We all like a treat now and then and so does our skin! Since here in London we have been having our summer which consists of a few boiling hot days, followed by a few rainy days, I decided to make the most of it and treat myself and my skin to a new high end bronzer. I should stress that I don't usually like the whole bronzed and tanned look on myself as I feel I can't pull it off as well being so fair, however with a bit of fake tan I find that a bronzer helps to add a natural glow to my face without looking too over the top. I decided to go for a high end brand as the quality and the durability of it would be much higher and better for my skin, I chose the Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Mineral Bronzing Powder which retails for £23.49 from Boots - I usually wouldn't spend this much on a bronzer but I knew it would last me and I trust the brand, so on with what it thought of it!
Firstly, I really love the packaging as with most high end brands they like to keep it simple and to the point which I think makes it look much more classier and sophisticated - a proper grown up make up! The bronzer is encased in a light brown plastic circular pot that measures roughly 3 inches in diameter. It feels quite sturdy and solid with a clasp at the side to open and also to make sure that if you are a little clumsy with it, it's not going to smash and disintegrate into a million pieces inside! On top of the lid in gold lettering is simply the brand name 'Elizabeth Arden' and on the back are the ingredients. To look at it is a very simple, yet very effective design and I absolutely love it! Once you open up the clasp of the compact, the first thing that catches your eye is the mirror! It's a large round circular mirror that covers the entire of the lid - I love compacts that contain a mirror as it aids easy application, especially if you are on the go, but also it's a back up one for forgetful types!
The second little handy feature is the brush it comes with. When you first open it you see that the brush handle is spread out into two with a hinge down the middle (this is so that it stores neatly and concisely inside the compact.) To use, you simply click the two pieces together and it transforms into a round handle like a normal brush - I really love this as it is a bit different and also helpful for when your putting on your make up in a rush. The bristles are also very soft so it doesn't feel scratchy or hard on the delicate skin.
The bronzer itself is a loose bronzer, and like most loose powder products it has the handy sieve mechanism to stop you from using too much or your brush from picking up too much product!
There are four shades to choose from which I think is very varied for a bronzer as they usually either have one shade or two at the max. They are:
Soft Radiance: This is the lightest shade of the range and is perfect for fair skin tones as it is not too dark and there are no traces of the annoying orange streaks that usually surface on application. It is a very light, warm brown with streaks of gold undertones throughout. I always struggle to find one that matches perfectly without making me look like I am wearing a bronzer - but this definitely does the job! It is also really handy for contouring as it does not have a lot of shimmer which means you won't end up looking like a disco ball!
Medium: As the name suggests, this bronzer is a medium brown that would suit either fair skin tones who want to have that little bit more colour, people who wear fake tan or medium skin tones. There are quite a lot of bronze undertones and some hints of a light burgundy colour.
Warm Radiance: This shade is just slightly darker than the Medium shade but still not too dark or over powering. I would say this would suit medium to dark skin tones as it has a lot of bronze and golden undertones which would look fantastic to add to that gorgeous summer glow!
Bronze Glow: This is the darkest shade of the range and is a very golden brown with a lot of golden and slight bronze undertones running through. I would say this would suit medium skin tones who want a deeper look or darker skin tones.
To apply, I like to use the brush that it comes with as because it is quite small it does not pick up too much product and allows you to really be in control of where you are putting it. I use this on my cheekbones and temples to give a radiant glow - I don't use this to contour as I find that it adds too much colour to my face however if you are skilled at doing that then this will work for you. It blends in really well and I find that I don't have to keep rubbing it in to get an even coverage.
It not only looks good but it does good for your skin as the mineral powder is infused with a Light Reflecting Mica and a Skin Softening Silica that ultimately aid to assure a natural but luminous look. There are also some Aloe Vera and Chamomile thrown in for good measure because they are known for their moisturising benefits!
You can purchase Elizabeth Arden at Boots or Boots.com, the online website as well as any online make up stores that sell designer brands, and of course any department store that has an Elizabeth Arden counter!
