I always seem to buy different sun tan lotions depending on what's on offer, so this year we tried a range of these tan and protect lotions in a variety of factors from 15-30. I got mine on BOGOF at boots and they were about £13 for both.
The bottle itself is quite appealing as it looks like an oil rather than a cream, and it's also handy to have a clear spray so you can see what's still left in the bottle. In terms of how easy it is to apply, it's fine, but once you start spraying and rubbing it, your hands get quite slippery and it becomes hard to push the button down. It's also a fairly greasy oil, I would probably describe it as a traditional oil more than a dry oil like the similar Nivea product.
It spreads very easily over the skin as it is so greasy, which is a perk, but I found it hard to know how much I'd actually put on and just adopted a 'if it looks greasy, it's fine' approach. Even though the factor thirty should be a reasonably high protection factor, I didn't consider it to be quite as strong as a traditional cream. In part this was due to it coming off in the water, when really I feel it should be a touch more water resistant. It's definitely more of a tanning and sunning yourself lotion than a protection.
In terms of whether or not I went browner than usual? Honestly I don't think so. I tan relatively easily regardless of what I use so I was expecting this to make me browner than usual but I don't think it does. It makes you glisten nicely on the beach though!
Summer is coming.. and that means only one thing.. sun sun sun (hopefully) and for me, this means only one thing. A trip to boots to buy my summer supply of Piz Buin products. Getting a good tan is important to me as i live in Scotland and the sun sadly doesn't make much of a appearance therefore I only use products that I know will give me the best tan, without having to burn first or taking a long time to develop and Piz Buin is the product i always turn to.
Piz Buin tan intensifier is the brands first sun protection lotion which combines UVA/UVB sun filter technology and Melitan which creates a darker tan in a shorter time that lasts longer but you don't have to compromise on the protection of your skin. I have also found that even though the sun can dry out your skin, this product keeps your skin moisturised for hours which prevents peeling which means a stunning tan for even longer :) This product is great as it caters to all skin types as you can go as low as SPF 6 up to SPF 30.
I have also found with a lot of other products that they may help you create the tan that you desire however when they are applied they are greasy and take a long time to soak into your skin, or they don't and just lie on your skin, which i really hate as when i am sunbathing i am already hot and feel when the product is lying on my skin, it can make lying in the sun a horrible and stressful situation as i can feel unbearably hot which in turn makes me go in the pool with defeats the purpose of the product but i am happy to say that this product is perfect. It has the perfect texture and scent and due to it being a spray, application is quick and easy. This product is also water resistant which is perfect for when you are lounging around the pool.
The only down fall for this product is the price (150ml for £17.99). However, i find that when you purchase the cheaper products the difference in the results of your tan is very noticeable, and i know i personally would rather pay a little more for a product that gave me a tan to be proud of and that i trusted to protect my skin in doing so.
Amazingly the sun is meant to shine for the next few days and I have 3 days off work so I am looking forward to relaxing and lazing around in the garden. This means I will need to wear some sun tan lotion to protect my skin so I thought I would review the sun tan lotion I have been using for the last few years.
I have quite fair skin and don't tan particularly well so I find it quite difficult to get that natural golden look. I was therefore attracted to this sun tan lotion which includes a tan intensifier to help enhance the natural tanning process
Piz Buin is a sun tan lotion brand that was developed by chemistry student Franz Greiter, after he suffered overexposure to the sun while climbing the Piz Buin alpine peak in 1938. Since then their website says that they have been providing sun lovers everywhere with suncare solutions that help them achieve the perfect balance between getting a beautiful tan and the protection they need.
The suntan lotion comes in a brown bottle with bronze shimmering writing on it, which sparkles in the sun. It has a spray top, which is protected by a plastic lid so it does not leak anywhere when it is being transported. The spray mechanism works well and it is easy to spray the product direct onto your skin. I do find however that if your hold the bottle at an angle or upside down to try and reach a difficult area such as your back the spray stops working. This can be annoying and mean that you miss bits on your body when applying the lotion unless you have someone to help you.
The lotion comes in 3 different SPFs - 6, 15, 30. I tend to use SPF 15. It contains Melitan, which helps to enhance your skins own natural tanning process and provides effective UVA/UVB sun protection. The formula is meant to intensely moisturise your skin, which helps prevent peeling and contributes to a longer lasting tan. It also states that it is non-greasy, non-sticky, sweat and water-resistant.
On applying the product it is a light white lotion, which easily spreads onto your skin and sinks in without leaving any sticky feeling. It also leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturised, I normally wait a few minutes after application before putting any clothes on by which time it has fully sunk in and does not stain at all. It has a nice fresh smell and when I use it on my face it does not irritate my eyes unlike some other sun tan lotions I have tried.
The lotion is effective at protecting my skin from the sun although I do need to remember to re-apply it quite frequently. I think this would be the same with any sun tan lotion as I am epically bad at remembering to do this when I am at home (as I wrongly never believe that the sun is strong enough here to do any damage!) However it is difficult to say if the lotion really does help speed up the tanning process or create a better tan than a product without a tan enhancer. I do end up with a nice tan if I get a chance to use it for a few days though, usually when I am abroad.
The sun tan lotion is meant to cost about £17.99 for 150ml, which is extremely expensive. However it is usually on sale for at least half price in shops such as Boots and I recently bought some for just £8 in Sainsbury's. This makes it good value for money as I find that one bottle lasts for a whole year (although that may also be a reflection on the amount of sun we get over here!)
I would recommend this suntan lotion if you can get it for a cheap price as it certainly works well to protect you skin and might actually help you tan a bit quicker. However I wouldn't suggest you buy it just on the basis of the tan enhancer if it is full price.
