is a shame really because it means you can't just sling some clothes on over the top of it and expect it to stay there. I'd say it took about fifteen minutes to feel like it had been entirely absorbed. I didn't notice it coming off at all though after I had showered, which is definitely a good thing. I half expected getting it wet to mean it would just come straight off, or leave blotches of it on, but it didn't really seem to do this at all.
Continuing to apply this did seem to keep my 'tan' looking alright, although once it came to December time I did end up not using it anymore because I bought a bottle of my favorite Nivea creme instead and I sort of ended up substituting it with Nivea instead (not a tanning one though, just an ordinary one).
It did moisturize my skin fairly well, although I would have to say that the Nivea creme I use does a better job, which is the main reason that I have knocked one star off my rating. If you're looking for this to tan rather than to moisturize though, then it's a decent product. I simply didn't find it moisturizing enough for me.
When I had stopped using it, I noticed that it didn't take long for the 'tan' to disappear and I looked a lot whiter! It worked, that's the main thing.
I would recommend this to people, although I doubt I would personally buy it again because tanning isn't something that I tend to do a lot of, so for me it's basically like buying an additional product I don't need. If it's something you do a lot of though, then I'd definitely recommend it for you!
(Note: The sun protection factor I really have no idea about. I no longer have the bottle. I don't recall it having any SPF at all, though, but I may be wrong!)
I nearly always use some sort of fake tan, especially during the summer months when everyone else is nicely glowing and I am sitting there either looking completely anaemic or lobster red. I never go brown - ever! I have very pale skin, blue eyes and fair hair and I have to be really very careful in the sun. However, I also kike to wear my long floaty summer dresses and short sleeved tops in the summer, just like everyone else, but I don't like to stick out like a sore thumb, either, by looking really white and pasty.
I love Dove products and everything I have ever used, right across the range I always loved and rated very highly. I use Dove Summer Glow Nourishing Lotion for Fair to Medium Skin tones. They also make this for darker skin tones but as I am virtually transparent, I have to go for the lightest one possible.
I love to use this lotion, not only does it give me a healthy glowing natural looking tan, but it also smells great and moisturises and tones my skin at the same time. I use this every other day to maintain the colour and though it says on the bottle to use this for five consecutive days to build up a light and natural looking tan, I actually find that it's already given me the colour I want and need after just one application. Maybe this is due to the fact that I am so pale, however, and not everyone will get the same results as I do.
It blends like a dream and doesn't have that awful fake tan smell which is so common with these types of fake tanning lotions. It's quite thick in consistency but it absorbs really well into my skin and as it's so thick, it never drops out of the hole underneath the flip top lid and I really have to turn the bottle completely upside down in order to get any out.
I buy two bottles at a tine as they are usually on offer for five pounds. Each bottle contains 250g of cream and so they last me for ages. I use this lovely lotion all over my body but not on my face and it gives me the exact colour tone I am after. I don't think the colour looks fake or orange at all, it just looks really light and natural.
I would recommend this if you are after a nice natural looking golden glow, rather than an all out brown tan. It works so well as a moisturiser, apart from anything else and it really leaves my skin feeling lovely and soft and sloth with regular use.
The recent spell of warm weather meant I was out and about a lot more enjoying the nice summery weather, but I was a bit worried about my light pale skin being on display and therefore the body lotion self tanners seemed like a great idea and off to Asda I went to find one to try.
== Price ==
During my weekly shop at Asda I was on a look out for a good body lotion self tanner and there were a few to choose from, but I decided to get the Dove Summer Glow Nourishing Lotion Fair to Medium Skin as it was on offer at the time two for £5, plus I have always been a big fan of Dove products.
The Dove Summer Glow Nourishing Lotion also has a version for medium to dark skin users which is also priced at £5 for two.
== My Experience ==
The 250ml bottle itself is long and thin and coloured in a light brown colour. It has a flip open lid that has a centre hole that allows the lotion to easily come out. The hole is nice and small allowing extra control over the amount I wanted to squeeze out, as I strongly dislike bottles with big open holes that manages waste a lot of lotion even with light squeezing. The attached lid also reduces any risk of leakage or over spillage and therefore reducing and wasted residue.
The Dove logo is clearly visible on the front top half of the bottle, as well as the name of the product printed just below. The bottle is easy to hold thanks to its curvy design near the centre of the bottle, which allowed me to form a good grip while dispensing the lotion and hence providing me more control over the amount I wished to use.
The bottle states that you should apply the lotion every day for five days to help build a glowing light tan. I personally found the lotion to have the same sort of texture and consistency to a normal bottled moisturiser but thankfully was not too watery like the cheaper branded moisturisers.
Once squeezed into the hand I was greeted by a nice pale brown coloured lotion that was very easy to apply and rub evenly around my body. It was easy to spread around and absorbed fairly quickly into my skin, just like a good quality body lotion. I was happy to find that absorbs into the skin completely without leaving any colour deposits behind.
My skin felt a little cold and damp after applying the lotion which was expected, but it only lasted a couple of minutes. In terms of results I found that after using it a couple of times I could definitely feel my skin feel more softer and it looked more refreshed as well as having a nice glow to it.
