Im not very lucky like most people when it comes to going on holiday and getting a great tan! Even when I plaster my sun tan lotion on I still come home looking like a lobster.
I wanted to look nice for my friends hen weekend and decided to add the extra ingredient and get some fake tan. I'd heard that Piz Buin is a good make and bought the pump action foam for easy use.
First I put some on my legs, being a first timer I thought it would be easier to cover my legs up if it goes wrong :) The pump is great as you can have as little or as much as you want when applying. I rubbed the foam in covering my legs then went to bed. When I got up in the morning my legs were fabulously brown - I was really impressed with just one application :)
There was a few disappointing this though:
- Around my knees and ankles - Im pretty sure I rubbed it in well, but there was plenty of patches around.
- When I got in the shower I could visibly see the tan washing away - This was 10 hours after application - this did make the knees and ankles look a bit better :).
- The smell isn't very nice either.
I bought this recently to prepare my pasty glowing white body for a holiday to greece.
I am fair and was praying I didnt go orange!..well the good news I didnt!yay!
The foam is really simple to apply, just make sure you rub it in circles and all over but as it takes a few secs to dry youve got time to do this so I didnt have any streaking. Its also good that it in no way greasy so you feel all dry and nice. Then I had to wait about an hour to put my clothes on and the colour came up in that hour. It looks so natural I really did look like the colour I go after 2 weeks in the sun it was fab! I would worry that some people would expect to go slightly darker as I found this desire just days later and reapplied which worked. But buy for darker skin if you want a deep tan.
One word of warning - I put this on my boyfriend (at his request!!) and the next few days when ever he wore white it turned the tshirt yelllow - he was not happy. so be careful wearing white with this one!
I always like to try different self tans and I know someone who uses Piz Buin on a regular basis and says its very good. I applied the foam straight to my skin, starting with my legs. Its really easy to use, comes out of the bottle easily and quickly absorbs into yours skin. The colour is there a little to begin but gradually comes stronger over about 1-2 hours. The colour looks very natural and there was no streaks at all.
One thing I did notice about it was the smell, its not the nicest smell and does put you off a bit at first. I can't really describe it, but its not nice. I found that the full colour was not as dark as I had liked, I had to do about 3 applications to get the full effect which did look good.
As it faded though, it faded uneven and I ended up with streaky arms and legs which wasn't good. I tried to scrub off in the shower but took me about 3-4 days of scrubbing to get it off.
As I like my tan to be quite dark I would not use this again, I would go for a tan that developed much more quickly. It would be good for people with pale skin though, but the fact that it faded uneven was really not good, and I did have to cover up for a few days. Out of all the tans I have used, its definitely not the best and you can get better for less money too.
I like to look my best when I go out, but I go to all the effort of having really nice make-up and always have my hair how I want it, but then at the last minute as I get dressed I always look down and then it always hits home, I am pure white!! What's the point in looking good when you are pure white, it can totally spoil the look.
I am not one for going on the sun beds as I don't really want to increase my risk of skin cancer, and Scotland is never sunny enough to actually get a tan! So this time I have decided to be well prepared. I have a Christmas night out this week and I want to look nice, I haven't been out in ages and feel like making a bit more effort than usual. I decided it was time to apply a fake tan. Now I know that it's a bit early to do it but, I am being safe in case it doesn't go to plan, but, there was no need to worry with this product.
*****So what is it*****
Piz Buin Self Tan Foam really is what it says on the packet. It is foam that you apply to give your self an instant tan. It comes in a 125ml pump action container that is really easy to use. It is in liquid from in the container but once it has been shaken well and then you press the pump action it then changes to foam. This foam can be used anywhere on the body, including your face.
*****Instructions of use*****
The instructions for use are really easy to understand with this product.
1. Exfoliate skin making sure to pay particular attention to the areas such as your feet, knees and elbows.
2. Make sure that all skin is completely dry before applying the foam.
3. Shake container well, then apply small amounts of foam to the desired part of your body.
4. Rub in evenly
5. Make sure to wash hands at 5 minute intervals, paying particular attention to around your nails, as this area can be easily discoloured.
