I'd first of all like to say that I purchased Garnier Summer Body Moisturising Lotion for a 'sun-kissed look' off Ebay for £5.99 about a year ago.
With the claims on the bottle stating that this inexpensive body moisturiser will leave 'your skin looking naturally sun-kissed and radiant all year round', I'd certainly agree that the formula stays true to its intentions. On first use I opened the bottle only to be greeted by the beautiful fruity scent of apricot extract (not sure what benefit this has on the body) but it certainly smells wonderful. After using the product only once the smell lingered for about a day which is amazing for a budged high-street moisturiser.
After one use the tanning effects were barely noticable other than no my hands where there had been an obvious buuild up of the product. On second application I learned from my mistakes and applied the product generously but evenly all over the body, which is an extremely hard process in areas such as the neck, feet and so on because it seems to cling to the crevices and dry patches. You must so SO careful that you really are applying it evenly leaving no areas without it, otherwise you'll wake up the next morning with visible patches which are both embarrassing and impossible to remove instantly. Make sure that after every use you wash the palm of your hand but NOT the whole hand as many would do, otherwise you'll have white hands and a line on your wrist where the tan stops!
All in all this is one of my favourite self-tanning lotions since it leaves the skin fully and noticably hydrated as well as a beautiful golden shade.
When that first hint of sunshine announces that summer is on its way, this is the product that I can count on to give my skin that touch of warmth that sets off those lovely summer pastels and brights that start to emerge from my wardrobe.
While I am not a fan of the obviously fake, if I'm buying a product to give me gradual colour, I want to see a difference and this is one moisturising product which really does make a difference from the first use.
Although my skin is fairly pale, I always go for the dark shade, as the resulting colour seems to suit me, isn't too dark but does give a nice even warm glow to my skin which looks healthy and smooth.
Application is easy. Just apply evenly after a bath or shower, preferably after exfoliating and then avoid wearing too many clothes until it has had time to absorb. For me, this and the tell-tale fake tan type smell are the downside. I can't stand the feel of clothing against the sticky texture of newly moisturised skin and I wouldn't want to risk causing an uneven result and it seems to take ages to absorb.
Taking care to wash hands thoroughly afterwards, paying attention to between the fingers is a must, and going lightly over elbows and knees is advisable because, in common with many of these products that actually do produce a result, these areas are prone to grabbing the colour to give an unnatural orange patched effect. Again, this is a tricky one as I have also been a victim of the 'white hands' effect of not having any lotion on the backs of them.
Priced at around £5 a bottle with offers often available around the start of spring and summer, it's an economical way to getting a good glow, especially as maintaining the effect does not involve daily application.
The lotions comes in different shades, dark, deep or natural, I chose the dark colour and my skin tone is quite dark
Application is really simple, as soon as I get out the shower (ensuring I have exfoliated), I simply rub all over my body. Make sure you wash your hands afterwards (as with must gradual tan products) or you will end up with orange palms. It absorbed into my skin really easily and was not greasy at all, it was just like a normal moisturiser, the other good point is it doesn't rub off very easily (I have white bedding and have found with previous products, there had tended to be a brownish tint to where I lie). The following day I could really notice a difference and had a healthy glow. I have been using it for 3 weeks now and I have a natural looking sun tan (no orange tints at all).
Another good point is that it doesn't seam to streak too much there are bits that I have clearly missed when applying (when I have been in a rush in the morning) but I just apply a bit more to that area and it is hardly visible now.
The product has apricot extract in which smells really nice and fresh unlike similar products.
You can also use the product on your face however I haven't as I prefer to use bronzer to ensure even and natural coverage.
The only downside of the product I would say is the moisturising element, although for most of the day, my skin feels and looks lovely, by the time I get home from work, my legs are starting to look a bit dry again yet Garnier boast it moisturises for 12 hours.
The RRP ranges from around £4 to £7 depending on offers, mine was half price from Superdrug, £3.55 for a 400ml bottle and it is widely available in most supermarkets and chemists.
I would really recommend this product to anybody wanting to have a healthy glow.
I try and fake tan at least once a week especially in winter time and in between I usually use a moisturiser with a hint of sun tanning lotion to try and keep up the sunkissed glow. I have tried all the moisturisers with tanners in them that are on the market and my favourite one is the Garnier Summer Body Sun Kissed glow one as it gives me the nicest result and doesn't look too artificial on my skin. It also just feels lovely to use.
