Fake Bake Self Tanning Mousse
Advantages: Lovely packaging, glam bottle design, sheer texture, not streaky, bronze colour, not orange
Naturally I'm really quite pale but I prefer to have a bit of a tan. Unfortunately I don't tan at all easily and I would probably never use a sun bed because of the risks involved, which means that I end up using fake tan a lot. Normally I use gradual tans but I have tried loads of instant tanning mousses as well. I prefer gradual ones for everyday use but sometimes I want a darker tan, or if I don't have time to wait for it to develop, then I'll use an instant one instead.
I picked this self tanning mousse up in either Boots or Debenhams (it was a long time ago so I can't remember exactly where I bought it frmo) one day when it was on offer. I bought some other products from the range at the same time because it worked out cheaper to buy them all together. I had never tried anything from the range before though so wasn't 100% sure what to expect. I had heard only good things about the range though and I remembered reading in a magazine somewhere that Sarah Harding from Girls Aloud was a big fan of the Fake Bake products. So I expected it would be quite good.
I liked the design of the gold bottle with dark writing on as I think it looks quite original and also quite classy, compared to a lot of fake tan products it really stands out and catches the eye. It came packaged in a dark crimson red card box with the same dark pattern on the bottom as is on the bottom of the bottle in the picture. Overall the bottle design makes a good impression of the tan inside. It makes it seem quite glam and luxurious - also I liked the slogan 'live the lie' as this too seemed to make it seem better than most other tanning products out there whose packaging in comparison seems a bit boring.
A big disadvantage for me though is the price. This is priced around £20 in most places which seems a lot especially when one bottle only lasts me a couple of months if I use it regularly. I don't use this all the time as if I did I would need to keep buying more which would cost a lot of money. However you do pay for what you get and this does seem like a luxury item compared to most of the other tans I have used in the past.
The most important part - the tan itself that this gives me. I did actually really like the gorgeous glowing shade of light brown that this turned me. It wasn't too dark and it wasn't at all orange. It was quite bronzey and gave me a healthy looking shimmery glow in the sunlight too, which I really liked about the product. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't glittery or anything but it was just nice and shimmery. Because I am quite pale naturally I probably wouldn't just go straight to using this tan from nothing in the winter, but if I've got a little bit of tan already in the summer and have built up a light tan with gradual tanning products and want to go a bit darker then I will use this as well so that it seems more natural. I can imagine this would be too dark for some people so if you are really pale and never tan at all then I probably wouldn't recommend this for you. I use this anywhere on the body as it is gentle and I have even used it on my face and it has been fine.
The tan felt quite creamy and had a sheer texture which felt lovely when applied to the skin. It was really easy to apply and not at all streaky. I used a tanning mitt to apply it though so I don't know if it would have been streaky if I had used just my hands to apply it.
Overall I really liked this tanning mousse and the only thing I have to complain about is the price. I have ran out of this product now but I will definitely be buying some more in the future. I am just saving up so I can afford to buy some! Recommended :)
Summary: Excellent tan and would recommend just a shame about the price
