Marks & Spencer Suntan Self Tan Spray
Advantages: Easy to apply & Great colour!
Disadvantages: The colour isn't quite dark enough for me.
I'm a fake tan addict... I think I've probably tried about thirty or so fake tanning products in my life, if not more, and I'm still on the quest to try more! There's just something about having a tan which always makes me feel better, in fact I think the majority of people look better with a tan. Luckily for me I realised a few years ago that sun beds were not the best route to go down and so have resorted to "the bottle" as it's clear that the British weather is never going to give me the year long tan that I yearn for. This year alone I reckon I've bought about seven or eight different products and another one managed to find its way onto my bathroom shelf just the other week as a result of a visit to Marks and Spencer!
Marks and Spencer's range of self tanning products is somewhat limited as it contains only a Self Tan Lotion and a Self Tan Spray, both of which are priced at £7.50. I opted for the Self Tan Spray as I always seem to opt for creams and lotions so decided to try something a bit different. It comes in a tall bottle which is a dark golden brown in colour (coincidence... I think not). It's got a clear plastic lid which is easily pulled on and off. The bottle itself contains some basic information in a black font along with the product name which is actually "Self Tan Spray for Face and Body" meaning it can also be used on your face. Overall it does look quite smart but not quite as exclusive as more expensive brands tend to.
The product is dispensed through a simple pump down spray dispenser but is not an aerosol deodorant type spray like their previous self tan spray was. Each pump will release just enough spray to cover a small area, I find I have to pump down two or three times to cover my lower arm. It's best to hold it slightly away from your body so it disperses a little before it reaches your skin. I always tend to rub it in to ensure even coverage and to avoid having large blobs of fake tan in one area. It dries within a minute or two to leave my skin feeling grease free and soft. Unfortunately there is a slightly off putting "fake tan" scent to this, it's not as strong as some fake tans I've used but it is there nevertheless.
It's recommended that you apply this fake tan after exfoliating to achieve longer lasting results and it will take a few hours to develop so it's best to apply it at night. The bottle recommends that you can build the colour up by reapplying every two to three days which I tend to do or that you can apply it every day for an intense colour. The next morning my skin always looks tanned without any patches! It gives my skin a light golden glow, it's not obvious that I'm wearing fake tan but it does make me look as though I've been out in the sun for a day or two. It's probably one of the more natural fake tans I've used as it does require a couple of applications in order to gain an intense (and very noticeable) tan.
After I've used this for about four or five days I find that it can go a little patchy as it starts to wear off and find it best to exfoliate to remove all the old fake tan and to start again. This doesn't seem to be a negative as such, more like a regular effect that happens with most fake tans. I personally would thoroughly recommend this fake tan, at £7.50 for 200ml it's a great price compared to designer brands yet the colour and evenness it gives is the same as that of a designer brand. I'm giving it four stars, it looses one due to the colour being ever so slightly too light for me after just one application. So next time you're in Marks and Spencer why not treat yourself, and avoid being a milk bottle this winter!
Thanks for reading.
