St Moriz Instant Self Tanning Mousse
Advantages: Cheap, doesn't have typical fake tan smell, mousse is easy to apply
Disadvantages: Colour wasn't noticeable even after applying a few times, stains bedsheets, not easy to find in shops
I bought this after reading a lot about it in various magazines. It was described as being equally as good as St Tropez but at a fraction of the price. I found it difficult to locate in usual stores like Boots so ended up ordering it from an ebay seller. I ordered the Dark Mousse as I prefer a slightly more intense colour. It cost £4.00 from the seller, which in my opinion is really cheap for fake tan.
The packaging is a blatant copy of St Tropez, it is in a tall white bottle with St Moriz written in black vertical capitals. Overall it looks professional, much like St Tropez and certainly doesn't look cheap in any way. The mousse is issued via a pump dispenser which is easy to use. My only issue is that you really have no idea how much is in the bottle, including when the bottle is new - because I bought this from ebay it could have only been half full for all I knew!!
I started using this a couple of weeks before my holiday to try and get a bit of colour before going. After reading the bottle I realised it was best to use it at night as it leaves a guide colour which can look quite unnatural and rub off, but once showered off after several hours the actual colour will be left behind. So I had my shower and made sure I exfoliated, particularly dryer areas like knees and elbows. I then used normal body lotion before applying the tanning mousse on top.
I always use latex gloves when using things like this, which I buy from Boots - its £10 for a pack of 100 pairs which last ages! I found that the mousse was easier to apply than cream and didn't splash around as much so didn't make any mess. It also absorbed into the skin very quickly, this is a good thing as long as you act fast in terms of rubbing it in evenly. I found that not a lot of the mousse was required for each leg/arm which means the bottle lasts well.
The mousse smells much different to other tanning creams I've tried. It had a floral fragrance which wasn't that pleasant however it did well to mask any of that typical fake tan biscuity smell! In fact I didn't once detect the usual fake tan smell, even the next day which made a brilliant change!
Once I'd finished applying the mousse I looked really dark and quite streaky - reinforcing the fact that this is ideal for applying before bed when you won't be seen in public!! So I put dark loose pyjamas on and went to bed. When I woke up the bed sheets were slightly stained however this does wash out. I also noticed the palms of my hands, which I had made sure didn't come into contact with the mousse whilst applying, were now very brown!! This was obviously due to them coming into contact with my legs etc during the night, which I guess can't be avoided.
When I showered I noticed the guide colour washing away which was a relief as it still looked streaky. However it would appear that once the guide colour had gone there wasn't any colour left! I was relieved that my skin looked even yet didn't notice much of a colour change, despite using the "dark" version. I re-applied it 3 nights in a row in the same way yet still didn't find a major difference in colour, certainly nothing that was worth the hassle of applying / changing bed sheets etc.
In the end I went back to using my gradual tanner which depite being 'gradual' gave faster results than St Moriz!
I feel I gave this product a fair chance to work and just didn't notice a big enough change. Applying was easy enough yet seemed a hassle when you're not getting anything out of it! It would be a good option for anyone wanting a very subtle colour, but for everyone else I wouldn't recommend this. It is a great price and is the best smelling tanning product I have come across, yet unfortunately just doesn't deliver.
