A lovely body lotion which softens the skin and protects you from the sun

I really like the Palmers Cocoa Butter Body lotion and I have bought it for many years. When I went to repurchase my most recent bottle, I noticed my old favourite and reliable body lotion by Palmers with an added SPF 15. I snapped up the product right away.

      What does the product do?
The product gives all of the benefits of the normal body lotion. It contains pure cocoa butter to deeply hydrate and strengthen the skin while nourishing it. Vitamin E is included for the same purposes and to also remove skin aging toxins from the body to keep it looking younger for longer. Vitamin E also helps to even out the skin tone and reduce the appearance and stretch marks and scars. It promises to deeply moisturise the skin leaving it supple, soft and smooth for hours. The added benefit of this bottle is that it contains SPF 15 UVA/UVB protection so it will protect your skin from getting burnt or damaged by the sun.

How do you use the product?
Day to day, the product can be applied to clean, dry skin as a normal body lotion. It can be applied all over the body and massaged into the skin until it has been fully absorbed. It can be reapplied as often as needed. When being used as a sun cream, the lotion needs to be applied generously all over the body and it must be applied before the skin is exposed to the sun. You need to reapply the lotion in these circumstances frequently and after swimming.

      Packaging and Price
The product comes contained within a plastic bottle which looks similar to the original body lotion. It is white in colour but the label has a more bronzed appearance to show that this one is also a sun lotion. It has a flip top lid which is easy to open and close even with slippery hands and the product is easily dispensed from the bottle when you squeeze it. The product will cost you around £4 for 250ml of the lotion and it can be bought from stores such as Boots and Debenhams, large supermarkets and also from a variety of online websites.

      Application and Performance
This product is not very different to the original body lotion which is what I was hoping for. It has a rich and thick consistency which is a lot thicker than your usual body lotion and is closer to being a butter. It is a creamy beige colour and it has the most gorgeous chocolaty aroma. It doesn't smell like real chocolate and I know some people really hate the smell of this as it has a certain dryness to it but I love it and always have. You need to ensure that you do like the fragrance because it does linger on the skin long after use.

The product has a lovely consistency and it glides onto the skin nicely. As the formula is so rich you will find that a little goes a long way with this product. It instantly soothes my skin and removes all feelings of tightness and dryness, and leaves it feeling hydrated and moisturised. It is absorbed fairly quickly by the skin although you do need to massage it in. It doesn't leave you feeling greasy or unclean as some sun lotions can and other than a healthy sheen, it doesn't leave you looking greasy either. The aroma is very present and would be overpowering and sickly if you don't like it but I love it lots!

The product does make my skin feel so silky and soft. I used this product to wear to work during our little heat wave. I applied it instead of my usual body lotion in the morning and it stopped me getting burnt during the day. I am only outside during breaks intermittently but it stopped my skin going red while allowing me to tan. I'm not sure how much I would trust this on a proper holiday where your skin is exposed all day but as an added layer of protection in this country, I really like it. As it is so hydrated, it stopped my skin from becoming tight and dry, and it stopped my skin from peeling or flaking.

      Conclusion
All in all, this is every bit as good as the usual cocoa butter body lotion so if you love that, then you'll love this. The aroma won't be for everyone so try before you buy but I really like it. It keeps my skin really soft and smooth for hours and it stopped my skin burning during our mini heat wave. I wouldn't buy this to take on holidays with me but it works well in this country and it allows you to know that your skin is always protected. I will definitely be repurchasing this once my bottle has run out.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Its not my favorite product in the palmers range.

I think its easy to get lazy and forget to moisturise and its even easier to forget your SPF protection! Especially as the weather is so pants at the moment! That's why I purchased Palmers coco butter with SPF 15. I've always used coco butter products as they make my skin feel so soft and smooth and to add in the SPF is just a brilliant idea.

      Price ?
I think it's a really good price, normally you seem to pay alot more for products with an SPF, Not with this.

      Does it work?
Yes, I believe so. I spent a few rare hot days in the garden after applying this in the morning and I didn't burn or go red like I normally do, so I defo think it was protecting my skin.
However I wouldn't replace my normal Sun Lotion with this if I was going away somewhere really hot!

