My first thought when considering buying this product was 'How much?', because it cost £28 for 90ml. Now no matter who you are that has to seem a bit pricey for a daily product. However, against my better judgement, I went ahead and bought it because I was going to work somewhere very sunny and my skin is very fair, so I needed a daily SPF. I also have sensitive skin and having used Skin Ceuticals products before I thought I would go with a name that I know suites my skin.
The packaging is just a grey tube with the Skin Ceuticals logo on the front, just like the picture. The product itself is the consistency of a lotion and is very light and easily absorbed. Whats more I didn't look all pasty and white when I had applied it, which is what usually happens with anything that has an SPF above 10 in it. I didn't use my usual moisturiser as well as this SPF as I didn't want to get shiny skin. The instructions recommend reapplying this every couple of hours like a normal sunscreen, you can't just put it on in the morning and hope that you still have sun protection in the evening. However, if you do want to do that then you can apply make-up over the top of it and on the day that I tried this it didn't have any impact on my make-up, no sliding off my face or anything.
After using this for the whole week I was away I am happy to report that I didn't get sunburnt (although I was being very careful). And I also didn't get lots of clogged pores or spots, that I usually get with sunscreen....so I am happy to report that this product works, it's a pleasure to use, it has no nasty side effects, but it is very pricey. I would be happy to buy this again, but I wouldn't use it for everyday in the U.K., I just can't afford to!
I am a big fan of skin products and I truly believe that what you put on your skin will affect how it looks and soap and water just won't do if you want good skin.
I also believe in changing my products every few weeks so my skin doesn't become used to what I am using and although I have no scientific evidence to support this it works for me.
I have a weakness for premium brands of skin care and I honestly think that the ingredients in these products are helping me to stay younger looking.
I have slight rosacia skin which leaves it sensitive to certain products and they can leave me looking red and blotchy. As anyone with rosacia knows the sun is one of the biggest culprits for triggering a rosacia flare up and the use of a sunscreen is important even in winer.
I usually wear Clinique city block but I think my skin had become used to it as the last tube I bought reacted with my skin and caused some sensitivity issues so I had to look for a new dail sunscreen. As I am going to be stuck with my face for the rest of my life I wanted a really good one that would offer me protection against uv rays but also nourish and soothe my skin. I heard about skinceuticals from a beauty therapist friends who told me it would be ideal for my skin type.
I bought the daily sun defense which has an spf of 20 as I wanted something that would last all day that I could apply under my make-up in the morning and not worry about for the rest of the day. I also didn't want anything too heavy on my face on a daily basis.
It cost me £28.50 for a 90ml tube which I know is expensive but you can't put a price on the feeling of having clear skin when you have rosacia.
It contains 5% octinoxate and 5% ransparent zinc oxide which provide braod spectrum protection and importantly these ingredients are supposed to be kinder to the skin than harsh chemicals. Now I am only going by what I was told and do not know if the science behind it is factual but for me it didn't once sensitize my skin.
The cream is quite light especially compared to my old city block which I found seemed to be getting thicker and harder to rub in. It rubs in really well and the best thing for me is that the transparent zinc oxide really is transparent and doesn't leave me looking like casper the friendly ghost like so many other sunscreens I have tried.
It is also extremely moisturising so much so that to begin with I was applying it under my usual moisturiser and it was making my skin feel a little greasy so I switched to just using this in place of moisturiser and applying it under my make-up instead for which I found it is fantastic. It acts like a base and smooths my skin so that my foundation goes on nicer and smoother.
After a few weeks of using this my skin is looking good and I haven't suffered any reaction and knock on wood my rosacea seems to be under control at the minute.
For a daily sunscreen this is expensive but you can feel and see the difference after using it for a little while so for me it is definately worth the money.