Some of the moisturisers with tanner can actually go too dark and can leave streaks but I find that with this one it just gives me a hint of colour and is a nice accompaniment to either a real natural tan in summer or else a good fake tan in winter. It doesn't change the colour of my skin too much and just gives me the light hint of colour that I am looking for. This builds up with time so after using it a few days the colour really starts to become noticeable but it isn't too dark and it just looked like my own natural skin colour just with a little bit of a tan instead of turning me orange.
It helps keep my own natural sun tan looking good for longer as well as keeping my fake tan looking natural and deep.
Unlike with my proper fake tan that takes me absolutely ages to apply because of all the exfoliating and moisturising and making sure that it is buffed onto my skin properly this is a much quicker fix to use as it can just be applied after a shower or bath just like a normal moisturiser and you don't have to be too careful with it either as it doesn't streak. It is also a really nice moisturiser and even ifit didn't contain a tanning agent I would probably still use it as it works to keep my skin feeling hydrated for hours after using it.
It costs 5 a bottle but I don't need to use loads at a time so it lasts a decent amount of time and it is one of those brands that constantly seem to be on offer so I often manage to buy it for half price.
I've been using this moisturiser for a few months, since the middle of May roundabouts, and it has been somewhat of a love hate relationship for me with this moisturiser. I've not been able to go on holiday this year and everyone I know is sick of me moaning about not getting a tan, so I thought I would put them out of their misery when I saw this at Wilkinsons at half price for £2.99. It was only cheap so it wasn't a huge waste of money to throw away if I didn't like it.
The bottle is a nice shape and the lid is a simple click open lid. It does fall over easily because of its flattened shape so be careful not to spill it if you knock it over with the lid off. The bottle a simple squeezy bottle.
The moisturiser absorbs nicely when put on the skin but I would advise washing your hands as soon as you're finished as the moisturiser will be more concentrated on your hands and will tan your hands a dark orange, which is not an attractive look! I would advise buying a tanning mitt or working quickly! Also, I've found that if you apply the moisturiser before bed and don't leave enough time to absorb, it will rub off onto your sheets, and I now have a set of white sheets that have a lovely orange tint! It also smells very strongly of apricots and tanning lotion, and everyone can smell you from a mile away. It is not a pleasant smell and when it is concentrated on your hands you can smell it all the time.
You do get a lovely gradual tan, and it goes a lovely deep brown, but unfortunately you cannot use a loofah when showering with this tan on or else it will wash off, and shaving your legs takes off layers of the tan so I would recommend shaving legs before you apply the tan.
Overall, an alright moisturiser but I would say its more of a gradual tan than a moisturiser, and I would not use it again as it smells awful but for the tan it gives you its not bad. Would buy a more expensive gradual tan next time like the St Tropez one.
I was scouring Wilkinsons for my usual dove gradual tanner (the store have had it on a half price offer for a while and when it's usually £4.99 a pop and you use it on a regular basis like me - this is good news)! Sadly the branch I was at had run out and I was in desperate need of some tanner/moisturiser. I looked at what was in the same price range and came across this garnier version of a gradual tanner/moisturiser. I have had lots of hit and misses with Garnier products and seem to either love them or hate them! At £2.50 however how can you go wrong (I have since also bought a few more since)!
I have seen the price of the product vary from store to store. I feel I would pay slightly more for the product as think it is good value for a 250ml bottle however at the same time when you know how cheap it can be it is difficult to pay more!
Packaging is inkeeping with the rest of the Garnier line. Like I stated in an earlier Garnier review - the yellow packaging reminds you of summer which is ideal given as to that how the product is trying to sell itself - 'sun kissed glow'.
Again though there is a lot of writing on the packaging (list of ingredients, product claims/statements) which I personally find annoying although I guess it's good to have the information there should you need it.
Application is easy, no tanning mits and no need to wash hands afterwards as the build up is really gradual. I try to exfoliate twice a week in between applications and this seems to promote a nice even glow. The moisturiser is white and less translucent than some of the other garnier moisturisers I have used and feels nice in between your skin. The moisturiser is fairly fast at drying.
The shape of the bottle also makes it easier to keep the bottle upside down so you can get every last bit out! If you do need to cut it open though (which I do with some of my products to get every last teeny tiny bit out!) the bottle is a very thin plastic so it is easy to do this!
