I started buying this product after searching for a tan that I could use for special occasions that was temporary and easy to apply. I usually purchase this from Boots and pay about £5.99. This tan can be bought in both matte and shimmer in both light and medium tones.
Using this is very easy, it comes in a squeezy bottle with a flip cap on the bottom. The tan comes out as a kind of gel and is very dark brown, when rubbed onto the skin it lightens as it is spread out. The tan needs to be applied evenly and less liberally on places like the knees and elbows to avoid that lovely orange look! The best thng about this product is you can use as little or as much as you like to achieve however dark you want to be. This does dry very quickly which is good because it means you are less likely to get on clothes etc but also means you need to be very fast applying to make sure that no streaks dry before they've been rubbed in, however, the tan is easily washable in the shower so can be rinsed off and start again. The only negative of how easy it is to wash off is if you are caught in the rain! This hasn't happened to me yet but I've known friends have problems with the tan running off! Not a good look.
I personally like to apply this is in the morning if I am going out on the evening. I first started doing this when I realised that if I applied it an hour before I went out, when I woke the next day my skin had a lovely even tan where it had developed overnight, so now I do it in the morning to allow it to develop during the day. The way it develops does mean you need to thoroughly wash your hands after application, as otherwise you end up with orange palms!
I give this product 4 stars. Easy to apply and great results, just needs to be applied very quickly and does run off when in contact with rain, spilt drinks etc. Overall though a great buy.
This instant tan comes in a 125ml tube in Light Matte and costs roughly around the £3 mark. I purchased this for a night out as I am not a fan of developing tans as I'm just not great at applying them, they always go streaky.
The beauty of this product is that you can see exactly where you are applying it, so there is no need to worry about missing bits. It also does not streak, just keep rubbing and the streak will disappear or if it has already dried and you notice an error just wash off and start again. Just make sure after use that you wash your hands thoroughly, orange palms are not a good luck. So easy to apply and smoothed on lovely. The formulation is gel like and although it looks very dark in colour, once blended in it is very natural looking.
I am quite pale skinned and the Light Matte shade gives me a lovely natural looking glow. Not orange at all. As this is the matte colour there is no shimmer but it still gives you a little glow.
Although it claims to last 24 hours and be transfer resistant, if you get caught in the rain in your night out or a drink gets spilt down your leg it will streak as it is a wash off formula. So be warned!
I have such a pale skin and a really fair complexion. I love the sun but I have to say, it doesn't particularly like me. I am not one of those people who develop a nice even brown tan, I go red and prickly and end up with sore patches, no matter how hard I try. I really do feel the need to use a fake tan, especially now the hotter summer weather is hear, so I can wear my summer dresses and skirts. There is nothing worse than pasty looking legs.
I have to use a gradual tan which looks as 'normal' and natural as I possibly can but at the same time I can't afford to spend a fortune on expensive stuff, much as I would love to. I use bog standard Rimmel products a lot fo the time. I buy them as hey are readily available, they are cheap, and generally speaking, they do a really good job.
I have been using Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan in Light Matte for the last few summers and I usually pay about £6 for this 125ml brown plastic tube. It stands on its head and resembles a large bottle of shampoo. I buy mine from either the supermarket or Boots, wherever I happen to be at the time. One tube usually lasts me all summer as I don't need to use a lot of this product as less is certainly more.
It's very important to make sure that you are well exfoliated and moisturised before using this cream (that's a good idea with all fake tans, really). This goes on brown, so I can see exactly whereabouts I have applied it to my skin. I usually start at my feel and work my way up my body.
I don't use it ALL over, but mainly concentrate on feet, legs arms and chest. This product also states that you can use it on your face though I have not dared to use it there as yet, preferring to use my Olay Summer Sun face natural tanner, instead. It smoothes onto my skin really quite well but another good idea about moistening before applying this product is due to the fact that it always seems to dry exceptionally quickly on my skin. If I am not properly moisturised beforehand, then I have found that it won't spread on so evenly and I can be left with really nasty horrible streaks and patches. It comes in various shades from fair to dark and being pale skinned, I always opt for the lightest one available.
It washes off whenever I next have a bath or shower but I like to use it maybe if I am going out for the evening, just to make my legs look less pale and more interesting (and slimmer). It has no smell that I am able to detect, as some fake tans can have but the only downside for me is that if I don't get washed before going to bed and take a shower the following morning instead, the sheets on the bed have tell take brown stains where it's rubbed off during the night.
It's not a bad price really and as I say, it works well for me and I keep on buying it so it must have something going for it. It's not the best fake tan in the world but its better than pasty legs. !!

