I was a fake-tan virgin when I tried this and was instantly attracted to it because it was clear and I thought I couldn't go wrong.
The packaging is very sleek and minimalist. The spray pump is incredibly easy to use and fortunately doesn't get clogged. It isn't very sturdy or durable so you have to be careful not to bash the bottle around too much. However, I found that it sprayed well and evenly. It is a bit difficult to spray upside down so it's useful to have someone else help you apply it.
The spray itself is colourless and fragranceless. This is good as I cannot stand the horrible smell that self-tanners usually have.
It sprays a very fine mist over small areas of your body. You do have to rub it in with your hands aswell which is a bit annoying but otherwise it goes patchy. It dries in seconds which means you dont have to hang around waiting for it to try for ages- very handy. It didn't feel at all sticky on your skin which is nice, and it left your skin feeling refreshed and ready to go.
The colour develops over time, the bottle says around 3 hours but I have found it takes a little longer. The colour that you get is gorgeous, very natural and radiant. It didn't look at all orange and I was very pleased with the result. I did, however, apply it appallingly, and therefore it was patchy and streaky. I think this is just because I am very inexperienced in fake tanning. As you cannot see where you have sprayed it, it's difficult to know what you have done and what you haven't.
For someone who is experienced with fake tan, this would be a godsend. The lovely colour and easy application make it a dream to use. However, if you need more practice with fake tan, this isn't for you.
This product really works. I have had the best all over tan ever with this product, it even helps parts of the body which do not tan easily.I would not go on holiday without it.I would recommend this product to anyone fantastic. Thank you shimmerfx for not letting me down and delivering it to me so quick!!!!
Having auburn hair & a fairly pale skin means that the sun & I don't really get on too well. I don't have the time to sunbathe & am well aware of the potential dangers of harmful sun rays & I don't need any more wrinkles thankyou - so I usually opt for fake tan products.
I must have tried dozens over the years with varying degrees of success. Some self-tan products smell dreadful, others made me look like a pot of orange marmalade whilst others streaked. I always follow the directions carefully but rarely seem to get the result I want - ie a natural-looking streakless all-over colour.
It's important to exfoliate before & moisturise afterwards (shopping TV always give good presentations & some products send a DVD as well as giving clear writen instructions).
I ordered some of this Ecotan from QVC last year - it came as a set which included the exfoliator, spray mist & aftersun plus clear guidelines on how to use them all.
I did exactly as told but I have to say it wasn't worth the £30 I spent on all 3 products.
I found the spray nozzle difficult to use as it kept 'freezing' & was stiff to press although I was still trying to pump it out which meant that some parts of my forearm/ legs were sprayed twice but other parts weren't touched by the mist.
I also wasn't overkeen on the smell - it wasn't as strong as some fake tans but enough to let other people know you've 'cheated'.
Once dried (a couple of minutes) I was pleased that the colour hadn't come off on my clothes & I didn't feel sticky.
After about 4 hours the colour started to come through & I must admit I thought the shade was really natural but saw where I'd missed bits even though I'd moisturised really carefully & thought I'd done a terrific job - ha!
I think that fake tan products work differently on different skin types & colour - I have mixed opinions on Ecotan - my main problem was the pump action so it may work better if someone could apply it for me next time?
- not cheap - around £12 per bottle.
- nice colour.
- not too strong a smell of fake tan.
- I found the pump action tricky to use.
- not the best nor the worst fake tan product I've used.
I run a small beauty salon in Cardiff called True Beauty. I love EcoTan and use it as a professional solution for customers. It offers better results than all of the leading salon brands at a fraction of the price.EcoTan is made in Wales by Richards and Appleby. I buy it from their preferred ecommerce supplier http://www.beauty2u.com who stock and ship the same day.
I think Ecotan is great think.
It does take a few attempts getting used to though.
I personnally shower and exfoliate then when dry i spray one coat on wait for that to dry then spray another without rubbing in, then i wait about 5 mins then i moisturise over it this to smooth it out and rub it in gently that way i find it goes on more even as the odd time you get a little blob patch.
It gives a nice golden colour i am very pale and it`s not to dark for me cos you can just build the colour up like the gradual moisturisers you can buy.
Over the years I have tried a fair few fake tans - one of these is Ecotan.
This can take a little while to get the hang of but once you do it is amazing and one of the better self tanning products I have tried. It doesn't mark clothes and dries in minutes.
I got my ecotan from http://www.salonlines.co.uk/self-tanning-lotions/eco-tan/ for £17.95 for 2 500ml bottles of the Ecotan classic tan spray. (They are £11.95 for a single bottle).
