As well as offering a range of skin, bath and body products, Nivea also has a 'Sun' range. The Sun range includes various creams and sprays for adults and children to ensure their skin is protected from the harmful effects of the sun.
*Nivea Sun Kids*
When looking to purchase a sun care product for your child, Nivea has it well covered. They offer 7 sun care products including a cream for applying before swimming, a baby lotion, a coloured spray and sensitive sprays and lotions.
For the purpose of this review, I will be discussing our use of the 'Nivea Sun Kids Pure and Sensitive Sun Spray'.
This spray offers 'very high' protection (SPF 50 to be exact) and is water resistant. It is different from the regular kids sprays as it is designed with sensitive skin in mind. It contains a formula which reduces the risk of skin allergies and has UVA/UVB protection. The important aspects of this spray include it being free from :
This sun spray should be applied regularly and reapplied after towelling or swimming to ensure your child is fully protected. Several warnings are given for parents to remember not to allow children to be exposed to direct sun light and use protective clothing including hats and t shirts where possible.
This sun spray is presented in a white, plastic bottle with convenient finger indents down each side. It has all the neccesary information and warnings present. There is an orange cap which fits perfectly on the bottle and prevents any leakages. The sun spray is dispensed through a pump applicator. This spray has a shelf life of 12 months.
*Price and Availability*
A 200ml bottle should provide sufficient sun spray for 13 full body applications. This is based on using it on a small child. It can be purchased in various stores and chemists including Boots and Wilkinsons. This spray retails at £15.00 but can often be found on offer. Boots currently offer it at just £7.49. They also offer the lotion version for £6.49.
Whilst Scotland isn't known for its brilliant weather, we do have the odd warm few days here and there. Recently, we have witnessed temperatures of up to 25c. With my 4 year old son being at nursery 3 days a week and out with his Mummy or Gran on his days off, I needed to make a quick purchase of sun lotion to protect his beautiful skin. My son has, in the past, took skin reactions to certain sun creams so it is important that I purchase one suitable for his skin.
Last year we used the regular Nivea sun spray and whilst this was fine for his skin, his skin has become more sensitive over the past year. We bought our bottle of Pure and Sensitive from Wilkinsons for around the £6.00 mark which I feel is a fair price for Nivea and one cannot really put a price on protecting a little ones precious skin! Having used this on my son quite a lot recently, we have been impressed with it and will be purchasing another bottle for our trip away next month.
*Ease of Use and Protection*
This sun spray is very easy to apply. The pump applicator is easy to operate even with sticky hands. One press releases a decent amount of creamy, fairly thick sun lotions. It has a slight, alcohol scent at first but when rubbed into the skin, it seems to have a very faint, typical sun lotion scent. Whilst this isn't a coloured spray, it is very easy to see where I have applied this to my sons skin. I tend to a bit of skin at a time (ie his arms, legs, back of neck) and rub it in until the creamy layer disappears. It does feel a little sticky once absorbed but this is short lived.
I apply a small amount to his face (which is very sensitive and dry) and it does appear quite moisturising and certainly non-drying on his skin. He hasn't reacted to this spray at all and it is very gentle on the skin. I have used a small amount of my own sensitive skin recently and found it to be cooling and gentle too. My son is always well covered at nursery and when out and about including wearing a hat, sunglasses and usually shorts and t shirts if its really nice.
SPF 50 is a very high factor and definitely perfect for a toddler who is running about a lot. I am happy to confirm he has experienced no sun burn or discomfort and this sun spray has protected his skin well. During the two full days he attends nursery, I apply in the morning and if it is very warm, I go down at lunch time to apply some more as the nursery aren't allowed to apply it for some reason. I am always careful to keep him in the shade during the really hot hours at home as well as you can never be too careful.
We have also applied this to our sons skin prior to swimming and also when playing in his paddling pool at his Grans and it has protected his skin well. It takes very little time to reapply once out the water as it rubs into the skin quickly. It is a handy size to take in your bag to the beach, play parks and on holiday as you never know when Mr Sunshine will put in a rare appearance!
Overall we can recommend this sun spray. It has provided us with more than sufficient sun protection for our son and doesn't irritate his sensitive skin. Our current bottle is nearly finished and I can confirmed we got around 15 applications but this would probably be less if using abroad as most skin is exposed etc. I would recommend this sun spray for children with really sensitive skin as it is very gentle yet still protects them from harmful rays.
Thanks for reading :)
