“ Brand: Vaseline / Type: Tanning / Subcategory: Tanning Spray / Tan / What it does: Tans, „
I got a spray tan offer from groupon for just £9 instead of £25 so I thought it was worth giving it a go at that price. This was my first spray tan so I was a bit nervous and wasnt sure what to expect.
When I arrived I was told to go into this small room which I was told I could wear my own knickers or the paper pants they provided, I went for there pants as I didnt fancy getting my ones ruined. I was then given a plastic shower cap to put on my hair and to undress and take my bra off. I felt a little uneasy as im not one for standing practically naked infront of anyone.
I was then asked if I wanted a light, medium or dark tan, I went for the medium as my arms and stomach are quite naturally tanned but my legs put the milky bar kid to shame so I thought this would even it out a bit.
I was then told to stand in this little tent witch was covered at the bottom as well so I could be sprayed in it. The lady first of all sprayed down my spine and wow the spray tan is freezing, I wasnt prepared for how cold it was going to be.
She then sprayed all down my back and my legs and I had to stand in different positions so she could reach everywhere and make sure it was all even. When she was spraying my front I had to clench my fists, Im not quite sure why this was.
She sprayed me around several times and at the end I had to slowly turn around so she could make sure she got everywhere.
She then dried the tan with hot air which looked and sounded like a hoover, I suppose it was a similar thing.
She then told me not to touch it and that some of the tan may gather in some places but it will turn out ok, I was told the tan would develop over 8 hours so not to have a bath/shower before then.
I was then told the tan should last about 10 days if I follow instructions and dont scrub when washing, just gently tip water over me and pat myself dry and to moisturise well after a bath.
I then got dressed and left with my lovely looking golden tan. I bathed as directed 8 hours after and done everything I should. The tan was a lovely golden colour and looked really nice.
Although it did end up being very streaky on my legs and stomach, even though days before I exfoliated as told to do beforehand.
Although the tan was a gorgeous colour it just was not even and it was so streaky and it lasted about 5 days, not sure how it would of lasted 10 days.
I am not really complaining as it only cost me £9 but there is no way its worth the original price of £25. My cheap bottle of fake tan is much better and just over £3 a bottle.
So conclusion is I think spray tans are over rated and not really that good. maybe okay if you just want it for a special occasion and you need it done quick but otherwise I would not recommend it or the high price tag that comes with it.
so because of the negatives I can only give this 2 stars out of 5.
I tried a spray tan yesterday sinply because I had never tried it before.
First of all I went into a small room and was told to undress. The girl asked if I wanted to wear my own pants, the paper ones supplied. I felt a bit more secure in my own so I kept them on. She then told me that I could keep my bra on, or take it off. I didn't exactly feel comfortable so i kept it on.
I did laugh to myself when she explained that I would need to protect my hair as it is very fair and offered a pair of paper pants. We haven't got any caps left, she told me, but these will do the same job.
So, off I went, dressed in knickers, bra and wearing paper pants on my head.
In the nextdoor room was a black screen with sides and there was a paper mat on the floor.
She asked me to stand in the booth and I had the choice of light, medium and dark tan. I chose light because I am very fair skinned and have fair hair.
I was asked to stand in all kinds of positions so that she could spray me all over. Then she asked me to close my eyes but not screw them up tight as she quickly sprayed over my face.
The whole thing took five minutes and she then gave me a nozzle which blew warm air and told me to dry myself with it. This took another five minutes, or so.
I then dressed and left, complete with my new tan.
I was told not to ruib it at all and to avoid having a shower, or bath until the next day. The tan develops over the first twenty four hours.
When I got home about five hours later I noticed that the tanning agent had collected around my neck, wrists and knees, so I went against the instructions and decided to have a quick shower. Lots of reddy brown colouring came off and I really though I had ruined my tan.
However, the next morning it still looked good. My face is a little bit too dark but it is more of a golden than an orange colour.
This treatment cost £16 and the tan lasts about a week depending on how often you bath, or shower and how much you rub it. On fairer skins it tends to stay a bit longer.
I was really pleased with this and I will do it again. However, next time I won't shower it off until the next day.
I know this is probably in the wrong place but there is nowhere else for this review to go! I had heard some bad reviews of the automated spray tanning booths...not to mention the Friends episode where Ross gets done! (He ends up tangoed) I didn't fancy a machine being in total control of my tan so I opted for a more "bespoke" option! I went along to my local beauticians and the beautician herself sprayed me with a little spray gun!
I must mention that I exfoliated well the night before...You are advised to wear very loose fitting clothes so that all your tan does not rub off on the way home before it gets a chance to develop.
As it was my first spray tan experience, she led me into the tiny room and instructed me to take off my clothes and I could either leave my own underwear on, or wear a pair of disposable paper panties, which were massive! I didn't want panty tan lines so I decided to leave my own pants on. You can be sprayed with or without your bra...so if you are a little bit wary of stripping off infront of a stranger it's ok! But I obviously didn't want tanlines so I just decided to get it done properly :)
She gave me barrier cream for the palms of my hands and you need to really make sure that you rub this into your nails so that they don't go orange! If your beautician doesn't offer this option, vaseline will do the same job.
Another vital tip...do NOT wear deoderant because you will end up with green marks on your armpits because the chemicals in it react with the tanning agent!
