      Advantages

      Disadvantages

good quality, non-greasy sunscreen for the face and neck

Looking for sun protection for the face and neck, I came across this brand of high-quality skincare products. I have been looking out for a sunscreen for the face which does not look or feel greasy, and which does not clog up my blemish-prone skin and cause breakouts.

I have to say this is the best one I have found so far, as most sunscreens tend to feel heavy, look shiny and cause spots.

This one is a white-coloured liquid which has a runny texture. It does not have a greasy or oily feel to it, nor does it contain perfume. I do still find my skin gets a bit blemished after a day of wearing it, but not to the extent that it does with other, heavier suncreams.

So, while my quest for the ideal facial sunscreen continues, I can still recommend this one as a quality product for people who, like me, need sun protection but suffer with problem skin.

La Roche-Posay products can usually be found in larger Branches of Boots, and there should in theory be someone around in store to advise, though in my experience this doesn't always happen, so I hope this review gives an idea of what the product is like.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

I would give it more than five stars if I could

      *Why I want the product*
Since my disaster with L'Oréal Solar Expertise I went on the search once more for a decent sun protection that can be used on the face without being thick, greasy, blocking pores and breaking me out.

Everyone knows or should do by now that a sun care product is a must and not just when you go aboard. Although we have little sun compared to other countries we also have the one of the highest skin cancer rate in Europe, that in itself has got to say something.

The other reasons why I wanted a sunscreen are due to me using ingredients such as Salicylic Acid in my skin care routine that makes you're skin more sensitive to the sun, which can lead to quicker sun damage broken capillaries and age spots.

And the biggest reason is because you can purchase all the anti-wrinkle creams out there but the biggest and only reason for skin damage and ageing is due to the sun, this is more known as premature ageing that can not be reversed by skin care creams.

      *What did I find?*
I found a brand called La Roche Posay who are located in France. Unfortunately this brand is owned by L'Oreal but don't let this put you off. I was a little sceptical to say the least to try this range but this brand had more raves possible so I didn't hesitate to have a look at their products. The good news is as La Roche Posay is owned by L'Oreal you are also going to get the brilliant ingredient Mexoryl.

La Roche Posay is the only brand to offer a wide range of sun protection for different skin types, such as sensitive and sun allergy prone skin, sun protection for everyone, oily skin with imperfections and sun care for children.

Their sun protection offer high UVA and UVB protection, fragrance free, paraben-free and non-comedogenic, which means it won't block your pores. In fact La Roche Posay's sun protection is recommend the most by European dermatologists.

      *What product did I pick?*
I decide on Anthelios AC SPF 30 Extreme Fluid. Anthelios AC range is their high protection range. Anthelios has been designed for skins that are sensitive and skins that suffer from sun allergies. It is also recommend for my skin type oily with imperfections.
Anthelios AC is their SPF 30 range and comes in a range of formulas such as, Fluid, Melt in Cream, Spray, Velvety Lotion and Gel.

      *What else is available?*
Also available are, very high protection, which is their SPF 50 range (Anthelios XL) and formulas include, Fluid, Tinted Fluid, Melt in Cream, Spray, Lotion and Stick.

Medium protection (Anthelios W), which is their SPF 20 range and comes in formulas such as, Fluid, Melt in Cream, Spray, Gel and Velvety Lotion and last but not least

Anthelios Dermo-Pediatrics, which is an SPF 50 and SPF 30 range for children's delicate skin. Formulas include Lotion, Aerosol Spray and Spray.

*About Anthelios AC SPF 30 Extreme Fluid*
As with all La Roche Posay's sun protection you will find they are all fragrance free, paraben free, lighter in chemical filters (easier to penetrate into the skin), non-comedogenic and water resistant.

SPF 30 Extream Fluid offers a photostable UVA and UVB protection. Ingredient Mexoryl SX and XL, more minimalistic dermatologically tested formula. None greasy, tested on acne prone skin.

      *How does this product work?*
Thankfully this fluid doesn't contain an ingredient called Avobenzone, which means this product is photostable. The main ingredient in La Roche Posay sun protection is called Mexoryl and this is the first and only stable sun filter designed to protect from short UVA rays.

Avobenzone is an ingredient used in some sun screens that absorb the full spectrum of UV rays; this is more known as broad spectrum. Avobenzone degrades when sun light hits it giving you less protection over time, which doesn't make it good for a sunscreen of any factor.