I definitely find this more effective in building a nice colour than the garnier mist which I have also reviewed. Although the tan is not as dramatic as when I use the dove moisturiser, it is still noticeable. I usually use it for 3 days in a row then take a day or two off and use for another 3 consecutive days. Although this can be a little time consuming it has also encouraged my use of moisturiser more and I have found as a result my skin is definitely softer and more supple!
As with the other products in this range it also gives a nice apricot smell - not the biscuit type smell that I'm used to with most gradual tanners!
At last! I am writing a positive review on a product which hasn't let me down! I don't know if you read my review a few weeks ago about my disaster with a moisturising tan but after that disaster I was a bit concerned about trying another one but I did my research properly this time and saw that there was plenty of good reviews about this product and so I decided to give it a go and see! I am really pleased to say (and I know you're all relieved too!) that it was not a disappointment and I am really happy with this product and recommend it to one and all!
....Self tan and me.....
I do not often wear self tans but when there is a special occasion I like to try to disguise my ghastly white legs just a little bit! I like to spend quite a bit of time on looking after myself and so like to try out different products. I have had several disasters with fake tans and these gradual moisturisers and was beginning to wonder if I would ever find something which would work properly! Lots of my friends seem to be able to apply any kind of tanning product and end up looking sun-kissed whereas I tend to look like a streaky orange and it's not good! After the latest disaster I was beginning to get a bit fed up but I wanted to try to find a fake tan that would work and thought it would probably be best to use one to try out when I don't have a special occasion coming up. My mistake the last few times has been to know I have a wedding coming up so to try a new fake tan a day or so before in preparation for the wedding which of course would be perfect if the tan worked but also a huge mistake if it didn't! This time I chose a time when there would be no need for me to have my legs on display and no event to attend. I also looked into different tans too to try to make sure I got the best. I really wanted something with a gradual tan effect so that I have some control over how dark I allow it to go, I didn't want an instant tan which could be too dark too quickly and then I'd be stuck trying to get it off! The reviews of this product looked really good so I decided to buy it. I got it from Asda and although I cannot remember what I paid for it (baby brain and all that) it was around the £3 mark which I am perfectly happy to pay for a product if it works well.
.....Garnier Summer body.....
There's actually quite a lot of information to take in here when you look at the bottle. It tells you that it's 'summer body' so you assume that that means it will give you that sun-kissed look. It also says it's moisturising lotion and that it's 'deep' so these main points suggest that it will build up a deep tan. I have quite a dark skin complexion and so deep tans are fine for me plus I think with a gradual tan you can always use it a day or so less to make it not too deep so I thought it would work well.
The bottle is a golden colour which I think ties in well with the whole sun-kissed theme and it's got lots of information on the front showing off all it's benefits such as having extract of apricots, having a fresh fragrance, it being a moisturising lotion, gradually builds a natural tan, effective moisturiser, radiant looking skin... so really when you read this you think it sounds like a miracle lotion and it just has to be bought! The back of the bottle has more information on with a bit of a question and answer thing which is quite good such as 'how is it different?' and the answer: "In one step summer body moisturising lotion moisturises your skin from morning until evening whilst gradually building a natural looking tan in harmony with you skin tone'" now just reading that is enough of a selling point for me!
Now although the bottle is singing this product's praises I still do not 100% believe that it will work as so many other beauty products make lots of claims that turn out not to be completely true so I wasn't prepared to expect this to work. The directions state that you apply it evenly to your body all year round. Very simple instructions yes but I tend to want more I need to know how much should you apply? When is the best time of day to do it? Are you okay to apply it directly after shaving or should you wait? So really it's a game of just trial and error!
Due to the huge mistakes of last time I chose to go for the less is more approach. To open the bottle you just flip open the lid which is very easy to do, no problems at all with this one and right away you can smell it. It smells of apricots and it's really nice, it reminds me of summer time. The opening in the bottle is only small and you have to squeeze the lotion out. The lotion is a good consistency as it isn't runny but it isn't too thick either, it's a nice happy medium and this is perfect for applying to skin. I decided to not apply too much so just added a very small layer on both of my legs making sure that it was really well rubbed in all over to make sure that it wouldn't streak or I wouldn't leave a patch clear. I think the less is more approach is best so you can work on spreading it out better rather than using loads and it being too dense in one area.
After applying this I smelt beautiful! My sense of smell at the minute is really in over drive and I was aware that I smelt of apricots for what seemed like ages. My husband insisted he couldn't smell it after a while but I could! I kept my legs bare for a good half an hour after applying and then put my shorts back on. My legs didn't feel greasy or as though they had any lotion on, it really felt as though it had been absorbed so this was good as I didn't have to worry about thinking my shorts may be rubbing off parts of the lotion from my legs.