As with all fake tans the best way to apply is after a shower, having exfoliated and moisturised. my routine when putting on the fake tan is shower and exfoliate, towel dry and moisturise. Wait about half and hour for it to soak in. Spray away! Smooth it in and wash hands.
The spray is colourless and so it is a little hard to tell where you have already been, however this makes it much easier to get to those hard to reach areas like your back.
The colour is long lasting and even, it does tend to show the next morning and so results aren't instant.
Each bottle has lasted me about 7-8 weeks.
Ecotan is definately my favourite but it does take a while to get the hang of it. When I first bought it (from qvc) I watched the demo thinking that is too easy, and yes it was. I used to just spray a mist and wait, but the results weren't that fantastic, although the colour is excellent.
I don't tan that easy and so have used everything and Ecotan is by far the best. It dosn't mark your clothes and dries in minutes which is a huge bonus.
I normally shower and exfoliate. Moisturise, but not really heavily, paying extra attention to the dry bits. I wait for at least an hour before applying as I find the moisturiser dilutes the solution, then I stand on a towel and spritz away. I then smooth it in lightly, it is so light that it dries so quickly. I don't use gloves so you have to make sure you wash your hands, or have some baby wipes handy.
For my feet I put extra cream on them and on my ankles and spray really lightly and then almost brush it off.
For my hands (which I do last) i wash them thoroughly and spray once on each hand and then out some moisturiser on the backs of my hands and rub my hands on top of each other so that the palms don't get tan on.
To make sure the soles of your feet don't turn orange I turn the towel over every time I move so I am not standing on the lotion.
Everybody comments on my tan, even though it is not really dark, it is easy to darken it by applying more the next day.
It is so easy to do it before you go to bed and dosn't mark your sheets!!!
Qvc is cheap but Ebay is cheaper and you don't get ripped off my huge delivery charges - happy tanning.
I have used a lot of fake tan, and found this one to be great.
I purchased the Ecotan off QVC for only £12.00, for a 200ml bottle which is a good price for a tan of this standard.
As with all tans I exfoliated all over and applied moisturiser to areas with dry skin. I then held the bottle around 30cm (12in) away from body and sprayed.
The tan comes out in a mist and is colourless. I found it very easy to use as it is just a simple spray action. Even on my back, all you have to do is bend forward a bit holding the bottle above your head and spray and was able to do back of hands without having to touch the product.
It takes around 5 hours to develop and has no noticable fragrance which is an advantage if you want to apply before the morning.
I found the colour to be very even and lasted very well.
The 200ml size bottle lasted for around 2 months appling once a week.
I decided to give this product a try as QVC raves about it constantly and with a price of £12 a bottle (200ml), I thought it was worth a go. It comes in a spray bottle. The first time I used this (after exfoliating), I stood on a towel and sprayed away. I shuffled around on my towel and managed to contort myself into various positions to obtain full coverage. I waited about 10 mins for it to fully dry, then moisturised myself from head to toe. (Very important for making sure it's all nicely evened out). I then went to sleep. The next morning on waking up, I was generally very pleased with the colour, it wasn't so much a tan as a nice sun kissed look. It generally made me look healthier. However, on looking at my palms I noticed that they were bright orange, and so were the soles of my feet. Very embarrassing. Well ok, I can live without being able to move my feet while I'm spraying, but then can someone please tell me how you combat the problem with your hands? I mean, you've got to massage your body lotion on after you spray, it doesn't seem to matter how long you wait (tried it again, waited a little longer!) the spray will, inevitably be transferred to the palms of your hands. If you wash them, you just wash the spray off the backs of your hands. And have you ever tried to wash just your palms? I tried damp cotton wool, just on the palms, that doesn't work either! Tried giving the backs of my hands an extra spray after washing my palms, but as I couldn't then moisturise them, the next moring they were patchy in places. So, in conclusion, I've basically given up using it on my body, I now just use it on my face and shoulders to obtain a healthy glow - for which, it is really good, it's just not a great way to apply an all over body tan. I do still use my bottle, it's lasted about 5 months and I'm halfway through it. I'll probably use up the bottle but will not be buying it ag
ain. Too much hassel for something a tinted moisturiser would give me.