      Application.
You just apply as you would your normal moisturiser. Its quite thick, just like the rest of the palmers range in my opinion, but I like that as my skin is so dry.
It did seem to take a while to soak in and I felt quite "tacky" for a while which I didn't like.

      Smell.
I don't like the smell. It seems too over perfumed for my liking. Perhaps the ingredients for the SPF element are smelly and they need a stronger smell to mask it, I don't know.

      WARNING!
I wore a white t-shirt, and this product stained it. ! Not a happy faye !

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Gorgeous product and a lot cheaper than some in the performance range

Ever conscious of my age creeping up and wanting to protect the skin all over my body and not just on my face, I've found myself reaching more and more often for body lotions in recent months.

With the warm weather we had in March I've also realised how awful I am at remembering to put on sun protection - unless I really know I'm going out, to work on my allotment or to a sporting event in the warmer months - I find it virtually impossible to remember to apply some form of protection to my arms and shoulders mostly because I usually would be working indoors or commuting, so the actual exposure is quite minimal but it certainly does add up in summer.

One brand that has never let me down as a moisturising range is that of Palmers, the Cocoa Butter-based range of body, hand and lip moisturisers that have seemingly been popular for ages. So, when I saw this SPF 15-inclusive version, I had to give it a try.

      ***THE PRODUCT***
Most women know of Palmers Cocoa Butter Moisturiser. This rich, creamy, smooth buttery-coloured cream squeezes thickly from the quite plain-looking white plastic bottles and instantly wallops your senses with a blast of chocolately-scented aroma, which I have always found not only deeply pleasant to wear but also that it stays on your skin, subtly lingering in the background, whilst the cream quickly soaks in to your skin and keeps it supple, smooth and above all, soft.

So when a version comes along offering SPF protection as well, I was always going to be a hook / line / sinker candidate - SPF protection in my facial moisturisers and lip products is a must-have for me so this was always going to be warmly received.

This product also contains Vitamin E, my second favourite moisturising component over the years, so a further bonus there; this can aid the appearance of scars and stretch marks, helping the skin look more youthful and toned.

      ***IS THIS VERSION ANY GOOD?***
I'm lucky in that I don't suffer from aggressively dry skin on my body although after a cold winter I've noticed that I have accumulated some minimal stretchmarks over the years which are more noticeable now that my skin is at it's most washed-out and pale. So, if this cream could deliver on those claims, I would be delighted.

Also I have noticed that the skin on my cleavage and legs isn't as taut and youthful looking as it has been, occasionally lending it a tired, dull look particularly when now out in the harsher early spring sunshine. At this stage I'm thinking not only about soothing existing flaws but also preventing further damage, so I have been applying this cream about twice or three times a week.

The cream, like my previous Palmers efforts, is quite thick and on an early morning I advise you rub it between your hands to get some body temperature in there or you could get a bit of a shock, as this can be quite cool in winter in particular! This action of rubbing it between your hands shows you how buttery this is, because the body heat starts to loosen the mixture straight away and also melts away any product that might have gone slightly solid as it dries on the bottle opening.

The product comes in a white, stand-up flip-top squeezable bottle and because this cream has a butter, thick texture you sometimes have to give it a good shake upside down before opening to move the product down to the opening. On the bottle is a label claiming that this smoothes marks and tones skin, that you have 250ml (in Boots this is just over £5 at present) and that this has SPF 15 UVA / UVB protection. There is further product information on the reverse; such as that it contains the Palmers 100% pure Cocoa Butter plus additional Vitamin E and protection effects. As with all beauty products it is best to read the label for any warnings, for example this one stresses to keep this out of the way of children - understandable as they often assume that what smells like chocolate will taste like it!

