      Soltan tan prolonger

I recently went on holiday to Arizona and I knew I would be in the hot sunshine for most of the time I was there so I needed an after sun to take with me to soothe my skin at the end of the day. I was really excited to find this tan prolonger after sun from the Boots Soltan range in store before I went and quickly snapped up a bottle. I tan fairly well even though I have quite fair skin but I find it always fades quite quickly once I am home and so I wanted to see if this would help.

Boots say, "Enriched with cocoa butter, this after sun tan prolonger from Soltan builds on your natural tan and intensively hydrates. It maintains a long-lasting beautiful tan with this rich moisturising lotion and reduces dryness and helps to prevent peeling."

The lotion comes in a blue bottle so it is a bit different than the yellow sun tan lotion Soltan bottles, probably so you can differentiate between the two. I would call the lotion more of a milk as I found it to be quite thin but then I really liked this consistency as I found it really easy to slather it all over my body after a day in the sun. I literally used it everywhere, including my face and found it was definitely light enough for use on my face as it didn't make it greasy or come out in spots.

The lotion soaked in really well and I had really soft skin after use which was lovely. It had a really nice pleasant smell to it which lasted quite a while too. I found with this lotion I had no peeling skin after being in the sun which is great as I often end up with some peeling but this lotion prevented that.

The 200ml bottle cost me £6.99 which I think was fairly good value. I used this lotion quite liberally over my body every day for two weeks and I still have a bit of lotion left so I would say it lasted well but the big question is, is my tan lasting well? Well, a week or so after holiday and I am still looking brown, the only problem is, with this British weather I am having to wear lots of layers and cover up so I'm not showing off my tan anyway, even though it is lasting!!

However, I really liked this lotion and will definitely be using it next year during the summer.

        Soltan Aftersun Tan Prolonger

Although sometimes I will but other sunscreen I nearly always use Soltan for their aftersuns as I find that they are probably the best quality ones for the money. The aloe vera one is my choice for when I am in sunnier climes and the tan prolonger is one that I pick for when I am back in the UK to keep up my tan.

The tan prolonger is basically just a moisturiser that contains a hint of fake tan in it. It also contains cocoa butter to keep skin really hydrated which is important in making sure that your tan lasts as long as possible.

I love using this for a few weeks when getting back off holiday as it smells gorgeous and really helps to keep up that holiday feeling.

It is really nice to use as it isn't too thick but it still feels like it is really moisturising my skin and hydrating it. My skin feels lovely and soft after using this and it has a lovely silky feeling to it. It also has a slight shimmering look to it and gives my skin a nice glow which also makes my tan stand out more.

The difference this makes to my tan is subtle but it does help to keep it up and also enhance it ever so slightly. I wouldn't use this as a fake tan replacement or even as a holiday skin product but I do think it is better than those other holiday skin products at enhancing a natural tan as it just brings it out slightly more without actually darkening my skin too much.

I also think that the moisturising properties of this help me to keep my tan much longer before it starts to fade away.
It doesn't absorb quite as quickly as the gel version of the aftersun and it takes a good five minutes before I am able to put clothes on but I do think it is more moisturising than the gel version. I probably wouldn't pick this over the gel though to use while abroad as although it is lovely to use it doesn't feel quite as soothing as the gel after being out in the sun all day.

I would recommend this aftersun to anyone who gets home with a tan and wants to try and maintain it longer. Not only will it enhance your natural tan and leave your skin looking a bit more golden but it will also moisturise it deeply and keep it from peeling.

        holiday essential

This is a gorgeous smelling after sun which really did help soothe my burnt back of legs last week. I was just messing around in the garden with, I was revising for my exams and so was just lying on the floor. There was a lovely breeze and so I didnt quite realise how strong the sun is. I had applied some sun cream before I went outside but it was only factor 8 and i thought that that would have been enough. So anyway, when I got into the basth later that night i felt a slight sting on the back of my thighs and after about half an hour of rummaging around trying to find some aftersun, i gave up and popped over to my friends house to borrow some. The cream really did soothe, it felt nice and cool. I applied several layers over the evening and in the morning I awoke with nothing. I didnt burn fully but there was deffinelty an improvement when I had applied cream. The soltan brand smells really good too.

          Disadvantages

An aftersun lotion with tan intensifier from Boots Soltan.

In a desperate attempt to enhance my sun tan on my recent holiday in the hope that it would last for longer when I returned, I decided to have a bit of a splurge in Boots and see what I could find. In the end I settled on one of the cheaper products from a brand that I’ve previously been really pleased with and crossed my fingers each night as I applied it…

          The Brand

Soltan is a well known brand and is actually made by Boots which means it’s only available within Boots stores. The range itself boasts the fact that it is dermatologically tested, non pore-blocking and water resistant also making it ideal for use when on the beach or near the pool. The brand started out stocking only sun protection products but has since grown in size and now offers alternative products such as sun care for the hair and also fake tan products. Products range from 99p for a mini sachet of product up to £18.99 for the more expensive products.

          The Product

This particular after sun comes in a pearly blue coloured plastic bottle with a slight shine to it and is distinguished from the other after sun products in the range by it’s dark brown lid which I assume is meant to signify the tan prolonging properties of the product. The Soltan logo is clearly visible on the front of the bottle while the back contains more detailed information on properties of the product and also the recommended application and usage.

The product itself is slightly thinner than normal after sun products in my opinion; it almost looks like it’d been water down slightly when I compared it with a Nivea after sun product. It’s white in colour and has a faint scent of summer, very similar to other sun care products. There’s also a hint of cocoa butter to the lotion as well which gives it a really pleasant smell.

The lotion contains extra cocoa butter has for centuries now been known as the ultimate moisturiser. It’s extracted from cocoa beans and is a cream coloured flat that is frequently found in moisturising products. It melts at body temperature which means that it’s easily absorbed into the skin and it helps retain any moisture in the skin giving it longevity.

          The Application

To dispense the product you simply need to flip open the lid and then squeeze the bottle slightly, do take care when squeezing as the product can come out rather quickly and it’ll end up all over your hands! To apply the product it recommends that you cover your body and face in the lotion, taking care around the sensitive eye area of course. It advertises itself as being non-greasy and this is indeed what I found. I applied the product from head to foot and found that it instantly cooled my skin and brought a little relief to it. It was really easy to apply and the lotion spread evenly without much effort. Once I’d applied it all over it took about 5 minutes for it to thoroughly soak into my skin and once this time had passed I found that my skin was left smooth and soft with no hints of greasiness whatsoever.

          The Result

I applied the tan prolonger for the full eight nights of my holiday and also the two nights when I returned in an attempt to keep my tan up. After each individual application I found that my skin was much softer and smelt lovely, it even appeared slightly shimmery in the evening lights. I applied it each evening before going out and when I returned each night (in the early hours of the morning!) the slight scent and softness was still evident.

As an after sun I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this lotion to anyone, the results were brilliant and everything I’d expect from such a product. With regard to it prolonging my tan I have to say that each morning when I woke up any signs of redness had disappeared completely and I did appear browner than the night before. Since coming home I’ve used it on two consecutive nights and when I woke up the second day of using it my mum actually commented on how my tan seemed to have gone even more golden brown than it was the day I returned.

          Conclusion

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this product to anyone and will certainly be using it again in the future. My bottle is 200ml and I found that each application took approximately a twentieth of the bottle; I’ve used it for a full ten nights and would say that I’m roughly half way through it. The bottle cost me £4.49 but Boots are currently promoting a buy one get one free offer so if you stock up now you’ll be getting an absolute bargain.

Thanks for reading and happy tanning!