      *What does photostable mean?*
Sunscreens are known to be photostable when the UV filters inside the product don't break down once exposed to direct sunlight unlike Avobenzone.
The active ingredient in sunscreens that protects you against the sun includes Titanium dioxide (TiO2) and Zinc oxide (ZnO).

      *What is Mexoryl?*
Mexoryl has been known as the most effect FDA approved organic filter that is designed to protect you against short UVA rays. Mexoryl has a high photostability, which is the key factor in sunscreen for protection. This means the product will maintain a higher UVA protection ability longer and will not degrade when in direct sunlight.

*Why is Mexoryl so unique compared to other ingredients?*
When UVA and UVB protective filters we're first introduced to the market, they provided minimal protection against the sun rays.

Mexoryl protects the skin by absorbing the energy of the sun's short UVA rays. Mexoryl becomes highly energised by absorbing the energy of a UV photon. Mexoryl protects against UVA rays penetrating your skin.

      *Packaging*
SPF 30 Extream Fluid comes in a 50ml hard plastic shiny bottle, which is white in colour. The white screw off lid in located on the right hand side on the bottle. Unscrewing the lid, the nozzle is very small is precise.
The front sees writing in black, orange and blue, which gives the product a clean feel without dressing it up to be a brilliant product. The front tells you the name of the product and what SPF you will receive. It tells you this product is also for sun sensitive skin.
The back of the bottle states who this product is designed for and will expire 12 months once opened.

      *What is the formula like?*
Pouring some onto the back of my hand the product comes out nearly straight away so a light gentle squeeze is all that is needed. The fluid is white in colour, very light and very runny. Spreading the product on the back of my hand I was surprised to see how quickly the product sunk into my skin, it feels more like a serum it is that light. I was left with only a light sheen to my skin while the product sank in completely, when this happened I was left with no greasy feel.
I was sure I was going to like applying this to my face.

      *Applying the product*
As with all sun care protection you apply to clean dry skin 30 minutes before sun exposure and repeat every two hours and apply after swimming.

Shaking the bottle gently before pouring some product out onto my fingers I applied a good amount to my face, paying special attention to the corners of my eyes where crows feet develop, the tops of my cheeks where I am prone to redness and sensitivity.
The product felt so light like a serum and easy to work with without constant rubbing. I was left with a slight white cast that disappeared within a few seconds as the product sank into my skin.

Once it had sunk in I was left with a subtle sheen that lasted until the product sank in completely, which took a minute or two and that is on my oily/combination skin type. I was also able to apply makeup on top in this time.

*How did it feel through the day?*
I kept my face makeup to a minimum as I knew I would have to re-apply in the day if out in the sun longer. But this wasn't a problem as I could mix a little with my mineral powder foundation and carry on with my day.

While out in the hot sun, whether it was taking my daughter to nursery, sitting in the garden or going for a long walk I never felt like my skin was burning or becoming damaged. I didn't re-apply as often as I properly needed to but I still felt like my skin was being protected.
My skin never looked shiny either with makeup on and my makeup never slid off my face thorough the day.
My skin always felt moisturised and able to breath. I have never been so impressed by sun protection.

Four weeks of applications and I am still impressed with the results from this product, Unlike L'Oreal Solar Expertise SPF 20 I never awoke to find my skin had developed little bumps where the product clogged my pores.
Although I have been out in the lovely weather I haven't noticed anymore broken capillaries and my skin is less red, which goes to show it is working its magic on me.

I have had this product for over a month and because so little is needed I am nearly half way through the bottle, but not forgetting I am only using this product on my face and neck. However I am eyeing up Anthelios AC SPF 30 Spray bottle, which can be used on the face and body. The spray comes in 200ml for £18.99 from chemistdirect.co.uk

      *Price and availability*
I bought my product from expresschemist.co.uk for £14.29 other website prices may vary.

*What I think about it/do I like it*
I can not stress enough how much I love this product, yes for 50mls it is a little expensive but your skin is an investment and will thank you later on in life.
My skin has never become irritated nor have I never broke out from using this product every day. The redness on my cheeks have calmed down and I feel my skin can breath.

*Would I purchase again and recommend?*
I would not have a problem recommending this product and the rest of the La Roche Posay sun protection to anyone. I think the range of sun protection is second to none with no nasty formulas that block pores or leave you looking like you've applied lard all over your face and body.
As you can guess I would purchase this product in a heart beat.