So upon dispensing this cream I notice that, like all the creams in the range, you do not need to use a huge amount at once; indeed if you do I feel that you will retain the feel of the cream on the skin which in summer in particularly could be too cloying and sticky. A little goes a long way and whilst at first you may think you are not putting a lot on, remember that this spreads beautifully and melts into your warm skin, so covers more than you might think. I use this all over, and now can enjoy the residing chocolatey scent as well as knowing that it offers some protective benefit, although at SPF 15 I would of course advise a far higher block in strong sunshine.

I have noticed that my skin is already looking firmer, less stressed and happier. I feel a lot better in it and enjoy treating myself to this cream, so I think that for £5 approximately this is a good buy in a world when £10+ body butters are virtually the norm. I have used this range for years and have never had reason to change, nor have I ever not had a bottle in my cupboard.

I have not been using this every day or for long enough to expect stretchmark miracles but as my skin is overall less stressed and feels softer and smoother, I am a lot happier about them and also happier that further damage is not being sustained.

All in all I strongly recommend this product but with the caveat of common sense that SPF 15 is helpful and a nice bonus if you're just going to be in light sunshine briefly on-and-off, but if you will be in prolonged exposure in the stronger months of sunshine then a higher level of protection is highly advisable. But this is a gorgeous, soothing, rich cream that makes your skin feel brilliant - believe me, there have been compliments to that - and I would add that unlike some creams, the amount of residue that washes off in the bath at night is nothing like some other products I've used, which to me suggests the majority of this cream has soaked into your skin and is doing you good, rather than sitting there clogging your pores until you wash it off! A gorgeous, lovely product.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A very good quality moisturiser - just make sure you test it in the shop first!

I've never used Palmer's products before but I've heard good things about the brand and needed an SPF moisturiser for the Summer so I decided to give this one a go. The bottle is has quite a distinctive shape and labelling so it is easily identifiable on the shelf as palmers.

It cost about £3.75 for 250ml which I thought was average value, there are certainly cheaper options out there but whether they would be as good quality is very debatable!

I found the butter quite easy to dispense, it is thick and a sort of warm creamy yellow colour. It applies easily and seemed to absorb well into my skin without being too greasy. It does it's moisturising job well since it is has such a thick consistancy, it doesn't suffer from being too watery or greasy like a lot of body butters I have used in the past. On the other hand this means it doesn't go very far so to cover larger areas you have to use a fair amount of product. It did do a good job of moisturising my skin and after regular use I did notice a marked improvement in my skin.

The product also offers SPF15 protection and protects against UVA and UVB. I wouldn't recommend using it on very hot days instead of a suncream as SPF15 is nowhere near enough protection but for daily use throughout the spring/summer is protects your skin from any unexpected bouts of sunshine throughout the day!

The main reason I have given this product 3 stars is that I couldn't stand the smell! I really should have tested it in the shop but I was in a bit of a rush so, assuming I would like the smell (it's cocoa for goodness sake!) I bought it anyway. The smell is quite distinct, it's sweet with a hint of cocoa/chocolate underneath. I found it quite overpowering and the smell does linger once you have applied the moisturiser, however I found it sickly smelling and eventually stopped using the product because of it. However, if on the other hand, you happen to love the scent then it is long lasting so this could be seen as a good point - it just wasn't for me.

Smother over your skin for a beautiful body

This stuff is amazing! It's my number one body moisturiser and I use it all the time. I've always been a fan of the Palmers Cocoa Butter range of moisturisers and this one is my favourite so far.

I first discovered their stuff when I was quite young. I'd watch my glamorous Auntie smother herself in the stuff after getting out of the shower and can still remember her saying, "This is the best stuff you can get. When you're a big girl, make sure you use this." She would smell amazing. So, when I did grow up and become a big girl I decided to do exactly as my Auntie had said.

My mum was diagnosed with skin cancer five years ago and as such, SPF is top of my agenda when choosing any skin care product. The fact that this lotion has SPF 15 built in means I don't have to worry about being exposed to the skin's damaging rays when I least expect it. No-one applies sunscreen to visit the shops or to go to work but it's surprising how many times your skin will be exposed during a normal day so I love the fact that my normal moisturiser is now protecting me all the time!