The following day I was eager to see the result and I must admit it was only a very, very slight difference. I could just about see that my legs looked slightly darker but it wasn't really noticeable at all but that is what you expect from a gradual tan so I applied it again that evening and on day 2 I checked out my legs again and there was a definite change and one that I was happy with too! My legs were slightly darker and there were no streaks that I could see! I even asked my husband to check and he said they were nice and even so I was really pleased. I applied one more that evening and the next morning my legs were just how I would want them to be. They definitely looked sun kissed and there were no streaks at all. the only little thing I noticed was by my ankles there was a part that looked a bit blotchy and I presume this was because I didn't pay enough attention to rubbing it in properly here.
I really do think that this works with your skin tone like the bottle says because it didn't look too dark and it looked really natural with my skin. I could have made it even darker by applying more for a couple more days but I think then perhaps it would have been a bit extreme and I wanted to go for the natural look and not the too dark to be true look! In terms of it being a moisturiser it's hard to tell really whether it has made my skin smoother but I've definitely not noticed it be any more dry or anything so it's not had any negative effects that's for sure.
I noticed that after about two days the tan began to fade and with a little encouragement by ex-foliating it soon was able to be washed away. It did look a little like I had grubby legs as it began to fade so it is good that it can be washed away easily once it begins to fade. I think had I had applied some more at this point it would have just topped it up and stopped that grubby look from appearing.
Finding a lotion which creates a decent tan has proven difficult for me over the last couple of years. I have tried a variety of different methods and found fault in them all but at last I have found something which seems to really work and I am so relieved!
This is really easy to use and with it being rather fast at absorbing it doesn't delay your day too much either with waiting around for it to dry. Everything about this is really good. The consistency of the lotion is great because it's not too runny so it won't run away off your legs before you have chance to rub it in and it's not too thick so it is difficult to rub around the area you need. I found it really easy to apply and I like the smell too because it's fruity and reminds me of summer time.
The result is just what I was hoping for as it is a gradual build up you can make it as dark as you like and I like being able to control it like this. It is a very natural tan too with it working with your skin tone. I certainly didn't look as though I was wearing a fake tan but I also didn't look like I had ghastly white legs any more! The absolute best thing about this is that it did not leave any streaks which was a huge relief! I now know that when I have an event coming up and I'm intending on having my legs out that I can wear this and rely on it working, I won't have to worry about that streaky disaster happening again like earlier in the year!
I really highly recommend this. The bottle contains 250ml and I can see that lasting a long while as you don't need to use very much at all. I definitely think that less is more so only apply a small amount as I am sure this helped to not create any streaks. If you're looking for a natural looking tan and can wait for it to build up over a couple of days then this is for you!
Oh this may be a moisturiser but it doesn't contain SPF so perhaps the only way I would improve this product is to add that into it too.
I love sitting out in the sun but am only too aware of the damage this can do to my skin so I do slap on plenty of sunscreen and cover up as much as possible especially during those hotter hours. But still, no one wants to look ridiculously pale in the summer and since sun beds are completely out of the question in my opinion, if I want sun kissed skin I simply have to fake it! Over the years I have tried countless fake tans but a few years back I came across Garniers Summer body sun kissed look lotion and have stuck with it ever since.
Garniers Summer body sun kissed moisturising lotion comes in a 250ml orange plastic bottle with a white flip top lid. The front of the bottle shows the brand and product name along with the claim that it will
* gradually build a natural looking sun kissed tan
* effectively moisturise for 12 hours
* leave skin soft and radiant all year round
Plenty of information is given on the back including ingredients list, directions for use and some warnings. The product has been dermatological tested. it does not protect against UV light. Once opened the product should be used within 6 months.
Garniers summer body sun kissed moisturising lotion does not give an instant tan, it is a gradual one which builds up over time. Personally I much prefer this gradual method as it gives me to a little more control over the intensity of the tan. I feel it looks a little more natural especially compared to instant tans which just seem to send me orange! Plus there is no need to worry about unsightly streaks or missing patches, it all just blends it nicely together.
