The Product and Packaging
I'm not the pastiest of all people - thanks to my Mediterranean mother. I do however, like to look tanned when I dare to bare during the summer. My mother always told me that tanned skin can hide a multitude of sins. And of course I'm well aware of the risks of excessive exposure to the sun. So on a recent day of self-indulgence, I chose not to visit the solarium and instead offered for a can of Piz Buin max self-tan spray which was on special offer at my local Superdrug store.
At the time I bought it there was an ad campaign which claimed that the product dried in just ten minutes, leaving no stains on your clothes. Well I'm a sucker for advertising and, combined with the 1/3 off discounted price - how could I resist?
The 150ml bottle has a recommended retail price of £7.99. It did initially sound very dear to me but in comparison to other self tans on the same shelf, this seemed the standard price you should expect to pay. The product comes in a white bottle with the orange Piz Buin name emblazoned across the front. When purchased, the bottle is presented in a similar white and orange box. A quick word of warning here - don't throw the box away!! For some silly reason, the directions for use aren't actually provided on the bottle itself but are instead supplied in numerous languages on the inside of the box.
As with all self-tan products you're advised to prepare your skin first by cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing. Then simply spray onto your skin, remembering to apply it sparingly to dryer areas of skin. Allow to dry for 10 minutes and then dress. The product will start to develop in an hour so don't shower or wash it off during this initial period. Development then continues for a few hours afterwards.
Oh dear! I was dubious of this and rightly so it would seem. I took a very long and hot bath, shaved my legs and exfoliated. I then dried off and moisturized the skin. My preparation was impeccable. Out came the can which has spray action similar to a can of deodorant. I had anticipated a fine mist of the product but instead it came out in large droplets making an even application almost impossible.
I rubbed the product in to try and even it out and carefully washed my hands before chilling out butt naked in front of the tv. I have to say at this stage that the product felt sticky and quite uncomfortable in my skin for at least 20 minutes after application.
Having just got out of the bath, I saw no need to wash the product off (especially since this wasn't recommended in the instructions.) And so instead I got dressed and relaxed for the evening. A quick check of my legs before I went to bed revealed no significant change to the usual colour.
It wasn't until the morning after that I checked out my gorgeous tanned legs and - horror of horrors! - they were more streaky than Tesco's value bacon! I'd followed the instructions to a tee and yet the results were the stuff nightmares are made of.
I should also warn you that it takes quite a while for the results to fade away so if you do chose to use this product, you may run the risk of having to spend a summer dressed as the abominable snowman. I hope those who read this will take heed - I unfortunately didn't check out other reviews before using this and so I only have myself to blame! Steer well clear!

Summary: Think twice before buying this and stick with a gradual tanning moisturiser instead.