Aside from this the lotion smells divine. Almost like caramel at times! People who wear it will instantly recognise the scent and countless girl friends have commented on the yummy smell of my skin.

It's moisturising qualities are excellent and I would say the best you can buy. I've got quite dry skin and it sucks up the moisture from other brands within an hour or so but with Palmers lotion I find that my skin feels moisturised for the whole day.

The texture of the lotion is thick and very creamy, almost like custard! In fact, it's so creamy and thick that it's quite hard to splodge out of the bottle when it's running out so I would recommend that you begin to store it upside down when you're getting to the end of the bottle. The flat lid makes this easy peasy to do so that's another simple reason why I love this lotion! It has a creme caramel type colour to it so you can clearly see when it's all rubbed into the skin. I spend a good few minutes rubbing the lotion in and then leave a few minutes before putting any clothes on so it doesn't rub off. I'd recommend this to anyone because the lotion is so thick you will need to give it a little time to soak in.

The effect's are brilliant. Not only are you moisturised for a whole day but your skin seems to glow. It does not look greasy or oily like some moisturising lotions do so this yet another reason why I love this stuff! I swear it does actually tone your skin up when you use it over quite a long period of time. (Don't,, however, be thinking that cellulite will magically disappear over night with it though because it isn't THAT amazing). I haven't got any marks so I can't comment on whether it smoothes them but I'm sure it will help in some way because of the Vitamin E that is added as skin loves a good dose of nature's good stuff.

I have even used this Palmers lotion as an after sun when I ran out of proper after sun lotion on a holiday abroad and found that it was actually better at soothing my skin and replenishing the moisture. I kept it in the fridge and it was even more effective as a result!

      A brilliant moisturiser from Palmers

I love Palmers Cocoa Butter body lotion, so when I saw that they had added an SPF 15 to their range I just had to try it. I purchased this from Boots for £4.99 for a 250ml sized bottle.

The first thing you will notice with regard to Palmer's Cocoa Butter body lotion is the amazing smell. It is almost like a very creamy, but very light chocolate scent. It's almost good enough to eat! That's because Cocoa Butter is the edible vegtable fat extracted from the cacao bean, so now you know!

The lotion itself is a creamy yellow colour, and has a very nice silky consistency, it is instantly absorbed and leaves your skin feeling soft, supple and hydrated. There is no tell tale greasy residue, it sinks in and leaves skin feeling in tip top condition. I love the fact that there is an spf15 added to the lotion, not that you would ever know, as it in no way feels like a sunscreen, which to me, is a good thing, because first and foremost, I have bought this to moisturise, and secondly to protect my skin from the daily ageing efffects of UV rays.

I also love the fact that I can still smell the cocoa fragrance on my skin hours later. I was a bit worried the first time I used it that, due to the scent, my sensitive skin would react, but I'm pleased to say, that it is fine. No reaction at all, so it's great for sensitive skinl

This lotion also contains vitamin E which is great for helping to protect skin from premature ageing. This formula manages to keep my skin hydrated all day. I apply it after my shower first thing in the morning, and when I return from work, my skin still feels nice, supple and hydrated.

I would definitely recommend this body lotion, great fragrance (especially for chocolate lovers - chocolate fix - no calories!) and moisturises really well. Give it a try, I'm sure you will love it!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

You can protect your skin from the sun as well as keeping it soft

        WHY I BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT?
I suffer from extremely dry skin and I'm also very aware of protecting my skin from sun damage so when I discovered my favorite ingredient, cocoa butter in a product offering SPF 15, UVA/ UVB protection I jumped at the chance to try it when I saw it on offer. With summer fast approaching I thought this would be a good every day alternative to sun-screen as the product smells nicer and isn't greasy like most sun-screens.

        WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
The product contains Vitamin E and claims to smooth marks and tone skin. It contains 100% cocoa butter which even though if claims not to feel greasy does slightly when first applied, but sinks in properly after about 15 minutes. It also smells yummy, the fragrance is light and sweet. The SPF protection prevents the skin from prematurely aging and reduces the chances of skin cancer if used regularly

        IS IT VALUE FOR MONEY?
Even though the packaging looks extremely dated and cheap it really doesn't reflect the quality of the product inside. I bought it in Superdrug for £3.99 on offer down from £4.99 for 350 ml. I think this is a reasonable price to pay for the quality and quantity you are getting.