I would say it leaves a light glowing look rather than a full out tan, which is what I was after. It gave my light skin some colour and made it feel and look softer too. The scent of the lotion is not too strong, but a little lingering scent of chemicals could be smelt, however it was not a huge problem as it was not that noticeable.
== Verdict ==
Overall I found this product to do exactly what I wanted to to do without having to use a all out tanning lotion. It made my skin glow a nice light brown colour and at the same time moisturised my skin. The only slight down side is that if the item was not on offer £5 for one bottle is quite steep for me personally, but the quality of the lotion does make up for the price tag.
I would therefore recommend this Dove lotion tanner and would give it a good 4 stars, and only loses a star due to the price tag.
I absolutely love this fake tan, it's one of the few fake tans I come back to time after time. Unlike traditional fake tanners like St Tropez or the knock off version St Moriz, this provides a gradual tan which can be built up and is moisturising. It is also very reasonable and gives me a very natural looking tan. It develops as a slightly yellow colour, not orange in the slightest, very similar to the colour I naturally go in the sun.
This is the only bit of this product that I feel lets it down. It does not immediately jump out at you on the shelf, and I actually find the packaging to be aimed at an older market, even though I know this is a popular product amongst people in their teens and 20s. However, it is functional and the squeezy bottle makes it easy to get the last bit of product out of the bottle.
This is the best bit of the product. I always apply it using a fake tan mitt so I don't end up with tanned palms and I found that it has never streaked. After one day I look like I have a more healthy glow and after two days I have a sunkissed, natural looking tan, which makes me look like I have spent 2 weeks on a sunny holiday. After that I apply it every other day to keep up the colour. I find that it is very moisturising and actually feels good for my skin.
This usually retails for around £5, but I have found that there are often offers on it, making it even better value for money. A bottle will normally last me 2-3 months, so it works out very good value for money.
Overall, this is a great product that I have recommended to friends. I think it's difficult to go wrong with it and you can build up the tan over a number of days so you're not too dark after one application.
I always used to use the 'proper' self tanning products, however I now find that the body lotion 'gradual' self tanning products are actually much better suited to my skin tone; very pale and with tonnes of freckles. I've tried quite a few of the different branded versions of the body lotion self tanners, however one that I hadn't tried until just recently was the Dove version. I'm not a huge fan of Dove products in general, and so that's why I steered clear of this one until now.
The only reason I ended up buying the Dove version, is that is was on offer at half price in Boots. It's actually called Dove Summer Glow Nourishing Lotion, and it comes in two varieties; fair to medium skin, and medium to dark skin. I bought the fair to medium skin version. It was on offer at £2.49, from the regular price of £4.99 for a 250ml bottle. The bottle proudly proclaims that it's the ''No. 1 gradual self tan body lotion in the UK''.
It comes in a tall slim bottle, shaped just like the regular Dove body lotion bottles, only the bottle is a very pale brown colour as opposed to white. The writing on the front of the bottle is a dark brown for the medium to dark skin version, and a light brown for the light to medium skin version. The bottle has a flip top cap with a hole in the centre to squeeze to lotion out, and the lotion squeezes out easily with just a gentle squeeze on the bottle. Once you are getting towards the end of the bottle then you can stand it upside down on its cap end so that the remaining lotion will settle at the cap end and enable you to squeeze it out easily without having to bang or shake the bottle.
The lotion itself is quite a thick lotion, much more like a cream I would say, and it's a very pale brown colour. Once you start to rub it into your skin it disappears into your skin completely though so the brown colour of the lotion doesn't help you with an even application at all. To be honest you don't need it to though as the lotion is very easy to rub in and apply evenly all over. It's just like rubbing in a thick body lotion. I find that it spreads very easily over my skin and rubs in very easily, it disappears into my skin completely and doesn't leave any residue behind. I do find that my skin is ever so slightly tacky for 5 minutes or so after applying this, but it does dry if I just wait it out.
This is fairly moisturising, as well as being a self tanner. I've not had dry skin at all whilst using this, it basically does the job of a moisturiser whilst also gradually tanning my skin.
This doesn't have that 'fake tan' smell at all, either in the bottle or when you've rubbed it into your skin. It's just got a very generic body lotion fragrance. It does start to take on that 'biscuity' fake tan smell when it's been on your skin for a little while though, it's not as overpowering as some fake tanning products can be, but its definitely there. I personally wouldn't apply this in the morning as the 'biscuity' smell that comes from this a little while later would be very offputting. I apply this after a shower or a bath before going to bed, and then I shower again in the morning. When I'm showering in the morning then I can see that the water running off my skin is tinted brown.
This hasn't stained any of my clothes, well I guess it's only my pj's! And it also hasn't stained my white bed sheets at all. I can find that sometimes when I'm towelling my skin the following morning after showering that I can end up with brown fake tan marks on my towels, these do come out easily in the wash though.
