During the few days of hot weather we had recently me and my Husband decided to get Jayden's new paddling pool out, over the bank holiday weekend we had some work to do in the garden and thought he would enjoy having a splash about in it.
However before we took Jayden out to play in the garden we first needed to get him some sun tan lotion, he is quite fair skinned and also being so young he would have easily burnt in the sun. We nipped to our local Tesco to look for a good quality sun cream that was suitable for children, a high factor and also preferable water resistant as he was going to be playing in his paddling pool. After have a look around we decided to go for the Garnier Ambre Solaire Resisto Kids, it was ideal and covered all of the facts we were looking for.
The Garnier Ambre Solaire Resisto Kids comes in a white plastic bottle which has grooves in the side making it easily to grip, it has a yellow spray top (we thought a spray bottle would make it easier to apply the lotion to Jayden's skin) this is then covered with a large clear plastic lid to keep the spray nozzle clean.
The front of the bottle has a clear label on the front of it, at the top this has the name Garnier Ambre Solaire written in black writing, the rest of the name Resisto Kids along with the factor of the sun tan lotion is written in the centre of the bottle in brightly colour writing or in white within a brightly coloured box.
Further information about the product is written below this in black writing and right at the bottom are the words Water Resistant in blue writing with a cartoon picture of a child splashing in water.
The back of the bottle contains the rest of the product information, this is mainly written in black writing and is clearly set out, although the writing is very small and can be a little hard to read, this information includes facts about the product, usage recommendations, warnings and the ingredients.
The Sun Cream
Garnier Ambre Solaire Resisto Kids in appearance ect is just like regular adult sun cream, when you spray it out of the bottle is sprays out as a white cream, this is not overly thick as it needs to be able to be sprayed from the bottle, however it is not so thin that it runs straight off of your skin, it is thick enough to stay in place until you rub it in.
There is no real fragrance to this product as it is perfume free which is ideal for delicate skin. This sun cream is described as conforming 100% to the European recommendation for the protection against harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays, it contains patented mexoryl SX and Mexoryl XL filtration system which protects against these UVA and UVB rays, helping to protect your child's skin again sun induced damage.
This product has been tested under paediatric control and as well as being perfume free is also hypoallergenic making it ideal for sensitive and delicate skin, it is unlikely to cause any adverse reactions.
As I have mentioned 2 of the most important factors I was looking for in sun cream for Jayden was that it was a high factor, this particular one is described as 50+ SPF which is called very high, also we wanted one which was water resistant and this was the case with this particular sun cream making it ideal for all occasions whether in the garden or out and about.
This is in the form of a list on the back of the bottle, this includes the directions of use and also the warnings about how the product should not be used.
* Shake well before use
* Do not spray directly into face (I spray it into my hand and then apply it to Jayden's face)
* Over exposure to the sun is dangerous
* Keep babies and young children out of direct sunlight
* Do not stay in the sun too long, even after using sunscreen
* Avoid exposure during peak hours
* Apply just before sun exposure
* Re-apply frequently and generously especially after swimming (even though it is water resistant) perspiring and towel drying
* Keep children well covered
* Avoid contact with eyes
* Use a sunscreen suited to your skin type.
Personally I feel the usage recommendations concentrates mainly on warnings of how not to use the product rather than telling your how it should be used. I used this product by simply spraying a small amount onto an area of Jayden's skin and then rub it in with my hand, applying more as I go.
When it comes to applying the sunscreen to his face I spray it into my hand and then rub it into his face making sure it has thoroughly soaked in and avoiding his eye area. When applied the sun cream does leave a slightly sticky feel to the skin, however I found that this soon wore off and to be honest you wouldn't know that the sun cream was there.
Rubbing the sun cream in was very easily and it spreads over the skin quickly and simply, this for us was ideal as after a while Jayden was getting board having to sit while I rubbed the cream in so being able to get the job done quickly meant he didn't have to sit there for too long and could soon be off playing again.
Price and Availability
As I have mentioned we bought out 200ml bottle of Garnier Ambre Solaire Resisto Kids from Tesco, however this product is available in other supermarkets as well as places such as Boots and Superdrug.
This product is usually sold for £6.00, however when I bought it it had money off and was £5.00. Sunscreen is quite expensive to buy, however I personally think it is worth the money if it protects Jayden from getting burnt whilst playing, the bottle will last a while as I find I do not need a huge amount at a time, we keep Jayden as covered as much as possible in the sun without him getting too hot and then apply the sunscreen to the exposed areas of skin which tend to be his lower arms, legs and face and at the moment his head as he is going through a phase where he refuses to wear a hat, trying to make him either results in a paddy or the hat being thrown on the floor, so this product is quite economical.
We have used the Garnier Ambre Solaire Resisto Kids a few times now on Jayden and have been pleased with the results, the sun cream is easy to apply and the spray bottle makes it much quicker as you do not have to spend ages trying to drain the cream out of a bottle.
There is no strong fragrance to this product and it is ideal for sensitive skin so is unlikely to cause any reaction. This product really does appear to be water resistant, we have applied it to Jayden before he has played in his paddling pool and he has not got burnt at all, all areas of exposed skin have remained fully protected.
This sun cream is reasonably priced and is within keeping of other similar products but in my opinion is definitely worth the money as it does such a good job of preventing Jayden from getting burnt.
This is definitely a product I would recommend to anyone looking for a sunscreen to use on their children and I will certainly be buying this again once the bottle has run out as I can trust it to keep Jayden protected whilst out in the sun.