        EASE OF USE
I chose the bottle that had a cap dispenser but the same product is also available in a pump action bottle and in a tub so you can choose which ever method of applying you prefer.

        WOULD I BUY IT AGAIN?
Yes, absolutely! This is a quality product that does more than just keep for skin soft and smooth, it protects it from harmful sun damage and smells gorgeous.

          Body Lotion

I bought this cream in boots one day just by chance as i needed a body lotion and it was on sale. It was also the middle of summer and thought it was great that this body lotion clearly stated that it had an SPF 15.

The cream is quite thick and has a buttery texture, but has really gorgeous feeling. The consistancy of the product makes it feel quite luxurious. The thing i love most about this cream is the smell. It is amazing!

I recommend anyone to buy this cream as it really moisturises your skin. It would be really good for people with dry skin as it is quite thick. Its also good during summer or when you're on holiday and your can get quite dry with the sun.

In comparison to similar brands it is about the same price, but boots and superdrug etc regularly have special offer on and such.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A lower priced moisturiser that smells great with above average results

I'm massively into my beauty and skincare products but surprisingly have never been one for body moisturisers. Mainly because I have been very lucky that my skin is soft and I never have suffered from overly dry skin. However since getting pregnant I have found that I have developed a number of dry patches of skin on various parts of my body. It was recommended from friends that I try Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula which not only moisturises skin it smoothes marks and one friend even claimed that it " helps minimise stretch marks", so I decided to give this product a go.

          ***Packaging***

The packaging is not the most attractive. This is a white plastic bottle with a flip top lid. The bottle is not at all see through therefore it is difficult to judge how much product is left in the bottle.

I bought this in the 350ml size and feel that the bottle is quite bulky therefore not the best of products to travel with. The product also comes in a 200ml size which is smaller but the rounded shape of the bottle makes it a less practical bottle to pop in a travel bag.

The Palmers branding is in a bright orange oval in the centre of the bottle. The colours on the bottle are not the most attractive .

The product is dispensed through a hole in the top of the bottle. This is quite small which helps to ensure not too much product is squeezed out of the bottle. However because the product is quite thick it does mean that the product doesn't easily come out of the bottle.

          ***Price***

I bought this product in Asda and for a 350ml bottle this cost me £4.29. I found that this was very good value for money for the amount of moisturises that is in the bottle and the product seems to last a long time. I have been using this product daily for a month now and I am still only half of the way through the bottle and I feel that I have been applying quite liberally.

          ***Product & Application***

Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula is described on the front of the bottle as a body lotion which helps to sooth marks and tone skin and contains vitamin.

The description on the back of the packaging states that: "Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula SPF 15 Body Lotion moisturises and nurtures your skin daily. This unique formula combines the ultra moisturising properties of 100% pure Cocoa Butter and Vitamin E. This broad spectrum coverage helps protect skin against damage cause by sun exposure and prevents future signs of aging. This moisturising non greasy lotion is ideal for everyday use."

There is no mention on the bottle that this product is for sensitive skin therefore those with more sensitive skin may be better suited to a different product.

The bottle does state that Palmers is against animal tested and therefore this product is not tested on animals.

As soon as you open the lid you can smell the moisturiser. It has a very strong cocoa scent very much like chocolate. I think this is a gorgeous scent but it is quite sickly. I apply this product at night after bathing however if you apply this in the morning you may find that it over powers perfume as the scent is quite strong and sweet.

The moisturiser itself is a light yellow creamy colour. When this is squirted into your hand the consistency is very thick and is almost quite jelly like in its texture.
The product easily rubs into skin as it is very greasy. A 50p piece size of product is enough to use on two legs and apply quite liberally. I found this very surprising as this amount of other moisturisers I have used would only ever cover one leg.