6. Continue to apply to the rest of your body.
7. Allow the foam to dry before putting any clothes on, this takes around about 5-10 minutes, and do not shower for up to 1 hour after.
8. When finished wash hands thoroughly with hot soap and water.
9. Tan will appear in around about I hour.
10. After application has taken effect then you can repeat if necessary.
On the packaging for this product it states that the smell is 'a light sun kissed summer scent'. Well I wouldn't really explain it as that. Unlike other fake tans this has a slightly nicer smell, and not really noticeable that you have applied fake tan. The smell does however disappear quite a bit after you have a shower. I actually don't mind the smell.
*****The objective of the product*****
The company states that this product, which there are two kinds of one is for fairer skin, and this is the one that I used, and one for darker skin, will give you a natural looking colour. I actually agree with this and their statement is very true.
*****A little history*****
The Piz Buin brand originates back to the inspiration of a young chemistry student named Franz Greiter. While climbing Piz Buin, a mountain on the Swiss-Austrian border, in 1938, he suffered extreme sunburn, and wanted to find a way to stop this. In a small laboratory in his parents' home, he invented a product that would protect the skin against the effects of the sun. This product is what we all know and love as Piz Buin. This product name has now been in production for 80 years.
Prices do vary quite a bit for this product. I got mines from boots and I paid £8. I know that you can purchase it cheaper from stores like Semi Chem and Savers, but I was no where near them at the time, and would have just forgotten if I waited until later!
This is the first time that I have used this product and I am really quite impressed with it. I don't normally go for fake tan, but decided to give it a try and I am quite glad that I did.
I really like how easy this is to apply, and because it takes around 5 minutes to dry, which actually isn't that long, you can see where you have applied it, as it stays wet looking on your skin. The foam is not too thick either which makes it easier to apply or moves over you skin very smoothly. The pump action nozzle is really well designed as it only allows a small amount of foam escape at one time, which means that you then don't waste any. The smell is rather subtle too. I don't like to have a smell lingering around that is too strong, but this one is actually quite pleasant.
I did find that I had to apply it twice to see a result that I was happy with, but that's ok because I would rather have one that I could play around with until I achieved the desired colour rather than having one that made me look like I had been tangoed.
The colour is very natural looking too and makes the wearer look like they have just stepped off of the plane after a week's holiday in sunny Spain.
I would definitely use this product again, and I would recommend it to anyone that wants a really nice natural colouring. I would give this 9/10 just because I would like to see the bottle a little bigger. What can I say I like to get a lot for my money.
This self tan comes in a pump bottle which makes it easy to dispense as a small amount comes out at a time. The foam itself is quite thick and bubbily this make the product easy to apply, it stays wet for a while so you can see where it is and blend it in well and have an even application.
I use mid shade for fair to medium skin this gives a good colour it isn't orange niether is it very dark but if you do want a darker shade just put it on twice. I think it is better to build up the colour rather than just go for the darker one straight away.
It does take a while to dry and develop properly so do it in the morning or the day before if you want it for a night out.
I have medium skin so I don't know what it would be like if you have fair skin. My sister has tried it and it made her go slightly orange but she is very fair so I think all fake tans do this to her.
It is best to make sure your legs are smooth without dry skin and especially to moisturise your knees and elbows because it does turn these darker than the rest of you if your not careful.
It doesn't smell very nice it smells very much like vinegar it is quite strong but if you shower a few hours after applying it the smell does go.
It lasts for a long time and I doesn't was off very easily you need to use quite a strong exfoliating scrub to get it off otherwise the colour can last up to a week. One problem I have found with it is when it does start to wear off it doesn't do it evenly so you can be patchy for a while. This is why I would recommend exfoliating so you get it all off before it does this.
It doesn't dry my skin out as I have found that some other fake tans I have used in the past have done.
I found this product in Savers and it cost around £3 to £4 which I think is an excellent price for the quality of the product.
I would recommend trying this product it is easy to apply, is quite a natural colour and last for quite a while.
