I have been fake tanning for 10 years and have tried all the main ones, from drugstore to premium. This was the first airbrush tan I had tried and also my first ModelCo product. I heard about this product when Victoria Beckham mentioned that she used it in one of her books, which is what persuaded me to give it a go.
You must shower and exfoliate before application.
Be warned; the self-tan product is released in a large fine mist which manages to tan everything in sight. It's advised to spray 20cm away from your skin, which results in wasted product everywhere! I would advise that you apply this is in your garden, in your bathroom or in the shower. I applied this in my bathroom whilst standing on a towel as my shower is quite small and you need a lot of room. Please stay away from carpet when using this!
I started applying this from my ankles and moving upwards. As soon as you spray you must rub in the product in circular motions or it will go runny and streak. I don't use gloves or a mitt, just my hands. The can still sprays when turned upside down so it's easy to apply to the backs of your legs, however it's very hard to apply to your back without someone helping you as it's hard to continue holding the spray at the recommended distance as well as aiming it right. I even used this on my face too.
The smell of this product is gorgeous! Even better than Xen-Tan! It's a light sweet fruity fragrance that gets stronger as the tan develops, but is in no way unpleasant.
After applying the product I wipe the bottoms of my feet as you are basically standing in fake tan, as well as my white bathroom walls and wash my hands.
Unlike self-tanners which have a strong colour guide, the colour guide of this lighter, so you could get away with wearing this around your house and not scaring anyone. I still prefer to sleep in this as is recommended with other self-tanners. You will wake up with fake-tan stains on your sheets unfortunately, but these will wash out.
After waking up and rinsing off the slight colour guide, I am left with a beautiful tan! This tan makes me look beautifully sun-kissed as there is a slight gradient of colour on your skin which sounds weird, but it makes your tan look much more natural. I find that Fake Bake and St Tropez give more of a sun-bed deep dark all-over tan and that's not the look I want. I want a tan that looks like I haven't tried but is still strong and with this I've achieved just that.
There is also a slight shimmer which makes my skin look radiant. This is the best finish I've had with a fake tan.
I am very pale (NW15 in MAC) and this gives me a colour a shade slightly lighter than St Tropez.
I didn't have any break-outs on my face, but I am not prone to breaking out so I would be careful when using it there if you have quite oily skin.
I do still get streaks sometimes if I haven't rubbed in the product well enough, especially around my armpits. It can be quite hard to tell what areas you have missed.
As the tan fades it does get patchy, so you have to moisturiser, but the tan is quite easy to exfoliate off when in the bath, or with a towel on damp skin.
This is a luxury product, but it's not a perfect product. The application can be difficult, time consuming and messy, however it develops without a horrible scent and into a beautiful sun-kisssed glowing tan. I quickly became converted to this until I noticed how quickly I was going through it. I would use a whole can every 2months! I bought this in the UK at the RRP of £34. I really like this product but I had to give it up because of the cost and the mess. I found it in America for half the price, but did not purchase as I was worried it would explode on the plane otherwise I would of snapped them up in a heartbeat. Instead, now I use Xen-Tan, more of your basic fake tan lotion but much cheaper and less effort.