I have naturally pale skin and I am always being teased about using the 'snow'beds as apposed to the sun beds. Although I have managed to get a bit of colour thanks to our mini heat wave, I am not usually so lucky and so I have a lot of fake it products. One of these products is the Sun Shimmer Tan Make Up for Face & Body by Rimmel.
What does the product do?
The product promises to give both the face and body a sun kissed appearance without having to step foot in the sunshine. It claims that it will give you a natural tan or enhance a tan which you may already have. It promises to stay on the skin for up to 24 hours and it won't transfer to your clothes and furniture.
The product comes in both a shimmer or matte finish. You can buy it on either light or medium. I have purchased it in both shades in the matte finish.
How do you use the product?
Before using the product, you should make sure that you have exfoliated your skin to get rid of any flaky skin that will make your tan look patchy. I use a pair of tanning gloves because it looks awful when the palm of your hands have tan on them. You dispense the product from the body and massage it into small areas of the body at a time, ensuring that you cover all areas and that you haven't left any streaky bits. You need to take extra care around the elbows, knees and ankles. You need to work fairly quickly before the product dries. You need to remove the product using soap and water.
Packaging and Price
The product comes contained within a bronze coloured plastic bottle. It has little decoration on it other than some yellow and white writing which tells you a little bit more about the product. It has a flip top lid which is easy to open and close. The product will cost you around £6 for 125ml and it can be bought from stores such as Boots and Superdrug, large supermarkets and also from a range of online websites.
Application and Performance
The product looks incredibly dark when you dispense it from the bottle but thankfully this doesn't translate to the skin.
It has the consistency of a gel but it isn't runny so you won't get yourself in a big mess. Thankfully this product doesn't have the usual horrible aroma of tanning products probably because it's a wash off one. It does a have a scent to it but it isn't too strong and I quite like it.
When I first used this, I didn't use gloves and the palms of my hands got stained and it wasn't a good look! It took me about ten hand washes using a nail brush to make them look normal-ish again so from then on, I have always used tanning gloves. The product is easy to apply onto the skin and it glides over the skin easily. It goes a much more natural shade as you apply it to the skin and when using circular motions you do achieve an even coverage.
It is easy to spot the bits that you have missed and you can use little bits of the products to fill in the gaps. It only goes streaky if you don't blend it in quick enough before it dries and you do get better with practise. It is only looks patchy on dry skin or tricky spots like the knees. You need to get someone to check the back of your legs and you'll need someone to help you do your back. I have blemish prone skin so I haven't used this product on the face so I can't comment on its effects on this area.
The colour that it gives you is natural and it doesn't make you look like you've been tangoed at all. Even so, it does make your skin considerably darker than you naturally are but it definitely doesn't make you look silly. If you get water on yourself, it does streak and look awful but there is a waterproof one available for rainy days. If you wash your hands and drop water on yourself, it leaves a mark to so you have to be careful. It hasn't irritated my skin or caused me to experience any discomfort. It is easily removed using soap and water but it does make your bathwater look filthy!
All in all, this is a quick and easy way to get a safe and natural tan without having to expose yourself to sun damage. It is easy to apply once you get the hang of it but you should wear gloves because it will stain your palms. You need to ensure that you don't get wet because it does run however a waterproof version is available. I really like this product and I have been purchasing it for years and I will continue to do so.
I recently bought some of the Rimmel Sunshimmer Instant Tan gel, which promises 24 hours, transfer resistant colour. As I was trying to save money by not getting my occasional sunbed, I was intrigued at the instant tan and the transfer resistant, but could be washed off if needed.
It cost me £3.99 for a 125ml tube, although as I bought this from an independent chemist, it may be cheaper elsewhere. I chose the meduim shimmer, as I have slightly darker skin anyways, and hoped the shimmer would help fake a summery glow.
The packaging is simple, and the tube has a snap closure, and you squeeze the tube to get the product out. The gel itself is fairly thin, so comes out easily, and you don't need a lot to get coverage, although you can reapply if you want a darker or more shimmery effect.
When using it for the first time, I was surprised at the smell, no real 'fake tan' smell, although I did catch the occasional whiff while I had it on, but it wasn't overpowering. Coverage was also quite good, as you could see instantly where you had applied the tan. It did leave me with a glow, but I found the shimmer a bit much for daytime, would be better suited to a summer day out, or a night on the town.
However, I do like the colour, and it is transfer resistant, as I fell aslee still wearing at and no transfer onto my sheets or pillow.