I do only use this on my legs, and it gives them a very subtle and natural golden glow. I've got absolutely pure white skin, literally the colour of my white bed sheets, and this just gives my skin a very subtle natural golden brown colour. It doesn't look like my skin is tanned at all, it just takes away that blinding white colour and replaces it with a subtle hint of natural colour. That's perfect for me as I don't want to look 'tanned' as such, I just don't want to blind anyone with the whiteness of my bare legs! It does take a few applications to get to the golden glow, it's definitely a gradual process. I find that I get the perfect colour after about 3 days, I then have a couple of days off, and then apply again for 2-3 days, then a couple of days off, etc - you get the drift.
Like most fake tans this will collect and go a bit orangey in certain areas, I find that my heels/ankles and around the edges of my feet are affected by this. To combat this I just apply a regular body lotion to the tops of my feet, with quite a thick layer on the crinkly bit at my heels, and then I apply the self tanner as normal. This then ensures that those orangey bits are kept at bay. I don't find that this stains my palms at all, I obviously wash my hands immediately after applying the self tan, and I've had no orange palm problems.
I'll definitely buy this again, as I've been impressed with it. In fact I'm probably going to pick up another while its still half price.
I bought this product from Wilkinsons where it was recently on offer at £2.30. It's usual retail price is £4.99 although I have seen it on offer in several stores such as Tescos and also see it regularly on ebay for much cheaper (especially if you buy in bulk). In order to get a decent colour (I have VERY pale skin!) I had to use a lot of this product. Generally in order to maintain a gradual tan I have had to use the moisturiser every other day and this usually works out at approximately one bottle per week. Whilst this sounds excessive - at the price of £2.30 it's definitely cheaper than having a weekly spray tan.
The product comes in a brown colour bottle. Whilst it's not per se attractive it is instantly distinguishable from the ordinary dove moisturiser which usually comes in a white bottle. The colour guide on the bottom also means both shade (fair to medium and medium to dark) are easily distinguishable also.
Application of product is fairly easy, although as it's a gradual tanner if bits are missed (and you are very pale like me!) this is very noticeable. It's always helpful therefore to have a helping hand for those hard to reach places. I did also find the product took a long time to dry and whist this is ok during nice weather this can be a pain in the winter months when it's colder. Also, as I tend to put a thick layer on it may take longer to dry - perhaps using a thinner layer over every day (as oppose to a thick layer every other day) may be better. As I tend to put the product on before bed (so it can develop overnight) I have also noticed (only occasionally) some very slight stains on my bed covers although these wash out very easily.
This product is very moisturising! I have used it regularly over a period of 6 months and seen a noticeable improvement in the condition of my skin which is extremely soft! Another big plus is that even if application is messy there is not streaking to this product although I strongly recommend regular ex-foliation and also shaving legs before application. I have found shaving legs too soon after first application has resulted in 'white spots' appearing on legs.
Despite the downsides to this product (long drying time, need for regular application, some staining - biscuit like smell!) it is still by far the best gradual tanning moisturiser I have used on the market today. This product does genuinely build a natural looking subtle tan that I've never achieved through fake tanning.
I just wanted to add another annoying trait about using this product. It is so difficult to get all the product out of the bottle to the point where I have cut open bottles only to find that therefore another 3 or 4 applications inside which is really disappointing especially as the plastic is hard to cut into and the product dries out when exposed to air.I have bought plastic container from boots to keep all the wasted product.
I've never been much of a person for tanning- I have very fair skin and dark hair so I usually just stay pale or go red in the sun (yes, even with factor 30). But my mum (yes, her again!) gave me a bottle of this because she stocked up on them when she went on holiday, as she found them for £1.99 instead of the usual £3+ that they usually go for (so I'm told)
This product comes in a pale yellow bottle, and I have the fair to medium skin version. This is also the version with "soft shimmer", described on the bottle as "light reflecting particles", which basically means glitter. A lot of glitter, to be honest, although it's only tiny particles, so it's not really overbearing or anything.
This bottle sat in my cupboard for ages, because I'm not really that bothered about having a tan, real or fake. Like I said, naturally pale so I've always thought I'd look kinda odd with a tan. However, having run out of moisturiser, I unearthed this in my bathroom cabinet and I've been using it all week- the joys of being caught a week before payday with no other moisturiser I guess!
Well, the first thing I noticed was the smell. It's very difficult to describe- it's quite fresh-scented, but at the same time it smells slightly warm and homely- like baking or something. It's really nice though, just hard to put into words.
The next thing I noticed was that I didn't need nearly as much moisturiser as I usually use, and this was before the tanning effect took hold. It was absorbed by my skin really quickly, and I found that if I used too much of it, I sparkled rather a lot. But most of the glitter comes off quite easily with a dry towel or facecloth once the product has been completely absorbed.
I've used this product every day since Saturday, and it's Friday today, and I do notice a difference as my skin does look slightly tanned. I'm just glad I didn't go orange (as happened when I tried a different brand of tanning moisturiser many years ago). My knees and elbows looked slightly orangey on the first day, but I think that was more my technique of application than the actual product. Luckily, this went away with liberal use of body scrub and a bath scrunchie.
Overall, I think that this is an excellent product for those with very pale skin, who would like to look slightly more tanned. I'm not sure how well it would work on those with less pale skin than mine.