I tend to apply the lotion 2-3 days a week, I always shower and use a decent exfoliate all over before using as I think it gives a better result. I squeeze small amounts into my hand and gentle rub into my skin ensuring I distribute evenly. This is a nice moisturiser that does not feel overly sticky, it is absorbed into the skin quickly so I don't have to hang around for ages waiting for it to dry before I can get dressed. Still it is essential to ensure it is touch dry before dressing as i can imagine it could stain clothes, and that certainly wouldn't be a good look! It is also advised to wash hands after using.
Although this is a gradual tan it doesn't take ages to build up, within a couple of weeks skin really does look beautifully "sun kissed", true to Garniers word skin feels soft, looks amazing and radiant, it feels and looks healthy.
The lotion has a lovely fruity apricot smell, which always reminds me of summer, it is fresh, clean and light. The fragrance lingers on the skin for quite sometime which I absolutely love.
I would certainly recommend Garniers Summer body sun kissed look moisturising lotion to anyone looking for a gradual build fake tan product, I simply love it and it is one of my essential items!
Superdrug: £5.09 ( currently half price @ £2.49)
This is a gradual tanning moisturiser from Garnier. The product claims to create a natural looking sun kissed tan and to also provide effective 12 hour moisturisation. I've been buying this product for about a year and a half and although it has a few downfalls I still keep purchasing it because the positives outweigh the negatives.
The moisturiser is housed within a yellow/gold sort of plastic bottle, there are indentations in the centre of the bottle to make it easier to hold (mine looks slightly different to the one in the picture above). The white lid has a flip top cap that locks tight ensuring that the white coloured moisturiser is kept inside the bottle. On the front of the bottle there is product information including the name and shade of the product in my case "light sun kissed look" (you can purchase darker shades, this is the lightest one). At the top of the bottle it also says that there are extracts of apricot included in the product. On the back of the bottle we are told there is 250ml of product and there is a list of ingredients, directions of use etc but what I also like is that there are questions printed on the back such as "Is Summerbody Moisturising lotion for me?" I like this because it helps you decide if you are suited to the item.
You can currently purchase this product for £2.49 from Superdrug but I sometimes see it on offer in Wilkinsons and so it may be worth shopping around.
Overall I think this product is above average but not amazing, I sound like I'm putting it down but hopefully my review will make you understand why despite being average I still buy it often. If I start with it's moisturising ability, unfortunately it doesn't live up to it's 12 hour claim, in fact it barely reaches a 3 hour claim from my experience, luckily I don't have very dry skin and so this isn't a problem but the moisturised effect does wear off quickly, it doesn't dry out the skin but it doesn't effectively moisturise it either. It also lacks a bit in terms of smell in my opinion, most gradual tanners have a bit of a weird smell as with most tanning products but this one claims to have apricot extracts which I can sort of smell when I open the fresh bottle, however over time I find this apricot smell goes and mingles in with the fake tan smell, it's not the best smell in the world but it's not the worst either however it is a bit frustrating because it lingers for ages on the skin. These are the bad points about the product but the reason I purchase the product is for it's gradual tanning ability and I must say in this sense it performs well.
I apply the product to my legs because I'm a pale girl and in the summer my arms tend to get a bit of a tan because they are always out but my legs aren't out as much and don't get a good sunning so I use this product to help me feel a bit more matched up. It applies smoothly and I don't feel I need a lot of product to cover my legs. I tend to apply the product at night and even after one application in the morning when I get up I can already notice a nice even gentle glow, when using the product regularly on a nightly basis after about three days I have a nice even sun kissed glow, it's not too drastic either which I like because I would look silly with a deep tan on my legs but not on my arms! The product also has good staying power, if I stop applying it, the sun kissed look tends to last for another 3 or so days which I think is pretty good.
Overall this product is obviously not perfect, it has it's downfalls but I think for the price and for the main purpose of the product (gradual tan) I think it does pretty well. Most gradual tanners have a strange smell and I also find that they can't perform as well as a normal moisturiser in terms of keeping the areas moisturised for long periods of time. The product does provide a nice and very even glow though and I still keep purchasing it for this reason. For the downfalls I can only give it 3 stars but I still personally think it's a decent product.
I brought this Garnier summer body lotion a couple of months ago, it appealed to me as i have very pale skin and when we do actually have any sun i cant just sit out in it as it burns my skin so i wanted a sun kissed look amd this product says it builds up a natural looking tan and it has 12 hours moisturisation and i thought this looks good to me.
