A smooth streak-free tan with good ingredients - perfect for a 'He' or a 'Shi'!

Where's the other colours? They're probably sold out! Is it that good? ...All the questions I asked myself standing infront of the shelf in Superdrug. Urrrm no! Only 1 shade here; 'light'!

The 'He-Shi Day to Day Gradual Tan' comes in a big tube (200ml) retailing at £14.59. Whilst in the store, I picked it up and went to read the ingredients, unfortunately the security tag was placed in the most awkward place possible, and upon peeling it off, I was awaiting that deadly tap on the shoulder from someone thinking I was a shoplifter! It could've been a 'He' or a 'Shi' (see what I did there!)
The ingredients are really good; there is fragrance, but it's really low on the list.
It claims to be build a 'lightly bronzed complexion' (IT DOES!), containing anti-ageing vitamin E, aloe vera and pro-vitamin B5, whilst re-hydrating your skin (YEP!)
I had intended to use this on my legs and feet because everything other than the 'San-tropez Oil' goes patchy on my legs, but the oil is very strongly fragranced, and therefore I was on the look out for an alternative! I decided to use it on my face, especially because of the nice set of ingredients, and it was brilliant - very moisturising too! It absorbs easily and dries quickly whilst giving a nice glow and hydrated feel to the skin, but it falsely claims to even out your skin tone (there's no guide colour). It claims to be anti-ageing...hmmm, it won't contribute to the ageing process, but the absence of fragrance and alcohol probably let's them justify such a clichéd sweeping statement! The colour is very light, and this is a 'dark problem' because there is only 1 colour in the entire 'range'. The colour isn't non existent, but not strong enough for my liking, it is a 'gradual tan' though! Maybe I'm just too impatient!!
I'll definitely be trying it on my legs and feet and will re use it again. I can't say how long its going to last, but I guess it lasts as long as any tan. Normally there is some patchiness on my neck after day 1 and after it's development, but there wasn't any today, so it's definitely a 'smooth, streak free tan'. It's good for all skin types; moisturising for dry skin, and not greasy for oily skin. It hasn't broken me out, so all in all, it's pretty good!

One of the best gradual tans on the market.

This review is for the He-shi day to day gradual tan. He-shi is a self tanning range from Ireland that was founded in 2004 and has received many positive reviews in beauty magazines for its natural and even look. It uses high quality and scientifically balanced ingredients and claims that regardless of the product you choose to use, you know you'll have a safe and healthy tan you can be proud of! It also states that its products are not tested on animals.

As you may know from my other reviews I have very pale skin and therefore always try and use some fake tan before I go away on holiday in the summer to give myself a bit of a glow. There are many gradual tan products on the market that claim to subtly build up a tan as part of your normal moisturising routine, and are a part way step to apply a full fake tan but I have never found them that effective in the past.

The name He-shi is meant to come from the fact that the product is aimed at both men and women and can be used by both. I'm not too sure about this as a marketing ploy. The packaging of the product is in a brown container with toffee coloured writing on it and therefore probably is quite neutral. However the smell of the gradual tan and most of other He-shi products is of very sweet strawberry - I love it but I'm not sure how many men will like this!

The product contains a range of ingredients and benefits including:

      3% organic DHA
Aloe Vera to soothe and moisturise
Vitamin B5 to improve skin condition
Vitamin E to protect against free radical damage.
      Paraben Free + Alcohol Free
      pH balanced for sensitive skin
Long lasting with its moisture lock technology infused within the range

The product is a 3 in 1 and can be used as an extender to maintain an existing tan or top up your colour between self tan applications, a moisturiser and a self tan.

On opening the flip lid the product is easily squeezed out of the tube and is quite a runny white liquid so you need to be careful that you don't get too much out in one go. When you apply it to your skin it has a gorgeous almost marshmallow consistency together with the strawberry smell which is very summery and it sinks in easily leaving your skin feeling lovely and smooth and soft.

With regards to the products ability to build up a tan it really works and quite quickly. You can build up quite a good tan in just two applications unlike many of the other cheaper gradual tans on the market where you can't really see much of a difference at times. It is therefore important to remember that wherever you do (and don't) put this product you will tan - as otherwise you can easily just put it on casually like you would a normal moisturiser and then find that you have missed some bits and have lots of white patches. You also need to remember to wash your hands afterwards!

As the tan develops the smell of strawberries sadly goes and the normal 'biscuit" tan smell does develop but luckily it is not too strong.

The colour of the gradual tan is great - not at all orange and very natural coloured. It also does not steak and tends to last for several days especially if you continue to top it up.

The gradual tan costs £14.50 for 200ml which will normally last me the whole summer and is worth it as the product actually works. Any problems with it can only be put down to human error!