So when I was suitably undressed I stood infront of the black screen and waited on the beautician to come back. She asked me if I wanted it to look Light, Medium or Dark...I decided on dark! Why not?! It was for a special occasion so I needed to look my best. She asked me to stand in a selection of strange poses whilst she sprayed the fine mist all over my body. It was very cold! She was about to tan my face aswell but I was like "Hold on a sec! no way!" I had seen too many orange faced girls so I knew better. Besides, thats what your make up is for! People with spray tanned faces just look freaky!
The whole spraying ordeal only lasted about 5 minutes, and I hurried to put my clothes back on! But she told me I had to wait about 10 minutes for the tan to dry. I was very paranoid getting dressed cos I didn't want to ruin my lovely new tan! But somehow it managed to stay intact. I slept with the tan on that night (wear long sleeved things too bed unless you want orange sheets) And then the next morning, I washed it off in the shower as directed and it looked amazing!
I was very happy with the results...and now spray tanning is a regular feature in my beauty regime :) at only £20 it isn't really that expensive. It lasts for about a week if you look after yourself and apply moisturiser after every shower.
Being an impatient soul. I couldn't be bothered to have regular sun bed sessions before my holidays one year. I decided to follow the examples of Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston and invest in a MagicTan. I would have liked their figures and their money not to mention the lovely Mr Pitt but you can't have everything can you?
Everything I'd heard about MagicTan was positive so as I had a £5 coupon off the normal £25 price I booked at my nearest MagicTan centre, which just happened to be in Whitley Bay, in North Tyneside. I don't think it's there anymore but there are plenty other places throughout the country too.
**What is MagicTan?**
It's a private tanning booth, which sprays a fine mist over the body in less than a minute.
As I don't like the idea of inflicting the sight of my pasty white squishy body onto poor unsuspecting beauty salon staff, a tanning booth sounded ideal.
I was a touch nervous before my appointment so took my husband along for moral support, he just came to have a good laugh cos he expected me to turn orange. I had been advised to exfoliate and moisturise before my session, so like a good girl I did, taking extra care with the rougher, dry patches around my knees, elbows and ankles.
The salon comprised of a large waiting room area with lovely comfortable white leather settees and a beautifully tanned receptionist welcomed me. She carefully explained the tanning procedure to me and asked for medical details to ensure I was not allergic to certain things. She was very reassuring when I asked if I would turn bright orange. I was told that MagicTan has three grades of colour and she recommended that I go for the lightest as it would look too false if I opted for a darker level.
**How does it work?**
MagicTan comprises of a DHA self tanner, bronzers, aloe and moisturisers to give a streak free golden tan. The DHA sugars (or dihydroxyacetone) react naturally with protein in the skin to create a tanned colour. The particles will only stick to skin and will not stick to each other so preventing uneven patches and streaks. It is suitable for all skin types and especially good for those with freckles or who burn easily and cannot tan.
I was taken into another room, which housed what looked like a large shower cubicle in it. The receptionist explained what positions to hold in the booth and demonstrated where to use the provided barrier cream to prevent brown palms and fingers and also the soles of feet and in between my toes. The aim is to get the most natural effect possible. I was given a shower cap for my hair (attractive!) and advised to take off all jewellery and my watch.
You can leave your knickers on if you wish but I decided to be brave and tan my behind, I just hoped there was enough tanning spray available to cover it. I carefully ventured into the booth, it can be a bit slippery when your feet are smothered in barrier cream and read the instruction poster in front of me. Luckily it was in big writing as I had taken my glasses off. It reiterated everything I'd been told and had handy diagrams on the positions to hold in the cubicle, in order to attain the best coverage.
With trepidation I pushed the MagicTan button. My first position was full frontal with my arms out to my sides, palms facing frontward. I did feel stupid and was pleased no one could see me. The spray started at my feet and quickly rose up my body. Luckily it was not cold or I would have needed a wee. It felt like a fine mist was covering me. Maybe I should have closed my mouth as I did spend the rest of the session worrying about having orange teeth (luckily they were ok). This only took about 7 or 8 seconds. Once the spray stopped I had plenty time to get into the next position, which is a running position facing the side of the booth. I found this position a bit confusing, as I am totally unathletic and had never been in a running pose before. The next position is facing the rear of the cubicle and luckily there did seem to be enough spray to cover my bum. The final position is the running one again but facing the final direction. In total the MagicTan takes less than a minute.
The salon provides plenty towels to blot up the spray tan but to be quite honest I was practically dry on leaving the booth. After redressing I caught sight of my face in the mirror and was pleased to see that I had a healthy glow about me.
What really amazed me was the speed in which the tan developed, by the time I got home (about 20 minutes later); I was a lovely golden colour. This quite upset my poor husband who had practically lived in our local Stand and Tan for the past few weeks and wasn't as tanned as me. I had been advised not to shower until the next morning to ensure that the tan was properly developed and was really pleased when I did so to see that none of my lovely colour came off and I was totally streak free. I had a bit of a dirty brown patch on one of my ankles, which showed where I had been a bit lax with the barrier cream, but it was barely noticeable.
I went off on my holiday feeling a lot more confident about myself as I hate being the big white blob by the pool. The tan made me look slimmer and healthier and lasted for about seven days by which time I was starting to gradually tan.
MagicTan offers no sun protection whatsoever and it is advisable to stay sensible in the sun and use adequate sun protection at all times. Fake tans are much preferable to 'real' ones in my opinion as you get the lovely even colour without the risk of skin damage.
I can't wait for my next session.