I'd seen this on QVC for quite a while and in August finally plucked up the courage to by one when I saw it on Ebay (A snip at £8!). At first I was reluctant to try it and it just sat on my dressing table. I am oh-so-pale and most self tan products make me orange, streaky or both. I'd seen this so often on QVC about how easy it was to use that I finally took the brave step of preparing my skin and I exfoliated to the extreme!! I patted myself dry, then sprayed the EcoTan - it says 12" on the bottle, but this can be difficult so I didn't worry at being only 6" away at times. You can feel the spray 'landing' so you roughly know which bits you've covered and which you haven't. You should only allow a fine spray to cover you, if you do end up with 'pools of liquid' on you - don't touch it!! If you do, it's obvious when the product develops. To prevent big patchy brown bits it is best to moisturise afterwards... On the bottle it says allow to dry naturally and doesn't mention moisturising, however the presenters on QVC say DO moisturise, and I agree with them. Once the product is dry to the touch you can do anything - get dressed, laze about, go shopping, go to work, whatever - I recommended moisturising once the product is dry to the touch, especially if you are pale, this will prevent any streaky bits or orange elbows and knees!! I usually use Nivea soft, but your normal body cream will be fine (though I have noticed some with essential oils in stop the tan developing as well). he first time I used this product I didn't moisturise and there were some 'obvious' tanned bits - fet and arms. It is best to build up your tan over a few days with this product as it gives a very natural look - I often top-up my face after cleansing an toning, then moisturise afterwards. I am very happy to use this product on my face - it doesn't smell too bad and it
is gentle, quick and easy. This product does not stain bath suites and does not come off on clothes (like most self tans!). It also fades naturally like a 'real' tan (just a little quicker), so is great as a pre or post-holiday tan. It is a little more that I expect to pay for a self-tan (£12 + p&p from QVC), but the bottle lasts ages as it is such a fine spray and it is so natural that I think it is worth it.
I know some people swear by this product, so when I saw it on QVC shopping channel last year, I thought they made this false tan spray look so easy, even I could do it!! Even though the price was £26.00, I thought I would splash out as you got free shower gel, exfoliator and body lotion with it as a package. Iam very pale and have tried several products, I always follow the instructions on the bottles, but somehow I end up looking like the Bisto Kid. Not this time I thought, they make it look easy peesy. I was prepared to give it a go then people would stop calling me Milk Bottle. The first time I applied Eco Tan I exfoliated first, then moisturised just like on the TV. Then I applied the product by holding it 12 inches away from my skin. Then I gave a quick blast to my legs and watched it all trickle down my legs. I hardly let any out, I didn't rub it in as the instructions told you not to. Then I waited for four hours or so. I tried to keep still, I thought this was going to be the best false tan application ever!! After the four hours were up, I looked in the mirror and saw the gravy browning in all the crevices of my legs, ie behind my knee caps were all streaky, round my ankles.I showed all my work mates and they took the mickey out of me all day. It took me days to get rid of it, I had applied it to my face as well, and looked like an overipe pumpkin. I daren't look my customers at the time in the face, I was convinced they were laughing at me. I've no complaint over the other products, in fact I still use the body lotion, it lasts ages. My neighbour has returned hers and so has about three people I know. Me I just sold it at a car boot sale for £2.00, I never thought to return it. If I see someone looking streaky I will hide in case it was mine she bought. I don't want kids following her calling her the Bisto Kid.
The first few rays of spring sunshine and we decide to bare our arms and legs and get a tan. But what do we find pasty, white, blue veined rough skin. Time to give your body a self tan treatment. I first tried this tan last year persuaded by the QVC presenters that this was the easiest method available. Was it, not at first, I do recommend that you practice a little first while you can still cover up with long trousers. I think the main problem I had was judging the twelve inches (30 cms) to hold the bottle from the body. My first attempt I did spray a bit too much and had a couple of runs on the ankles. After that I got the hang of it and I am pleased with the results. I only use the spray on my body, it can be used on the face, but I don't like spraying my face and I think creams last longer on the facial area. Like all fake tans you follow the basic rules exfoliate first and put moisturiser on any rough dry areas like elbows and knees. With this one you spray it on, let it dry which only takes a couple of minutes then massage in a moisturiser or body lotion. The knack seems to be keeping the bottle at least 30 cms from you and not overspraying so that your skin is dripping wet. You just want your skin to feel slightly damp. The advantage with this product and method is that you can cover larger areas quickly and get dressed more or less straight away. A couple of hints went using it are.. Be careful not to spray it directly onto your furnishing fabrics, stand on a towel or in the bath(not filled of course). Don't spray directly onto your knees, elbows or feet just massage over them when you moisturise. Using this product and folowing these rules I can confidently bare my arms and legs when the sun first peeks through. This is not a very intensive tan it gives you a light golden colour with one coat. If you want a darker finish apply daily for 3 or
4 days to build up the intensity. I find the gently fades over a few days, so I top it up about twice a week. One word of warning it does not give you sun protection so do use a protective lotion when you are out in the sun. I bought a duo pack of this from QVC 2X200ml bottles last year and I still have some left in the first bottle. So it does seem to last a long time. The cost of the pack was £24.00 which seems steep at first, but if it lasts me two years I think that's a reasonable investment. I haven't seen it in the shops, but as I say you can get it from QVC either on Sky TV,or cable and the web qvcuk.com.