The bottle i brought was a 400ml and is long and slender and it comes in yellow and i purchased this from superdrug when it was on offer for under £5..bargain..on the back of the bottle it says how this product is different and how it works by saying it moisturises your skin and builds up a natural looking tan and it works with your natural skin tone to do this. The directions on how to use it, you need to apply product evenly all over skin and can be used everyday and to make sure you wash your hands after each application.
When it came to using this product i made sure i put a little moisturiser on dry bits of my skin beforehand like my elbows and knees. I used a very small amount for every bit of my body as i didnt want it to go wrong as you cant actually see where you have applied it when you are rubbing it in as the lotion comes out in a white colour and it doesnt tint the skin when applying. The smell when applying smells really fresh as i hate when you apply fake tan they always have a funny smell to them and then you start smelling after a while.
A couple of hours after applying i noticed a hint of colour coming to my skin and then a further 2 hours i noticed i was a little darker and it had given me a slight sunkissed look but i did want to be a little darker so i thought i will just apply the next day. The cream rubs in really easily and the skin absorbs it really well, a little later on after wearing clothes and doing everyday things i did notice a slight funny smell and i smelt my arm and it was coming from the tan, so later on i had a shower and you notice after the shower the tan doesnt really stay on so i did apply again the next morning and hours later again there was a funny smell which i cant describle, it did just smell like fake tan i suppose and it wasnt the nicest so i was abit disappointed with that so i am afraid to say i wont be using this product again in the future.
So far this year we haven't had a lot of sunny days when we can sit and relax in the garden and enjoy the summer. I have a very pale skin and I like my skin to look a little tanned during the summer months. I am not a sun worship kind of woman, so a fake tan suits me just fine. I bought this lotion when I spotted it on special offer around 6 weeks ago, so decided to buy it and give it a go.
It comes in a yellow plastic bottle which has a flip back lid. The lid is easy to click back into place again after using the lotion. The bottle is slim line, so very easy to hold in the hands comfortably. Immediately the lid is flipped back I can detect an Apricot fragrance. It is a really nice pleasant fragrance and one I like quite a lot. It isn't an over powering smell or too fruity. The lotion is white in colour and it has a rich consistency and not at all runny. It feels really soft and a little thicker than some other brands of lotions. Also the fragrance has staying power on the skin and the smell remains on the skin for a good while after applying it and it has dried.
It is very easy to apply to the skin. I just pour a little amount on my fingertips and then just gently massage it into my skin. I only apply it a little at a time to make sure I don't use too much and I just build it up little by little. It is surprising how much an area of the skin a small blob of the lotion can actually cover. You don't need a lot and it is trial and error, you can always add a little more to the skin you have covered if you feel you may need a little more but at first I suggest just a small amount.
The sun-kissed look lotion is designed for lighter skin tones. The lotion contains a special formula which contains a hint of tanning ingredient. It also contains Apricot extract. This tanning ingredient gives just the correct amount of tan for my pale skin.
After the first time I used it, only applying the small amount, my skin looked just the same as when I have used a regular lotion. I waited and kept looking at my skin to see if it tanned or not. It took around half a hour or so before I could see a slight tan. After a hour I could definitely see my skin had tanned perfectly. After 2 hours I re applied a little more, just the same amount as the first time and after another half a hour or so, my skin was definitely more tanned.
What I love about this lotion is the time it takes to soak into the skin. It only takes a couple of minutes to fully soak into the skin, perfect time if you want to get dressed soon after applying it. It helps to moisturise my skin perfectly. My skin does feel nourished and extremely soft after one application but even more so after a second application.
I have applied this all over my body. It is super for tanning legs, I just hate it when stop wearing my tights when summer arrives and my legs are really white. A couple of applications of this lotion really helps give them some colour.
The lotion doesn't leave streak marks on the skin like some other brands tend to do, this one blends well over the skin to give it an even look. It really does look like a real tan if applied slowly and gradually building up the tan. The skin looks naturally tanned and gives it a soft glow for the skin in my opinion.
I think this is a really good lotion to use if you are going abroad on holiday and don't want to stand out in the crowd with a really pale skin when you first arrive on holiday. However it does not protect against UV light.
After the first day I used this the first time and washed my body, my skin was pale again, so it washes from the skin with no problems at all if you decide you don't want your skin to have a tan. This lotion doesn't look too dark on the skin, just a light natural tan. It doesn't look fake if you use it with care and build the tan look up a little at a time. You will soon know how much to apply to the skin and we are all different and want either a slight tan or a darker one. I prefer just a light tan and this lotion really does give the perfect tan look for my skin.
