I always use aftersun when I have been out in the sun even if I don't feel particularly burnt as I tend to peel very quickly if I don't use it also I think there is nothing more refreshing than having a shower and then applying some lovely cool aftersun which is why I often pop it in the fridge before use which really does make a difference.
The bottle is a bright orange colour which would be hard to mislay and it has a blue stripe near the top and a flip top. I paid £14..65 for this which isn't cheap but the bottle is a very generous 400ml so I am sure I won't have to buy another aftersun in the near future. It may not be very suitable to take away on holiday with you however unless you either use a lot of aftersun or you have a massive luggage allowance, although having said that I managed to pack it in my suitcase when we went to Cyprus a few months ago. The recommended retail price is £35 but you can get it cheaper from the website I used and you can also pick it up on Amazon and Ebay for around £15.
It has a lovely fresh and slightly sweet smell and the lotion itself is thick and creamy but it does absorb well into your skin. This aftersun is suitable for both body and face so you don't have to bother with using another product. It contains D-Panthenol, Bisabolol which are said to calm and refresh your skin for ultimate well-being and comfort. It does really seem to sink into my skin and if I have been out in the sun for too long and am feeling a bit sore it does soothe it and leaves it feeling soft and smooth. It does leave a very slight sheen on your skin so probably wouldn't be suitable for men, (which is good as I can keep it all to myself).
The lotion doesn't run off your hands when you are applying it but it does rub in to your skin easily and smoothly and doesn't leave your skin feeling sticky or greasy. This aftersun is lovely and soothing but even nicer when it is cooled beforehand in the fridge. You can get cheaper products but this one feels quite luxurious and does a great job of moisturising and soothing my skin especially if I have got a bit of sunburn and being such a big bottle it will last me for ages. I think this is a great product and I would definitely buy it again. Lancaster also do a wide range of skin care and other beauty products which I would be very interested in the next time I do an internet shop
I have used Lancaster after sun moisturising lotion on a few occasions but have only ever bought it from the airport as part of a special duo with the sun cream. It is however widely available in high end department stores on the high street and costs in the region of £25 for a 125ml bottle which although fantastic is far too high a price for it.
For the price that is charged you would expect something a bit better than just a simple moisturizer and you actually do get something better. This isn't just a plain old cream to soothe skin after being out in the sun but is actually a cream than not only helps prevent peeling and discomfort it also contains something called Heliotan which is claimed will help accelerate your body's natural melanin to actually intensify and prolong your natural tan without the need for sunless tanners.
For moisturization it contains glycerine which Lancaster says helps minimise the risk of skin peeling. I personally always try to make sure that I never burn but sometimes I can still peel a little and after using this there was no peeling. I'm not sure if it was because of this or because I made sure to keep applying sun cream but it did definitely really moisturise my skin and helped take some of the heat away from it after spending the day on the beach.
The lotion is really lightweight but heavy enough to actually feel as though it is moisturising my skin. It absorbs really well and leaves my skin feeling really silky smooth and comfortable. It also doesn't irritate my skin even on my face which can be sensitive to some products. My skin on my face can also become congested with certain creams and with this one I didn't experience that greasy clogged feeling after using it and I didn't end up breaking out in spots with it.
I'm not sure what it did for helping to darken my tan but I did notice that in combination with the Lancaster sun cream I did actually seem to have a more even and nicer coloured tan than when using other cheaper sun products.
Personally I thought this was a great after sun and if it hadn't been so expensive I would have no hesitation in recommending it to everyone to use on their holidays as it really did help my skin and calm it down but because it is so expensive I can only give it three stars as even though it is good it would have to be the most wonderful cream in the world to justify me spending £25 on an after sun on a regular basis.
I do not like the Lancaster brand but have used their After Sun Moisturising Lotion for several years and always take a bottle on holiday with me after having it recommended by one of my clients. It is a very thin lotion that is more of a milk and is designed to be used after exposure to the sun.
The After Sun has a soft creamy fragrance, it doesn't have a perfume as such which is a surprise as most products of this type in this price bracket usually have a cucumber or coconut fragrance.
I don't think the After Sun is very cooling on hot skin but it has taken away the sting of mild sunburn, for cooling effect I would recommend a gel After Sun but this may cause your skin to dry and make any peeling worse. The Lancaster product is very moisturising and this in itself helps to prevent peeling skin after you've been sunbathing, my skin always feels soft and well cared for after I've applied this milk and a little goes a long way so you don't need to feel as though you need to cover yourself in it.
I do not like the sticky feeling on my skin after I've used the After Sun but this disappears quite quickly so it's worthwhile putting up with it as the good effects are much more long lasting than this first horrible sensation. I always need to wash my hands after applying the lotion because the stickiness transfers to whatever I touch after application. It doesn't absorb very quickly and I have to rub it in very well to avoid areas of unabsorbed lotion, but once it has all absorbed it doesn't leave a residue on my skin.
I am fair skinned so peel easily and this is the best After Sun I have ever used to combat this, the moisturising effects are so good that I hardly peel at all and this is very surprising as we holiday in very hot climates so I usually arrive home with at least some level of peeling on my shoulders and back. I can see that there is a big difference in this as when we got back from our latest holiday to St Lucia my skin was brown and unpeeled instead of being brown with patches of pink where my tan had peeled away.
You could use this as a body moisturiser as well as an After Sun because it's so effective at keeping the skin soft and hydrated, I prefer to keep mine as an after sun product as it costs £32 for a 125ml bottle and I could purchase several standard body moisturisers for the same cost.