I do like this product, and may buy the non-shimmery one as well as it's more suitable for daytime/work.
I've had a few disasters in my time with fake tan, and I like my fake tan to be easy - and this does what it says on the tin!! Just remember to wash your hands afterwards, as your hands will look like someone has dipped them in creosote!
This is an Instant Wash off tan from Rimmel which I purchased in Light/medium but can be purchased in darker colours dependant on your skin type. I am rather fair and didn't want to look orange so decided that the light-medium would be the best option.
I was using this for my partner's family party and wanted to make the right impression, I am a huge lover of fake tan (When done correctly) but hate how easily it can go wrong. That is what I love about this, the fact it is wash off! If I make a mistake just jump in the shower and start again -Perfect!
Fake tan can be messy and awkward but using a mitt this seemed so easy to apply and I have felt more relaxed as I knew the colour wasn't permanent. After waiting around 10 minutes for it to dry I got dressed and it was perfect. It doesn't have that horrible self-tan smell and has a lovely shimmer to make you 'glow' it lasts all night and then you just wash it off without any problems.
The colour is absolutely lovely and for the price - I paid £2.99 on sale in Superdrug you just cannot go wrong. I love that you can use this on your face as well as your body, lasts so long as well, I have had this tub for over a month now and still half a bottle left. Perfect product that I would highly recommend.
As far away from that awful 'orange' look as you can get.
I was going for a much deserved night out a few weeks ago and wanted to wear a dress that I love but when I tried it on it looked awful because my legs were so pale!!
I have used quite a few fake tans before but just wanted one that I could use quickly, cheaply and one that would wash straight off as I hadn't done it for a while and was worried about making a horrible mistake and ending up having to go out in jeans.
I picked this up from my local bargain store it cost me £2 which I thought was a brilliant price. I wouldn't be too bothered if it all went wrong as I hadn't spent a fortune on it as I have been known to do in the past.
There are a couple of colors available I went for the lighter one as my skin is very pale and I didn't want my legs to be a ridiculous dark color and the rest of my body deathly white! I also chose the matte one.
I went home, had a shower, exfoliated my legs and then got to work on applying the tan. The first thing that hit me was the smell. All fake tans have a smell and this one is no different. It isn't the worst I have smelt though but still noticeable.
I applied the tan as directed on the bottle. I tried to do it as evenly as possible which is quite difficult. I used a glove to apply it as I didn't want my hands to be all stained and I would recommend anyone using any fake tan product to do the same.
The tan went on nicely and I managed to get it quite even. The only problem areas were my knees but I think that was down to me having dry skin in this area rather than the product itself.
The tan stayed on well until I washed it off the next morning. I didn't notice any streaks or anything so I was really pleased with the product overall. If you want a quick and non permanent tan then this is definitely worth purchasing, at that price you really can't go wrong!
~*~ What is it?~*~
Rimmel sun shimmer instant tan is a self tanning lotion. It is instant tan which means the colour transfers onto your skin straight away, unlike gradual self tanners which can take hours/days. It can be used on your entire body, including your face and lasts up to 24 hours. This product washes off in the bath/shower.
The instant tan comes in a 125ml, brown, shimmery tube with a flip top lid. On the front of the tube is the products name, what it does and what shade it is. On the back of the tube is the shade selection guide, a warning ( which states that this is not a sunscreen, and that it does not protect against sunburn) and the ingredients. This instant tan comes in three different shades: fair, light and medium.
~*~ Price and availability ~*~
I purchased my tanning lotion from Superdrug for £5.99 a few weeks ago, but it is currently on offer (May 13') for £2.99 and it is on a 3 for 2 offer. You can also purchase this in Boots and some supermarkets.
~*~ Application ~*~
Befor applying any tanning products I always have a shower, shave, exfoliate and moisturise. I pay special attention to my knees and elbows, and never put on deodorant before hand.
To apply the tanning lotion you simply squeeze out the cream/gel, which is dark brown in colour, apply it to the area/areas you wish to tan (I usually use a tanning mitt, otherwise your hands turn brown) and allow some time for it to dry. It takes about 5-10 minutes to dry, during this time I usually do a weird robot dance as I think it helps it to dry ( this dance usually consist of me waving my arms and legs around, not too sure if it actually helps).
