Elemis Total Glow Self tanning cream is brilliant. I have been using this product for about a month and have never had my usual pale-ish to medium skin tone since, i am now a gorgeous shade of brown which looks very natural. It lasts a few days and goes on easily and as it is clear it won't stain your sheets(if your like me and hate waiting around for your colour to develop so you sleep on it), and it comes in a stylish gold tube. The rules are the same as with any self tan apply to the body using long strokes and to the face and neck using the fingertips and apply sparingly to knees, elbows and knuckles. I now only would conside using this fake tan as it gives the best colour and i personally think that it is much better than one of these over-rated self tans that have been a real disappiont and waste of money after id tried them. I recommend you stock up on this product and i hope it works just as well for you.

        Disadvantages

We all know that sun bathing is bad for you. You can open a magazine this time of year without reading about the sun's damaging effects or the story of someone's battle with skin cancer. The problem is that a tan looks so healthy. You feel better with golden skin than pasty white, not to mention looking slimmer. Let's face it, although Nicole Kidman and Winona Ryder are very beautiful with their pale, ethereal skin, most of us want to go on holiday and come back with the tanned, toned skin of Pamela Anderson or Salma Hayek. Nobody wants to go abroad and come back looking the same as when they went do they? So lot's of the big beauty corporations have spent millions of pounds developing new 'Fake Tanning lotions'. Gone are the bad old days of looking like you'd been 'tangoed' i.e. orange (hopefully!) and you can pick and choose from a whole host of different products on the market. The best that I have found so far (and I've tried a lot!) other than going to a salon for a professional treatment is by Elemis. Although I don't recommended all their products (see my other op on the milk bath) this is by far the nicest and most even colour I have used. As with all fake tans it is best to exfoliate before hand and apply the product to clean skin. I would start with the feet and work your way up. It is difficult to know how much to apply - too little and you will get 'streaks' of colour, too much and your tan will look unnatural (for a first application it is better to use less and do a second coat the next day, building up the colour gradually). Depending on your size and height a fifty pence piece size should be enough for both legs and a ten pence coin sized blob should be enough for an arm - but use your own judgement, you want enough that your body feels moisturised but not so much that there is product left on your skin that has not sunk in. I advise massaging it into the
skin thoroughly to get an even coverage. The Elemis lotion is clear and has a very faint scent of moisturiser (nothing unpleasant). It costs around twenty pounds if you buy it from a beauty salon or department store, but you can get it cheaper or in a set with other sun products such as anti wrinkle sun screen spf 25 and tan accelerator from QVC. The product comes in a stylish gold tube that looks expensive and flashy (for those of you that care about that type of thing!) and will not look out of place in the ritziest of health clubs. The effect is a week in Greece rather than two weeks in the Caribbean and is perfect if you are going away and don't want to look like a newly arrived tourist for your first day on the beach. If you are not going on holiday then at least you've got that 'just got back from Ibiza look and you won't feel like the odd one out! If you are a teenager who is going away without their parents then it is perfect for when you say "Yes of course I spent more time on the beach than in the clubs!!" All in all, perfect for everyone, and not a skin damaging UVB ray in sight!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Why go to the expense of using a cream when you can tan in the garden for free? Well the main danger is skin cancer the next is wrinkles and although we may think we will never get the former once over 25 we all worry about the latter. I have a skin that does tan fairly easily but I don't want my skin to look like a piece of distressed leather by the time I am 40. I do not use Elemis fake tan exclusively but it is one of my favourites to use on the face and neck. This is because it doesn't streak and gives a nice natural colour. I would say this product gives you a medium effect in one coat and if you want a deeper Carribean tan you can build up two or three coats over a couple of days. I only use a cream on my face preferring a spray to do my body, I do find the creams last longer than sprays on the face. One coat on average takes a few days to fade. Another cosideration is that my facial skin is sensitive to some products but the Elemis self tan does not cause any itching or red skin in my case. The important thing when applying any fake tan is to do it properly. Take your time , exfoliate using a gentle scrub or peel first. Elemis then recommend that you moisturise first with their particular product. I find it is best to use a scrub or peel followed by moisturiser, about an hour before I apply the tan. Start applying the cream in the centre of the face(where the sun would naturally catch) and blend out to the neck and ears, don't forget to drag a little to the sides and back of your neck. If you are fair or grey cover your hairline to avoid orange roots and rub through your eyebrows with a piece of tissue or cotton wool in case there is a build-up. Give it at least an hour to sink in before you do anything else to your face, and be careful if you have a drink, a white circle around the mouth is not attractive. The other reason that people avoid self tan apart from oran
ge streaks is the smell but this brand does not smell strong or unpleasant. The best time of day to do this. Well it doesn't matter too much. If you do it in the morning it's best not to try and apply any make-up for at least a couple of hours. At night, just give it a good hour to sink in before you go to bed. I shall carry on faking it.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

By far the best self tanning product I have used so far. As I have very fair skin which is prone to burning and hard to tan and a high concentration of moles, I prefer to use self tan than sitting in the sun all day or using the curse of the devil, namely sunbeds. I used this a few days before going away on holidays and found it extremely easy to apply and took only a few hours for the colour to develop fully. The resulting colour was not the usual vivid orange of many inferior brands, but gave a gorgeous and natural looking 'glow' rather than a block colour. Of course, if you find the colour too subtle you can build up layers of colour. I would recommend using the Elemis body care range to cleanse, exfoliate and moisturise before using the fake tan, as all of the products are lovely and very good quality (especially the milk bath and devils mint exfoliator, yum!).

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

It works well, not streaky, not orange but you do have a very sticky feeling for over an hour after applying. It felt very uncomfortable, but I am happy with the overall result. Make sure you exfoliate and loads of moisturiser before you apply, and only wipe over your ankles, knees and elbows once as you are finishing each limb. If you do that with any self tan, it helps stop orange knees and ankles being the embarrassment of a lifetime! The tan is very natural, and I will probably do it again later in the week to give a deeper effect. If they could lose that sticky feeling lasting for that long, it would almost have been perfect. Nice fragrance too.
