Simple Sun Lip Protection Balm
Advantages: Effective, smooth, protects from sun
Disadvantages: Expensive at full price, not as natural as it markets itself
I bought this when I was looking for a lip balm to protect my lips in the sun. To be honest I'm not really big on sun protection products but my lips has recently been burnt in the sun so I knew I had to do something to prevent that happening again. I bought this from Home Bargains for 99p which really is a bargain as I've seen the sensitive version of this in Boots for £4.49!
The packaging is a regular plastic lip balm tube in a cardboard box. The front of the box and tube says that it is SPF 20. The tube of lip balm is 5 grams and it is the standard twistable lip balm tube.
There is a very light scent to this, a slight sweet smell even though this isn't a fragranced product. The smell is very subtle, Simple products don't contain perfumes. They also claim not to contain colours or 'unnecessary ingredients' although I am personally not so sure. They do market themselves as quite natural products although looking at their ingredients, I'm not too convinced. Nevertheless I find this lip balm to be effective and it does its job.
Firstly, it does glide on smoothly and have a nice texture. It's a bit slippery on the lips but I don't really mind that. It doesn't give a colour to the lips so it's suitable for both sexes. The staying power is pretty good, it doesn't wear off too quickly which is important in a sun protecting lip balm because you are counting on it to carry on working. I did reapply it a fair few times when I have used it which is easy because it's compact and pocket-sized.
It makes my lips feel soft and smooth and I think it does protect them the sun because I haven't had any burning or damage to my lips while out in the sun when I've been wearing this.
I would recommend this but I don't think I'd pay £4.49 for it, it just seems too high. I haven't tried loads of sun protection lip balms but I have tried a few, there isn't much of a difference in terms of effectiveness between this one and cheaper ones. This one is a bit nicer to use than some of them though, it has a light and pleasant scent and a smooth consistency.
I don't use this any more because I now use pure, unrefined shea butter for this purpose but as far as lip balms go this is one of the better ones. While I like this lip balm, I also like a lot of lip balms so I've knocked 2 stars off because I really don't think it's worth the full price and also I'm not so sure about the 'no unnecessary ingredients' claim.
Here are the ingredients-
