“ Brand: Maybelline / Type: Body Butter / What it does: Bronzes, „
I am always on the lookout for fake tan products that give a nice sun-kissed glow and don't end up making you look orange or streaky. I can't stand girls who go out and glow under the lights from looking so orange. I want a subtle tan which gives me good coverage and blends easily.
Maybelline New York make a huge range of cosmetics and beauty products including make up for face, eyes, lips and nails and they also do a bronzing range which is where the product I am reviewing is from. Their products are available to buy from stores such as Boots and Superdrug and are very well priced compared to other brands of makeup. I have used a number of cosmetics form this brand and I always find them to be good quality and good value. I would definitely recommend anyone to try any of their products as there is something to suit everyone tastes and occasions.
***DREAM SUNGLOW BRONZING MAKE-UP***
This Dream Sunglow Instant Bronzing Make-Up from Maybelline New York comes in a 125ml squeezy tube with different colours to suit all skin tones. This bronzing make up leaves a matt look and can be used on the face and body for a sun-kissed look. This make-up stays put all night and washes off easily with soap and warm water. They also claim that this doesn't rub off on clothes either. This make-up is available in 2 different shades including Fair and Medium. You can buy this from Boots or Superdrug and it will cost you about £5.00.
***PREPARING MY BODY FOR THE TANNING***
Before using this fake tan I prepared my body a few days before by using a body brush to get rid of dry skin and using a good exfoliating bar in the shower. I then moisturised my whole body day and night for about 2 days before putting this tan on. This helps to achieve a flawless look and won't make your tan look patchy either.
***PUTTING IT TO THE TEST***
I was quite surprised at how dark this product was when I put some of this onto a self tan mitt ready to rub into my legs. This product isn't a cream; it's more like a gel and is a very dark brown colour a bit like dark chocolate colour. This did make me worry a bit as I thought that this make-up would be way too dark for me even though I choose the colour for Fair skin tones. How-ever I decided to proceed and put some of the gel onto the self tan mitt and rubbed this onto my legs using circle movements. I find using circle movements to rub the gel in is less likely to cause streaking, rather than rubbing it up and down my legs (like I'm painting a wall, lol).
The colour didn't go onto my legs as dark as the gel looked when it came out of the tube, it rubbed in very nicely and gave a lovely sun-kissed colour to my skin. I thought I would go to my room where the full length mirror was for a better look. I was very pleased with the results. I had a lovely glow to my skin and it wasn't streaky or patchy and it looked very natural. The best thing about this fake tan is that it doesn't smell either, so after you have applied the tan you don't have to go around smelling like biscuits!
I put this tan on before a night out on the town. (It does say leave this 5mins before getting dressed), but I thought I would leave it for 10 minutes just in case. A few of my friends asked what fake tan I had used as they said it looked very natural and not streaky. Sure enough the tan stayed on all night and didn't rub off either. It was very easy to wash off next morning in the shower using soap and warm water.
***TIPS AND HINTS***
* Shave/Wax about 2 days before you want to tan otherwise the tan will go into your pores making it look like you have spotty legs.
* Using a body brush to brush off any dead skin cells and make your skin super smooth and ready for the shower.
* When in the shower use a really good exfoliating scrub/bar to make your skin extra smooth ready for self tanning.
* Moisturise a few days prior to tanning, you don't want to moisturise on the day otherwise it may cause your tan to look a bit patchy. How-ever if you are planning on putting the tan on in the evening you could moisturise in the morning.
* I find this product rubs in very well using a self tan mitt which you can buy from boots or Superdrug. Using one of these gives an even coverage and won't leave you with orange/stained nails either.
I thought this was a great self tan product and I was very pleased with the results. It's an affordable price and is easy to wash off which is a bonus. It doesn't transfer onto clothes which is great, especially if you are wearing a white dress or top. They have 2 different shades to suit different skin tones and you can always apply more product if you want to achieve a darker, deeper tan. If you are looking for a simple self tan product I would definitely recommend this one.
There is just one thing I would like to know about this product but can't comment on it because it hasn't rained yet. If this washes off I'm not too sure how well it would last if it was raining outside. That maybe the only down-side to this product as it may or may not leave your legs looking streaky!