~*~ My thoughts *~*
My natural skin tone is fair to medium so I went for the fair shade, as I only wanted a subtle tan/bronze. The great thing about this tanning lotion is if you do want a darker colour you only have to wait for the tan to dry and then reapply, which builds up the colour. The consistency of the tanner is quite thick, almost like a gel and smoothes onto the skin with ease. The product blends into the skin very well, it is easy to see if you have missed any spots and if you have missed any areas it is easy to correct. This tanner did not leave my skin looking streaky or orange. However if you do come into contact with water (Great British weather) it can come off easily which does leave patches/streaks. It is extremely shimmery and makes your skin glow. I love that in photos I don't just look like I have a tan, it also makes my skin look radiant.
This product does not have the usual 'fake tan' smell, it actually smells similar to talcum powder. This smell does not last very long, especially after I have used half a bottle of Gucci Flora.
I don't tend to use this on a daily basis, I noramally save it for when I am going for a night out or on holiday. It is great if you already have a base tan and you want to just top it up. Or if you have no tan at all (like me) it makes the skin look less pastey.
The first time I ever used this tan I didn't have a tanning mitt (glove) so I used my hands, this was a massive mistake as my hands looked darker than the rest of my body. After this experience I always use a mitt and definitely recommend to anyone using an instant tan to apply the product with one. They are very cheap and well worth using.
I have found that this tan can transfer from my skin onto my bed sheets, especially if it is a hot night, but it is not a great deal of mess and washes out no problem.
~*~ Would I recommend? ~*~
I would definitely recommend this self tanning gel as it is easy to apply, leaves a even shimmery, sun kissed glow and washes off with little effort. I think this is an absolute bargain for £2.98 (compared to more expensive tanners like St Tropez) and I would still pay the full price of £5.99. The only down side is that is if it rains than the tan can become streaky, but I think this is the same for most wash off tanners. Overall I give this product 5 out of 5 Dooyoo stars.
Thanks for taking the time to read/rate my review :)
Most women I know like the sunkissed look, however its proved to be very difficult to get this right.
Shopping in Morrisons I decided to give Rimmel Sun Shimmer 24 hour Instant Tan a go. Usually I buy tan that has to develop overnight, with this it claimed to be instant. Morrisons charged me around £5 for this product which seems to be about the average in other stores too.
Overall this was a great fake tan, Easy to apply with a mitt, natural looking and you didnt need to use too much. I did have to be very careful though as this tan washes off (I made the mistake of spilling a drink on my arm - PATCHY!) So I wouldnt recommend it if it is raining outside.
The tan stays put however I did find some on my bed sheets in the morning! It washes off easily in the shower though, no problem.
I have used this tan again since but I tend to go for a tan that develops now - a much less messier option!
I decided to purchase the Rimmel Sun Shimmer 24 hour Instant tan originally when i had made last minute plans to go on a night out. I want an instant tan that would give me quick looking sunkissed bronze skin without taking hours for it to develop. I came across this in Superdrug priced at around about £5-£6.99, although i have now found this in such shops as savers and quality save (home bargains) for around £2.99.
Overall a good instant self tanner, smells lovely, reminds me of holiday sun cream, and is easy to apply, especially with a tanning mitt.
As i'm pale opted for a fair-medium shade, as i said application was easy although i would have to point out, put a fair amount on as i found, if i wanted to go over the tan to make it a bit darker, my skin became patchy and streaky, although it is easily washed off with warm soapy water.
The bonus for me is the 24 hour wear, i have returned from many nights out and in the morning it's stayed put, which is particularly benefiting if you are out dancing and get to hot and sweaty, i find 9/10 it stays put.
Overall good value for money, although i would recommend as it contains shimmer ( i love a bit of sparkle) i prefer to put it over already tanned skin, to give you that extra bit of darkened colour and for the light shimmer.
I would recommend this product but for nothing more than a quick instant tanning for those last minute nights out. Although i do think for self tanning newbies, this would be the perfect product to start off with.
I have to confess, I am a fake tan addict! I hate being pale and I'm only happy with how I look when I'm sunkissed. I think I must have spent enough money to buy a car on fake tan over the years! I have tried and tested pretty much all of the instant fake tans ever since I first started using it, which must be at least 5 years ago.
I have been using the Rimmell sun shimmer fake tan on & off for years now, however it definitely is not one of my favourites. It isn't the most natural one I've tried because it makes me look a bit sparkly! But, it does look okay and it's easy to apply & cheap, but I wouldn't use it as an everyday natural looking tan because of the sparkle-factor, which might not bother some people because its not that noticeable but I just feel like I look greasy or sweaty or glittery when I'm wearing it, which is why I use this as my clubbing fake tan.