I have sensitive skin and found it hasn't irritated my skin at all, it has just left it feeling moisturised with a little colour.
For a 250ml bottle, it is priced at just £3.80 but I bought mine for half this price on special offer but I have seen it on offer once since I bought mine around 6 weeks ago, so it is best to shop around for this one to find the cheapest price.
I highly recommend this lotion if you want to give your skin a light natural tan, it is a good quality lotion and very good value for the price in my opinion and I am very happy with the results it has given for my pale skin. If you want a darker tan, just apply more to create a deeper tan.
You must also wash the hands after using the lotion because as we all know tanning products can stain the hands. I have found that the lotion hasn't left my hands at all stained, like years ago when I used my very first tanning product and had brown palms lol.
With the weather being so awful at the moment, I am so happy I bought this lotion.
Also on Ciao under my username Pinky50.
I give it 5 stars.
Thank you for reading my review.
I don't like looking pale but to keep a year round 'glow' I do opt for fake tanning products as I am not one to go to sunbeds. There is a wide variety of self tanning products on the market with varying price tags. I don't like the tango effect I simply like something a bit more natural without being too in your face. However, after years of experimenting with various types of self-tanning products I found that whilst some were great they weren't particularly moisturising and tended to dry out my skin which for someone who can already suffer with dry skin this wasn't particularly appealing.
Whilst browsing in my local Boots a few years ago I came across a new range of products by Garnier and one in particular caught my eye. It was Garnier Summerbody Moisturising Lotion Sun-Kissed Look it was released at the same time as the Johnsons version but as the Garnier was on offer at the time it got my vote! Moisturising products with self tan in have become hugely popular and going from just one or two brands there is now a wide choice. Garnier is a brand that I am well aware of and use their products regularly and happy with the results so this wasn't a hard choice to make.
The idea behind Garnier Summerbody Moisturising Lotion Sun-Kissed Look is that you build up a nice natural looking tan over a period of time whilst helping to keep your skin moisturised. The thought behind it is that every time you apply it to your skin it works with your natural skin tone therefore making it a more natural looking tan so hopefully we won't go orange! The key ingredient behind keeping your skin soft and supple is the apricot extract which is used and will hopefully keep yourskin fully hydrated for up to 12 hours - a big claim by Garnier and one I can only assume is worked out by people with normal type skin.
The Garnier Summerbody Moisturising Lotion Sun-Kissed Look comes in a lovely gold metallic shaped plastic bottle which is certainly quite fitting with the tanning theme. It features on the front the Garnier logo together with the product name as well as which type of skin you have whether fair or dark as depending on this Garnier do two different versions, one lotion for paler skins and one for darker skins so it's important you get the right bottle! On the back of the bottle there is the ingredients list, how to use the item as well as warnings and contact information for Garnier - basically all the usual information one would expect.
The cream itself is white in colour and almost has a metallic sheen to it if you look at it closely. It has a decent consistency bordering on a medium thickness. It pours out of its bottle easily with a little gentle squeezing but I have found that if you are too heavy handed you will end up with far too much on your hands. I have also found out that if you have too much of the lotion on your hands you can easily get it on the floor whilst trying to aim for a part of your body (bit like using hair conditioner in the shower!). It has a pleasant enough smell which does have a very faint undertone of apricots but nothing overpowering but it does also have a hint of the self tan smell which fortunately is not particularly strong.
To apply you just massage the lotion onto the desired parts of your body. From early learning I apply it directly onto the skin for most places anyway and then just massage in making sure you have evenly rubbed it in as you don't want to miss any patches. Definitely make sure you pay attention to the drier areas of the body such as elbows and ankles. Once you've applied the lotion you simply have to let it absorb. I have found that my skin can feel a bit sticky after I've used it and I don't feel like I could put clothes on straight away so I tend to wait for around 10 minutes before getting changed. Most importantly it is vital that you wash your hands after you've used it as you could wake up with orange palms!
On the whole I do like the lotion and if you apply it regularly (I apply every other day to build up a gradual tan then twice a week to maintain it) then it does work effectively but I have found that it works in some areas better than others which is a shame but it does seem percieverance is definitely the trick with this. Whilst I don't like waiting so long to get some clothes on as it does feel a little sticky to the touch it does give a very smooth finish to my skin which is lovely. I've been using this on and off for a few years now and whilst it isn't my favourite product to us it does keep my skin extremely soft and supple whilst giving it a nice healthy glow although it doesn't keep my skin moisturised for up to 12 hours I didn't really expect it to!