Lots of people are wary of using fake tans for fear of looking like a reject from a cheap 70s made-for-TV movie or getting tell-tale 'tide marks' around heels and backs. Eco tan is, however, virtually fool-proof and is the fake tan I always use if I'm short on time or want something quick and very easy. It's a clear liquid in a spray bottle, and the very fine mist spray is a big part of what makes this so very easy to use, especially if you hold the bottle a good distance away and spray the lightest mist on the area you want to tan. As with any fake tan you need to exfoliate and moisturise first, and if you're at all worried about those tide marks you can apply another layer of body lotion after spraying, which means any 'mistakes' will be blended in. Do cover anything (hair, towels etc) you don't want to be dyed by the spray though! (this is especially important for blondes) The colour is a 'medium' shade, suitable for most skins. Very pale skins can make it a lighter, more natural tone, by 'diluting' it with moisturiser as above. If you want a deeper shade you can just add another squirt the next day. In fact, that's one of the real bonuses of this product, it's so very easy to just top-up a tan (real or fake) with a quick spray. I also find that this lasts on the skin better than some brands; about five days for me, although that will vary a little. Smell is a problem for some people and this product definitely doesn't have the 'burnt biscuit' smell that's often associated with self-tanners. In fact, it really doesn't smell of anything at all This is also one of the best for oily skins, which may find many of the creams too greasy; it's absolutely oil and 'gunk' free, which is another reason I really like to use this in the summer
Spray tans have appeared in various product ranges lately, but as far as I'm aware, this was one of the originals, and best. It remains one of the most useful today, not least because it's so very easy to use. The spray mist is very fine, which means that tanning backs and other hard to reach areas suddenly becomes possible. Also, because it's a clear, very lightweight liquid, it's great for those of us with oilier skins who don't appreciate the moisturising properties of other brands. The colour is just a little bit darker than I would like personally. But it would be great for those with, say, medium toned skins (as opposed to being as exceptionally pale as I am)
We all know about the dangers of sunbathing, the increased risk of skin cancers without the right sort of high factor sun protection creams. But why use the sun when you can apply a self-tanning cream, gel or spray which doesn’t harm the skin, nor give you a nasty case of sunburn? And you can have a very natural looking tan within hours if you choose the right product. EcoTan is such a product, and one of the best I have personally tried. It’s a fine spray rather than a cream which makes application that much easier and no stained hands! A clear liquid housed in a rather unexciting clear plastic bottle but the results are very pleasing. As with any self-tan product, it is always advisable to completely exfoliate your skin first to remove any dry skin cells, which absorb the colour considerably more giving you those nasty orange patches. Always pay particular attention to elbows and knees, as the skin there is normally much drier. Once you’re happy that your skin is silky smooth and even, then apply the product by spraying lightly and evenly from about twelve inches away. Make sure the application has fully dried before getting dressed, or you could end up with some very nasty staining to your clothes. And it’s best to use a good body lotion after application which will help you to get better and more even results, plus keep the skin moisturised so that your tans lasts longer and doesn’t streak. 4 to 6 hours after application, you should be sporting a soft and even light gold tan, the depth of which depends on your own skin tone so is very natural looking. You can repeat the application for a darker look every day or every other day, but most of us need only reapply once every 4 to 5 days to top up. The tan is completely waterproof and will not wash off, nor does it streak if you prepare your skin thoroughly and follow the instructions carefully. It also lasts for a decent length of time, up to a week for most
users. During the winter months, I always look very pale and ghostlike but have found that if I spray a little into my daily moisturiser and use every day on my face and neck, I have a nice gentle healthy glow to my skin without sporting a tan as such. It certainly makes me look better anyway! Overall, this is an excellent sunless tanning product that gives very natural results without any risks of skin cancers or burns. The one disadvantage is the smell, like so many other products of this kind; it does give off a rather unpleasant chemical odour, but is certainly not as strong as others I have tried. And it does wear off within hours and is masked by your favourite scent, aftershave or body lotion. I really recommend this one, pale looking ghost like peeps like me depend on it! :O)
