The Garnier Ambre Solaire After Sun Soothing Hydrating Lotion is available for GBP 5.50.
The lotion is described as follows. "This soothing hydrating lotion is specially developed to soothe and nourish skin that feels dehydrated after sun exposure. After exposure to the sun, your skin needs to be intensely hydrated. The combined effect of UV rays, drying air and overheating combine to leave your skin in need of hydration and soothing. Keeping your sun-exposed skin well-hydrated will help keep it feeling comfortable."
The ingredients are Aqua / Water, Paraffinum Liquidum / Mineral Oil, Glycerin, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter / Shea Butter, PEG-100 Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate, Dimethicone, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Limonene, Xanthan Gum, Zinc Gluconate, Linalool, Aloe Barbadensis / Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Carbomer, Farnesol, Geraniol, Bisabolol, Methylparaben, Citronellol, Citral and Parfum / Fragrance.
The consistency is neither too tight nor too runny. They can compare the consistency of a rich body lotion. This lotion is used after sunbathing to return the skin the moisture it has lost because of the sunlight. This may very well this lotion. It supplies the skin with moisture and cools the skin. The lotion leaves a fresh feeling on the skin. The lotion absorbs quickly into the skin and it is pleasantly smooth. Such care properties has some body lotion and then not. In combination with this great fragrance
I generally use Nivea sun care products when going on holidays and spending time out in the British sunshine. But recently I had run out of my after sun lotion and had to use some of my friend's. She uses the 'Garnier After Sun Soothing Hydrating Lotion'.
It comes in 200ml and 400ml blue bottes. The 200ml will set you back £7 at full price but can be found on offer in many drugstores and supermarkets throughout the summer.
The white liquid dispenses easily and I find it's actually quite runny. It smells very sweet and I wasn't keen on the smell at all. It's a sickly sweet smell and if you use the lotion all over your body the smell is very overpowering.
I applied the lotion all over my legs and arms and all the bits that got some sunshine and had gone a bit red. I didn't find the lotion soothing at all, it was stinging a bit on my sunburnt bits but that feeling soon went. The lotion did absorb into my skin easily which was nice, it didn't leave a white film like some lotions.
The lotion promises 24h hydration, but my skin felt quite dry the next morning and I had to reapply the lotion. This could be because my skin was really dehydrated after the sun exposure but having had similar experiences before and used a different lotion I never had problems with dry skin the next morning. My conclusion therefore is that this product doesn't deliver on the 24h moisture.
This lotion contains Aloe Vera which is known to moisturise your skin and it also has a cooling effect, but I would recommend not to waste your money on the Garnier product, instead just buy a much cheaper Aloe Vera gel and you get much better cooling effects and moisture from it.
I will not be buying this product and I'm glad I only had to use it once. I have since stocked up on my usual Nivea range and an Aloe Vera Gel.
~ Why I Bought This After-Sun ~
I bought this after-sun earlier in the week, mainly because it was on offer and I knew it was something that would be really handy when out and about in the heat. My fiancé suffered quite bad sunburn last weekend as we spent around five hours each day for two days out in the sun as we were at a carnival, and although we already had some aloe vera gel to apply to his skin I thought that this may help too.
~ Price ~
I bought my bottle of this from my local Superdrug store as it was on offer. It usually retails at around £9.50 for a 200ml bottle and I managed to get two bottles of it for £4 each which I was really pleased with and I would have stocked up on more at that price but there was only two bottles left! The full retail price is quite expensive but I do think that it is worth it as it is lovely and refreshing and cooling which is a real relief when I am hot and bothered, and it does everything you'd expect a good quality after-sun spray to do.
~ My Opinion ~
I'm so glad that I bought this spray! It is much more practical to use when I'm out in the heat than a gel or cream is and it doesn't leave my skin feeling like it is covered in a sticky layer like the aloe vera gel that I'd been using as an after-sun did. The spray is really versatile and although it is called an after-sun, I do actually use it when I'm out in the sun, as I find it so cooling and refreshing. I love spraying it on my face in particular as it really helps me cool down and gives me a little relief from the heat.