Overall, a decent product which does the job it says although regular usage will give the desired effect and definitely a better alternative than going on the sunbed. I can't award a full 5 stars simply because of the time it takes to absorb into the skin but it has managed to keep my skin soft and nourished which is what my skin definitely needs. I would recommend this but if you can get it on offer then even better! 4 stars from me.

I was at my cousins one afternoon and she was having a clear out of all the products she no longer used and she asked me if I wanted any. The Garnier Summerbody Moisturising Lotion was amongst the many items I gratefully took from her.
I had heard many good things about this product, but never got round to buying it as it was £7.10 from superdrug and boots (however it has now gone down to £3.55 in both shops).
When I first applied it, I squeezed a line of the lotion from the top of my arm going down to my wrist and then rubbed it in in circular motions and left it to dry whilst I moved onto my other arm and body. The smell has a delicious combination of apricot and coconut, which reminded me of being abroad and gives that 'summer time' feel.
As soon as this sunk in and fully dried, my skin was left smooth and super soft but that yummy smell soon turned in to that nasty fake tan smell. However, when the tan was left to develop over night, I woke up to a flawless golden tan.
All in all, I really like the Garnier Summerbody Moisturising Lotion, but wish the apricot and coconut smell would last as long as the tan did.
In my late teens I became quite addicted to having a tan and used sunbeds very frequently, realising the damage that this could be doing to my skin I stopped several years ago but am always on the lookout for ways to get a natural looking glow without exposing myself to harmful methods again. I have very pale skin and although I do tan naturally when I have spent a winter wrapped up and hidden away from any sunlight then my legs certainly gain the milk bottle look. Not being a fan of traditional fake tans I have tried several of the moisturisers available with a hint of fake tan included and recently after reading good reviews about the Garnier summer body moisturiser thought I would give it a try.
I purchased a 400ml bottle of the Garnier Summer Body from Superdrug where it was on a half price special offer and cost just £3.55. It is also available in a smaller 250ml bottle.
The summer body moisturiser with a sun-kissed look comes in both light and dark shades. Personally with my skin being very pale and having had some tanning disasters in the past I decided to opt for the light version as I did not want to turn a bright shade of orange.
The moisturiser comes in a plastic light shimmery orange colour bottle with a flip top white cap. The bottle is slightly curved at the side which allows you to grip it easily to distribute the moisturiser out. To distribute the moisturiser you simply flip the cap open and squeeze the bottle, as the moisturiser is quite thick it does come out easily and does not leave any residue around the cap. On the bottle you can find all the necessary information that you need to know about how the moisturiser works, directions for use and ingredients listings.
The moisturiser itself is white in colour and is quite thick, one thing that I did notice about this moisturiser straight away is the smell. Having used similar products to this in the past I have found that the tanning agent contained in the moisturiser tends to still smell quite strong but there is no sign at all with this one and it in fact smells fresh and fruity.
It states to apply the moisturiser evenly to your body everyday all year around for a natural looking even tan. I have been using this product for a couple of weeks now and have been applying it every other day which for me has worked perfectly well. It is very easy to apply as it smoothes onto my skin well and after around 5 minutes of drying time I am able to get dressed without feeling at all sticky. As the moisturiser contains a tanning agent it works in the same way as fake tan does and once applied to the skin slowly beings to develop. I have found that I begin to notice my skin changing colour around 30 minutes after use which is quite quick and allows you to use the moisturiser in the mornings rather than having to apply it at night to leave it time to develop.
This is by far the best moisturiser of this type that I have tried and it does leave my skin with a lovely healthy looking glow without looking at all orange or fake. I do have a couple of patches of drier skin which the moisturiser does seem to leave looking a little darker and patchy but this is just the nature of my skin. I have used this product both before and after exfoliating and have had great results each time. If you want to achieve a slightly darker colour I would suggest using this everyday but for me once every other day achieves the results I was hoping for. The moisturiser also works well as it designed to in moisturising my skin as it is left feeling soft and smooth even at the end of a long day. The only niggle I have about this product is that after applying the fresh, fruity fragrance is slightly lost and replaced by that of a fake tan one but not in any way as strong as other products, I guess this is something that is just inevitable until they can invent a odourless tanning agent.
Overall this is certainly a product that I would recommend anyone with pale skin to try as it achieves a nice sun-kissed glow with little effort and at a very affordable price.
