      L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Gradual Tan

The product I am reviewing is a Gradual Tan Lotion from L'Oreal Paris. This tanning lotion is part of the Sublime Bronze range in their self-tan range and helps to build a gradual tan day after day. This product is a lotion and gives your 24hr moisture which helps to keep your skin looking beautiful. L'Oreal claims that this product will give you a streak free golden tan. The lotion itself is enriched with a light dose of Soft-Tan, a self-tan ingredient which allows you to build a natural sun-kissed look, day after day. The lotion apparently has a velvety smooth texture and a light fragrance. The product comes in a plastic tube which stands on its lid. The tube is white and yellow in colour and has L'Oreal Paris Body Expertise in gold lettering which makes it stand out. It states on the front of the tube that this is a new formula and is a gradual tan. It also states that this is a 24hr Moisturising Lotion that builds a natural-looking tan in 4 days. It states that this is for Fair Skin (You can also get one for Medium Skin). On the back of the tube it gives you some more information about the product and how it works. It also tells you how you should apply it for best results. It clearly states that this product does not protect you from the sun or from other UV Light. You can find a list of ingredients down the bottom of the tube. The lid which is a metallic yellow colour flips open to reveal a small hole in which the lotion dispenses out of. I like having a slight tan during the warmer months and I wanted something that was going to look quite natural and not over the top. I'm not a fan of the orange look and the last thing I wanted was to end up looking like a carrot. I thought this product would be good as it's a gradual tanning lotion and it's specifically for light skin which means it would be suitable for my skin tone as I am quite pale. I haven't got on with many other self-tanning products and I find that a lot of them can go streaky which is why I thought a gradual self-tanning lotion which moisturises at the same time would be perfect. I have used Johnson's gradual tan before but wasn't very impressed with it and I found that it rubbed off on clothing and also gave my skin an orange tinge. I was hoping that this was going to be much better being made by L'Oreal.

In Boots and other stores the product is called Summer Glow Lotion, so they must have recently changed the name of the product. I paid approximately £5.00 for this product from www.mygorgeousshop.co.uk. You can also purchase this from Boots & Superdrug stores for around £4.66.

      Using the Product

Apply the product once a day, ensuring you wash your hands after application. Do not apply the product on your face and avoid contact with fabrics. So applying this product was simple and very straight forward. After having a shower and ensuring I was dry I got ready to apply the product. I flipped the lid open and squeezed the tube slightly to get some of the lotion out. A good amount of lotion was dispensed which was white in colour and had a glossy look to it. At this point I couldn't smell any kind of scent to the lotion, but I suspected I would be able to smell it more once I had applied it to my body. I would just like to add that I did exfoliate before applying the lotion and I have been using moisturiser twice a day on the run up to applying this lotion, to ensure a nice even result. As the moisturiser does contain self-tan I decided to apply the product using a self-tan mitt which can be purchase from Boots & Superdrug, this would mean that I wouldn't have to worry about washing my hands after applying the product. I decided to just apply the product to my legs at first so I could see the results. I didn't want to apply the product all over my body just in case it did look orange, patchy or un-natural. The cream was really easy to apply and it felt really cool as I applied it to my legs with the mitt in circular motions. There was a nice, fresh fragrance to the cream which was really nice as it didn't smell like the product really contained fake-tan. The scent of the product wasn't biscuity like other fake tanning products. The smell was quite strong, but it was bearable. I presumed that the scent of the product would be slightly lighter later on, once the tan/colour had developed. I found that the cream didn't take that long to sink into my skin, which meant that I could get dressed soon after applying the product.

      Results

After 1st application - I noticed that the scent of the product does tend to stay on your skin and this does turn in a little bit of a fake tan smell which I have to say am not a huge fan of. The smell was ok; how-ever I'm not sure I would be able to put up with the smell if I had applied the product all over my body. My skin felt soft where I had applied the product but I couldn't see any difference in the colour of my skin. This is a gradual tan, so I would apply it again the following evening. I was hoping with the 2nd application I would start getting a hint of colour to my skin. I re-applied the product again to my legs and after it had dried went to bed. I would assess the results in the morning.

After 2nd application - I got up and immediately looked at my legs where I had applied the product, again there was a slight hint of colour and it was slightly darker than it had been the day before, how-ever only every slightly. The colour was fairly even and it didn't look orange which was good. I have to admit that I was expecting more from the 2nd application. My skin did feel really smooth and soft though so the moisturising aspect of the lotion does actually work quite well. I had a shower as normal and applied moisturiser to my skin. After getting out of the shower I was a little surprised to notice that the colour had washed off. As this is a gradual tan that you use over 4 days I would have thought that the colour wasn't meant to have washed off quite so easily. This would mean applying the product all over again which to be honest I couldn't be bothered to do. I don't really understand how they can say that this builds a tan over 4 days when it washes off and certainly becomes so much lighter when you shower. Do they expect you now to shower for 4 days?

      Overall Opinion

I didn't really know what to expect from this product as I have never got on very well with these gradual tanning lotions before. I did think this one might be slightly different to others that are available such as Dove & Johnson's; how-ever I was clearly mistaken. I found the cream really easy to apply and the scent of the product although a little strong was fresh smelling and bearable. On first application the results were just about visible as this does only colour your skin a very slight amount. I did expect the first application to be slightly darker; how-ever as it was a gradual tan I was willing to give it a few more applications to see how good it was. I have to admit that I was again disappointed with the 2nd application as I did expect it to be a lot darker than how it turned out and I was disappointed that it didn't really make a lot of difference to the first application. The thing that annoyed me the most about this product was the fact that it washes off virtually all of the colour in the shower, meaning that it actually takes you longer to get that gradual tan or to the colour that you want. I was so annoyed with this and couldn't be bothered to start applying the product again for it to be washed off that I stopped using the product. There was really no point in applying the product if I was going to shower daily as it wouldn't give me the desired colour that I wanted. In terms of value I wouldn't have even said that the product was worth the low price that I paid for. If you are very pale, than you may like this as it will probably give you the right amount of colour with one application. You do need to apply this product properly and ensure you exfoliate well otherwise it is likely to go patchy. I won't be buying this again and I wouldn't recommend it.