I have been using it for a few days now including earlier today. It was around thirty three degrees where I live and even in the house I was struggling and felt too hot to really do much but this spray was my savour! Every time I felt hot and bothered I'd just spray a little onto my face and skin and I'd feel refreshing and instantly cooled down. The bottle that the sprays comes in is really well designed as one press down on the nozzle and a fine mist comes out which is just the right amount.
The spray isn't messy and it doesn't leave my skin feeling wet or greasy, just lovely and cool and relieved. It really is a huge real relief and my fiancé has been applying it to his sun burn whenever it feels sore or irritable and he agrees that it is a good product. My little boy hasn't really been suffering too much with the heat, I've been keeping him in the shade as much as possible but whenever he looks a little hot and flustered I will spray some of this onto his arms and legs, which doesn't bother him at all and he likes it.
As it is dermatologically tested I feel happy to use this on my little one and none of us have suffered any skin irritation from it and it has not made my fiancés sun burn any worse. The after sun is enriched with cactus extract and Garnier claim that it will leave skin 'soft and supple'. To be honest I haven't noticed that my skin feels any softer after applying this and it doesn't feel softer, the only effect I've personally had from this is a cooling, refreshing sensation and it does leave my skin feeling a little more hydrated which doesn't sound like much but in this heat it is a real luxury!
My fiancé said that he finds it soothing and it has reduced the amount of peeling as it has kept his skin nice and moist - he sprays it really close to his skin, whereas i spray mine at around arms length. The spray smells lovely and leaves my skin smelling fresh which is handy when I'm feeling all sweaty.
I have been using this spray loads over the past few days and the bottle is feeling noticeably lighter but I would happily pay full price for another bottle once I've used these two up as it is the only thing that really helps provide some relief from the sun - we don't have a fan so this is the next best thing in my opinion. It is worth mentioning that this in its self does not offer any protection from the sun, it simply keeps skin feeling refreshing and leaves a barrier of moisture, so you do need to still use sun lotion.
~ All in All ~
I tend to go a abroad once or twice a year, every year I get really bad sunburn which causes me so much pain! I'm terrible with sun cream and really need to apply it more throughout the day. I have to say I am getting better, but my skin still feels tight after a day in the sun. A coupe of years ago I discovered this little beauty, Garnier amber Solaris after sun. It costs around £8.99 at the moment and is brilliant for your skin. I will now go into more detail on the product and explain why it is so good!
You receive a 200ml blue bottle for your money. It is a very good looking bottle. The front of the bottle tells you how it will moisturise your skin for 24 hours and it has a skil cooling effect on you. It is also said to be naturally developed with aloe Vera oil. The back of the bottle explains how to use it and how to apply. You are told to apply straight after sun exposure.
The after sun:
It is a non sticky and non greasy product, it rubs in very easily and quickly. You only need a little bit for it to work. Once you apply you can feel it Woking as your skin starts to cool, it stops pain quickly and is absorbed almost instantly. It also has a very nice smell which stays on your skin. I would say it can be used by men or women as its a pleasent smell, not a girly or masculine smell. If it forget to apply this I will be in pain the next day, if I do apply this the areas which got burned or slightly over exposed will feel better and will not peel. It's really important to use this everyday after exposure. Its the best i have tried.
It may be expensive, but it will last you a long time. I believe it to be a holiday essential. It's always best to buy good quality products for such important things such as sun burn and exposure. I would recommend this to anyone who goes on holiday and suffers from painful, red and tight skin after a day at the beach or by the pool. It's worth a try! I am going to be giving this product a huge 5 star rating as its brilliant and works well for me. I will continue to use this in the future!
Thanks for reading my review :) josh.
