Advantages: brilliant for sun protection for kids
Disadvantages: can be expensive
On the rare occasions we get the sun shining in lovely London and whenever we go abroad on holiday, I always carry around this Nivea Children's sun lotion with SPF (Sun Protection Factor now we all know what that stands for!) 50+. Since a child, my mum always used nivea on us as kids and so in turn I stuck with the tradition and have religiously bought this brand and used it with my now 3 year old daughter.
It has been especially developed for sensitive baby skin and is suitable from babies from 3 months to toddlers. It is a slightly white-creamish liquid with a hint of a silver glimmer in it. It is not slimy or greasy, but is easy to apply to my little one's skin and it soaks in nicely and gently and doesn't leave any streaks or shine. I love this cream as it has ingredients with a combination of with Vitamin E, Panthenol and natural Almond Oil, which leave my daughters skin cream and well nourished, yet 100% protected and I feel it does a great 2 in 1 job.
Instructions are simple and straightforward: apply before sun exposure, enough to give a visible layer before rubbing in, (so it sits on the skin in a white-ish blue-ish coloured layer) and then let it dry. Next, reapply the cream all over the body to ensure adequate coverage and no missed areas.
Whenever we go on holiday we follow these instructions, and always apply a more liberal amount when at peak times of heat such as between 11-3, and still try our best not to keep her in direct sunlight as we don't want too many harmful UV rays or for her to burn. Using this nivea cream honestly has protected our daughter fantastically as she has never suffered any sunburn when this has been applied and she always tans quite evenly and nicely! (Although I feel to add it is not our intention she needs a suntan or anything!) Another positive about this nivea children's sun lotion is that it has long-lasting water resistance. When we have used it on holiday, after application she has gone in the sear or swimming pool and even after being in water, the cream lasted long and did not wash off so easily, although we did re-apply throughout the day as you can never be too careful!
Of course sun tan lotions are not cheap, and the better the brand and the more SPF factor the more the price, so as a general I believe we pay around £8 for a bottle of this suntan lotion in superdrug, but saying this they often go on offer for buy one, get one free or similar deals so I usually wait for this and then stock up! It is a cream I will be using in the future for the long term, and would definitely recommend to all wanting to protect their little ones from the sunshine!