I don't go clubbing very often anymore, I've settled down since having Kai but I do go out once every couple of weeks and I bought a bottle of this fake tan a couple of weeks ago to prepare for last weekend. I bought it from Sperdrug and paid about £6, which isn't too expensive in my opinion. The bottle it comes in is medium sized and it says how to use the tan so if you are just starting to use it then you won't get confused about how to put it on.
The tan is a dark colour with a creamy shampoo like texture, it spreads on my skin really well and doesn't go into blobs or go all gloppy and congealed. Before putting it on I make sure I exfoliate, especially on my upper arms because I get little bumps on that area sometimes and that way there's no darker areas or streaks. You can either use a mitt or your hands to put it on but I use a mitt so that it is completely even and as natural looking as possible and if you use your hands then you will end up with brown streaky hands which doesn't look great.
The tan is instant and dries quickly, it looks really nice making me look sunkissed and glowy and the overall look is quite natural, but like I said before the shimmer is a bit too much for me personally. The tan isn't waterproof, it comes off if I sweat heavily while in a hot, crowded club. It lasts for upto 24 hours but I usually wash it off when I get home, it doesn't take long to get it all off especially if I use a shower puff. It doesn't stain my shower floor or anything.
I will continue using this because its a cheap instant tan which looks quite natural and washes off easily, it dries quickly too so it doesn't make a mess like some fake tans can do.
Rimmel are a very well known company, specialising in beauty and makeup. They have made a self tan that is wash off and non streaky.
Why I wanted it....
I wanted this because everyone looks good with a tan and I wanted one. I have reservations about going on the sun bed because of the risks, and self tan seemed the better option.
The lotion comes in a plastic tube with a lid that you flip back and squeeze the tube to get the product out. It's a bronzed brown colour, that is very summery and stylish.
I love the way this smells, I don't think it has a dirty self tan smell to it.
When you have dispensed the product it's a very dark colour however when you rub it into your skin it's not as dark.
When you have this product on it does not feel clammy your skin feels moisturised and soft,
How to apply.....
Dispense some from the tube into hands and massage into skin until you have a streak free tan.
Wash your hands!!
I was putting this lotion on before I went out, I was applying it too my legs. It did not take long to absorb and dry the only downside is that I had to steer away from water as it would of ran everywhere. I noticed that the tan did not rub off on my dress, which was a bonus.
You can buy this from Superdrug, online and in most stores.
The cheapest I have seen this for is £3.00 online in SuperDrug it's £5.99.
Does not streak.
Very cheap for the amount you get.
Can use on face and body.
Does last for 24 hours.
You have to keep away from water, it will streak you bad!!!
Lovely tan, just wish it lasted a bit longer.
Would I recommend?
Trying to find the right tan has been a mission of mine for a long time. This wash off tan is great for nervous tanners because it will wash off in the shower if you apply too liberally and end up looking like an orange. It was really easy to apply and left a nice natural tan. I have had a lot of problems tanning my legs and feet it always seems to look terrible but with this becaise it can be washed off after a few goes and a baby wipe or two I had the perfect glowing pins. It's great for a night out or quick fix but I found that wearing it on an ordinary day too much hardwork. Even when wearing marigolds to do the dishes I still had splatter marks up my arms and I would be slightly worried if I got caught in the rain. I'm not sure about anyone else but I grudge paying £10 upwards for somethong that get's washed down the plughole after one use so the price of thos is perfect. Overall a great productat a great price.
I used to use this product a lot in my younger days - when I wouldn't be see dead leaving the house if I wasn't tanned and sparkly!! - but I still like to have a tube on standby in the bathroom cupboard these days for those last minute panics when I decide to go out in a skirt when it's too late to do a proper fake tan!
It is a little while since I bought my last one but I believe it's in the region of £3 and it is available in most supermarkets plus Boots, Superdrug etc. It is available in different shades and in matt or shimmer. The shimmer is only subtle, not really glittery, so it is quite nice.
This is a wash off product, rather than a proper tanning lotion which lasts a few days. It will stay on pretty well until you next shower so it doesn't tend to wipe off easily, although I would probably avoid wearing white with it and if it is very rainy you may end up with white splash marks or streaks!
It is pretty easy to apply, I don't use a tanning mit, I'm aware some people find these easier and give a more even finish but with this I think it won't make much difference as you can see exactly where you're putting it anyway. I've always found it blends in well and doesn't easily go streaky.
I used this product once when I had a last minute night out. At first it looked ok, not great but ok. But half way through the night after british whether and sweaty clubs it was not looking good at all. I had Streaky dark brown bits and white bits. Not a good look.