Once I had applied this moisturiser all over my body I felt this was slightly greasy and that the product did not live up to claims that it was a non- greasy formula. The product does absorb into skin quite quickly and after around 5 minutes the greasy feeling disappears and I then will get dressed as my skin feels dry.

          ***Results***

After the first use of this product my skin smelt gorgeous and felt quite soft so immediately I noticed a difference in the feel of my skin. After around 5 days of using the product daily my skin looked and felt much softer and the dry patches on my skin had completely disappeared.

I have been using this product for around a month now. My skin looks a lot smoother and I noticed that some slight scars I had on my legs have faded and are less noticeable. All of the dry patches that I had have completely disappeared.

I have been using this product on my stomach to keep my bump (which can hardly be called a bump as it is still so small at 25 weeks) soft and hopefully keep stretch marks at bay. So far I have no red marks on my bump however my mother and grandmother did not get stretch marks during their pregnancy so I can't really comment on the effectiveness of Palmers Cocoa Butter for Stretch marks.

This product is quite a greasy product and therefore offers a deep moisturising effect so it is suited to those with particularly dry skin. For those with more greasy skin I would imagine this product would still be effective however might moisturise the skin a little too much

          ***Overall***

This is a great moisturiser which is great for dry skin and I found the effects of the product were noticeable within only a few uses as my skin felt and looked a lot smoother and softer. The moisturiser smells gorgeous as it is sweet and chocolately, but for those that intend to use this product in the morning apply sparingly if you want to wear perfume as the scent is quite overpowering.

For the money this is a very good value effective moisturiser which I will definitely continue to use and replace once the current bottle has ran out.

On the theory of stretch marks I am not a believer that this product stops you getting them even though I haven't developed any ....... Yet!! I think this is down to individuals genes and no amount of product is going to stop you from getting them.

In terms of smoothing marks I do feel that some marks I had on my skin have faded but I think this is because my skin is a lot soft after using Palmers Cocoa Butter and the same would have probably occurred if I had used another brand of moisturiser.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Those with very dry skin will appreciate this, but not for everyone.

Firstly, I would recommend all of the Palmers products, as they really are well-formulated and good value for money. This product is no exception. With vitamin E, UVB and UVA protecting ingredients, and moisturising cocoa butter, this is a great formula and a great replacement for your normal moisturiser on the parts of you which will be exposed to the sun.

HOWEVER... the texture of this product leaves a little to be desired. Perhaps I'm used to piling lots of my normal cocoa butter on because I have dry skin, but this took a lot of rubbing in to finally disappear. It left quite a greasy residue on my skin, which wasn't particularly pleasant on a sweaty, hot day, but possibly I was using too much (although you can never have too much sun protection!) I know this is because of the more opaque minerals in the sunscreen which cannot be helped much, but a thinner lotion, more like the original cocoa butter formula would be preferred, especially if your skin isn't particularly dry. The smell is also a little strange, as the other review mentioned.

However, if you have very dry skin you should love this product, and for the price it is very reasonable compared to other sunscreens.

            Advantages

Great body cream for those with pale skin/skin that burns easily

OK, so this is Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula but it has an SPF 15 UVA/UVB Protection added. (Which obviously does not make it the purest of products really) This is really handy for someone like me as I have very fair skin and if I so much as step out of the shadows when I go outside at lunchtime, I go very very red indeed.

I think it is a very good idea as I don't know about anyone else but I find it difficult when I moisturise my body to then have to put sun cream on top; the smells just don't match! (and don't even get me started on adding perfume into the mix). Anyway, I digress - The cream itself is very thick (probably wouldn't suit anyone who had really greasy skin on their body) and is almost a creamy yellow colour. The smell is really quite strong and if I am honest smells a little like shoe polish at first! This does wear off though to leave you with the scent of cocoa butter, very smooth, moisturised skin and I've found that even after 8 hours of being at work, I can still smell it on my arms when I get home. As an added extra, I haven't got burnt!

The packaging is very plain but to the point. You will have to forgive me on the price as I bought it as part of a deal in Boots but I do believe it's around the £4.00 mark for a 250ml bottle.
